MK Stalin Tries To Comment On Geopolitics To Target Modi Govt, Ends Up Exposing His Ignorance

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin drew attention on social media after commenting on recent developments involving global oil supply and sanctions, but his remarks have triggered criticism from observers who say they were based on a misunderstanding of India’s energy policy.

The controversy began after the United States announced a temporary easing of sanctions to allow India to purchase Russian oil that is currently stranded at sea amid escalating tensions in the Middle East. According to a BBC report, the move came as millions of barrels of oil and gas remain stuck near the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow Gulf chokepoint through which nearly half of India’s crude oil and gas imports transit. The situation has grown tense after Iran warned that vessels attempting to pass through the area could face attacks following the conflict involving the United States and Israel.

In response to the development, Stalin posted a message on X criticising the Union government and questioning India’s strategic autonomy in foreign policy. In the post, he wrote: “When the United States decides to allow India to purchase Russian oil for just 30 days, it raises a fundamental question. Why should India need another country’s approval to secure its own energy needs? Equally troubling is the sinking of the unarmed Iranian warship IRIS Dena by the United States soon after it participated in the International Fleet Review 2026 naval exercise hosted by India in Visakhapatnam. When a ship that came to India as part of a multinational exercise meets such a fate, India cannot appear silent or passive. The Union BJP Government looks totally compromised on India’s long standing tradition of strategic autonomy and an independent foreign policy. India’s dignity in the international arena needs to be protected and the nation’s sovereignty and interests need to be defended.”

However, the premise of Stalin’s criticism is flawed because India has never actually stopped importing Russian crude oil since the Ukraine conflict began.

Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Western nations imposed sweeping sanctions on Russian energy exports. Despite these restrictions, India continued importing Russian crude throughout the sanctions period and in fact significantly increased its purchases, taking advantage of steep price discounts offered by Russian suppliers.

Before the Russia-Ukraine war, Russia accounted for less than one percent of India’s crude imports. In the months following the sanctions, Indian refiners ramped up purchases sharply, with Russia’s share of India’s oil imports rising to nearly 40% at its peak. Even during periods of sustained diplomatic pressure from the United States and Europe, India maintained substantial Russian imports while also expanding purchases from other suppliers.

In fiscal year 2024–25, Russian crude accounted for an average of about 36% of India’s total imports, with volumes rising roughly seven percent year-on-year to around 1.88 million barrels per day. Monthly figures occasionally approached the 39-40% mark, reflecting Russia’s dominant position in India’s crude supply during that period.

Data from late 2025 shows that Russia’s share of India’s crude imports fell to a 38-month low of about 24.9% in December 2025, largely due to new sanctions targeting companies such as Rosneft and Lukoil and the European Union’s ban on Russian refined products. For January 2026, India imported approximately 1.2 million barrels per day of Russian oil, keeping Moscow as its single largest supplier.

Traditional suppliers such as Iraq and Saudi Arabia have continued to occupy the second and third positions in India’s crude supply chain, though their shares declined in recent years as Indian refiners shifted toward discounted Russian crude. In January 2026, Saudi Arabia supplied about 774,000 barrels per day to India, significantly lower than Russia’s volumes.

These figures illustrate that India never halted Russian oil imports and has instead maintained a diversified sourcing strategy aimed at protecting domestic energy security while taking advantage of favourable global pricing.

As a result, Stalin’s remarks suggesting that India needed US approval to purchase Russian oil were based on an incorrect assumption about India’s actual energy trade practices.

Trees Cut, Land Dug, But No Stadium: Work Begins In Haste Before Udhayanidhi Visit To DMK Min Mano Thangaraj’s Constituency

Trees Cut, Land Dug, But No Stadium: Work Begins In Haste Before Udhayanidhi Visit To DMK Min Mano Thangaraj’s Constituency

A mini stadium project initiated in Kaladi Mammudu near Thiruvattaar village in Kanyakumari district has come under criticism after allegations that the facility, sanctioned at a cost of around ₹3 crore, has seen little progress even after nearly two years.

The project falls within the Padmanabhapuram Assembly constituency represented by Tamil Nadu Minister Mano Thangaraj. According to local residents, the mini stadium was announced as part of a development initiative by the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority, with funds reportedly allocated for the construction and basic infrastructure of the facility.

However, residents say that despite the allocation of approximately ₹3 crore for the project, only minimal preliminary work has been carried out so far. Large portions of the land remain dug up, and the site has reportedly been left incomplete for an extended period without significant construction activity.

Locals have also raised concerns that several trees that previously stood on the site, including government-owned trees, were cut down during the early stages of the project, with questions being raised about their subsequent disposal.

Recent activity at the site has reportedly increased following the scheduled visit of Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin to the area. Residents claim that some minor work has begun only in the days leading up to the visit, including the hurried laying of a running track.

According to people familiar with the project, the original tender conditions required the work to commence within 270 days. However, nearly three years after the project was first initiated, only a small structure has reportedly been built, while other basic facilities expected in a sports complex — including a proper running track and usable sporting infrastructure — remain absent.

The condition of the mini stadium has raised questions among residents about the progress of sports infrastructure projects in the region and the effectiveness of their implementation. The issue has also begun to feature in local political discussions ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, with residents expressing concerns about the pace and quality of development works in the constituency.

Auto Driver Mohammed Azimuddin Arrested For Sexually Harassing Woman Passenger In Chennai

Rapido Auto Driver Mohammed Azimuddin Arrested For Sexually Harassing Woman Passenger In Chennai

A 56-year-old auto driver has been arrested for allegedly sexually harassing a young woman passenger during a Rapido ride in Chennai.

According to police, the victim, a 24-year-old woman from Perambur, works as a collection agent at a private finance company in Kodambakkam. On the night of the incident, she had finished work and travelled by electric train from Kodambakkam to Park railway station. From there, she booked a Rapido auto to reach her home in Perambur.

During the ride, the driver reportedly drove the vehicle at high speed. When the auto was passing along Ambedkar Law College Road in Vyasarpadi, the speed increased further. As the vehicle accelerated, the woman placed her hand on the back portion of the driver’s seat to maintain balance.

Police said the driver then turned around and questioned her about touching him. When the woman denied doing so, he allegedly responded by telling her that it was fine and that she could place her hand on him. He then reportedly grabbed her hand, pulled it, and placed it on his shoulder, allegedly engaging in sexual harassment.

Startled by the act, the woman immediately pulled her hand away and shouted. Police said the driver then stopped the auto at a deserted location, threatened her, and asked her to get down from the vehicle. After she got down, the driver fled the spot in the auto.

The woman later approached the Otteri police station and filed a complaint. Based on the information provided, police registered a case and contacted Rapido to obtain details linked to the ride booking.

The driver was identified as Mohammed Azimuddin, 56, a resident of Perambur. Investigators traced his mobile phone and located him the next morning driving an auto on Natesan Street in T. Nagar. A police team rushed to the spot and arrested him.

During interrogation, Azimuddin reportedly admitted to the act. He was later produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody at Puzhal Central Prison. Police said further investigation into the case is ongoing.

How Sun News Has Been Personally Targeting Vijay

On 5 March 2026, Vijay and Trisha attended a film producer Kalpathi family wedding reception in Chennai – arriving together, posing together, and leaving together. This was their first public appearance together since Vijay’s wife Sangeetha filed a divorce petition that was reportedly leaked a few days ago, alleging he maintained an “open association” with a female actor. Though Trisha was never named in the petition, Sun News immediately connected the dots.

The social media handles of the DMK mouthpiece seemed hell-bent on portraying the actor-turned-politician negatively given his relevance in today’s political scenario.

As soon as the news of the duo arriving at the wedding reception hit the headlines, Sun News posted at least 7 posts targeting Vijay.

Here are the posts.

The first one read, “Actors Vijay – Trisha attend wedding ceremony together”

The subsequent one said, “Actors Vijay and Trisha attend wedding ceremony dressed in the same color”

The next one said, “Actor Vijay attends a public event with actress Trisha in the same car, wearing the same color outfit!”

The next one said, “Vijay’s fans themselves oppose his actions!”

The next one said, “Coming together as a couple, Vijay-Trisha congratulate couple and bless them to live happily together.”

These posts ended late night on 5 March 2026.

On 6 March 2026, in the morning, Sun News again started virtue signalling Vijay. They shared a video clipping from one of his old speeches as a TVK chief where he talked about one’s character and its importance.

In the video he had said, “There are a few very beautiful lines about character. When wealth is lost, nothing is lost. When health is lost, something is lost. When character is lost, everything is lost.”

Sun News had captioned this video, “Beautiful lines about ‘Character’..! Vijay’s advice goes viral”

It is noteworthy that a few days ago after his Thanjavur speech which referenced Vijay’s election promise made during the event, Sun News shared a post captioned, “Separate Weighers for Men and Women in Ration Shops” -Vijay’s Election Promise”

In his speech, Vijay said that if his party came to power, ration shops would appoint separate women weighers for women and separate men weighers for men, describing it as a measure aimed at ensuring dignity and comfort for women accessing the public distribution system.

However, instead of using a neutral visual such as a ration shop or public distribution outlet, the channel accompanied the post with a film still showing a traditionally dressed Brahmin woman standing at a shop counter opposite Vijay.

The use of a Brahmin woman’s image in this context appears to be a deliberate editorial choice meant to mock the promise. The image carries clear caste markers associated with Brahmin identity, including traditional attire and styling commonly used in Tamil cinema to portray Brahmin characters.

Sun News, the DMK’s mouthpiece, didn’t waste a minute. Seven posts in rapid succession. “Same colour clothes.” “Same car.” “Came as a couple.” The repetition appeared designed less to report an event than to manufacture a narrative. What someone does in their personal life is not the concern of third parties 0 a standard that seemed conveniently forgotten here. After all, where was this moral scrutiny when M. Karunanidhi was alive and openly had multiple wives?

The morning after, they twisted the knife further, posting Vijay’s own speech on “character” with a smug #FreeAdvice hashtag.

This is not journalism. This is a DMK-owned channel running a political hit job on its party’s biggest electoral threat, dressed up as breaking news.

“Rahul’s Image Damaged, Political Immaturity Exposed”, Congress Functionaries Reportedly Fuming Over DMK Alliance

congress dmk stalin rahul gandhi

Fresh signs of internal dissent have reportedly emerged within the Tamil Nadu unit of the Congress following the confirmation of the party’s alliance with the DMK ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. According to discussions within party circles, the decision has triggered dissatisfaction among a section of Congress functionaries who had favoured an electoral understanding with actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).

Sources within the party indicated that several Congress leaders aligned with the pro-TVK camp had conveyed their concerns to AICC in-charge for Tamil Nadu Girish Chodankar, stating that the development had negatively impacted the political image of Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi.

Senior Congress leaders were reported as saying that a section of the Tamil Nadu Congress leadership had preferred an alliance with TVK, which had indicated that it would offer Congress a share in governance if the parties contested together.

According to the accounts shared within party circles, Rahul Gandhi, Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, and Tamil Nadu in-charge Girish Chodankar were initially open to the idea of an alliance with Vijay’s party.

However, the proposal reportedly faced resistance from another section of the Congress leadership. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K. Selvaperunthagai, and former Union minister P. Chidambaram were said to have favoured continuing the alliance with the DMK.

Party insiders indicated that this group actively worked to prevent a tie-up between the Congress and TVK and ultimately succeeded in ensuring that the Congress remained in the DMK-led alliance.

Following the development, Congress functionary Mylai Ashok reportedly organised the distribution of sweets at the party’s state headquarters, Sathyamurthy Bhavan in Chennai, to mark the continuation of the DMK–Congress alliance.

At the same time, another faction within the party expressed dissatisfaction with the decision by putting up posters opposing the alliance with the DMK.

Amid this backdrop, Congress functionaries believed to be supportive of a TVK alliance met Girish Chodankar at a hotel on Radhakrishnan Salai in Chennai. During the interaction, they reportedly conveyed that Rahul Gandhi’s decision to initiate discussions on a potential alliance with TVK but withdraw at the final stage reflected a lack of political maturity.

They also stated that the episode had resulted only in damage to Rahul Gandhi’s public image.

Responding to the concerns, Chodankar reportedly acknowledged that he too was not entirely satisfied with the seat-sharing arrangement reached with the DMK. However, he is said to have advised party members that the situation must be handled calmly and that the decision should be accepted in the larger interest of the party.

“A Deity Cannot Be Left Remediless Because It Does Not Vote”, Madras High Court Slams HR&CE Over 507 Acres Of Karur Temple Land Encroachment

Madras High Court Slams HRCE For Failing To Clear Encroachments From Vennimalai Murugan Temple Lands

The Madras High Court has strongly criticised authorities for failing to recover 507 acres of temple land belonging to Arulmighu Balasubramaniyaswami Temple in Vennaimalai, Manmangalam Taluk, Karur District, observing that temple properties are sacred endowments and cannot be treated as commercial assets of the State.

The remarks were made while the Court was hearing a contempt petition concerning the implementation of its earlier directions ordering authorities to recover temple lands recorded in the name of the temple. The Court noted that despite the passage of several years and repeated monitoring, the directions had been only partially complied with.

The Bench comprising Justice P. Velmurugan and Justice B. Pugalendhi recorded that the total extent of temple land under encroachment is 507.88 acres, out of which only 93.64 acres have been recovered so far.

During the hearing, the Court also took note of the organised resistance faced by officials even while carrying out basic administrative actions. According to submissions placed before the Court, authorities had to deploy three Deputy Superintendents of Police, five Inspectors of Police, and 132 police personnel merely to install a flex board declaring the temple’s ownership over the land, highlighting the level of opposition from encroachers.

Observing that the matter had been under continuous judicial scrutiny for over two years, the Bench stated: “This Court has monitored this matter for over two years. Numerous orders were passed in this contempt application. Personal appearances were secured. Protection was ordered. Yet compliance remains partial. The poor deity has no voting right. On the other hand, the mighty encroachers have valuable votes. In a democratic polity, electoral arithmetic sometimes appears to influence administrative resolve. But constitutional governance is not subordinate to electoral expediency. A deity, recognised as a juristic person in law, cannot be left remediless because it does not participate in elections. The deity may not vote, but the Constitution speaks. The Court is exercising its parens patriae jurisdiction. But, when judicial orders are stalled by organised resistance, then the rule of law itself stands tested”.

The Court also examined policy notes of the Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department, which showed a steady decline in the extent of temple lands across the State.

According to official records cited before the Court, temple lands had reduced from 5.25 lakh acres in 1986-87 to 4.90 lakh acres in 2000-01, further declining to 4.79 lakh acres in 2002-03, and 4.78 lakh acres in 2008–09.

Expressing concern over this trend, the Bench observed, “…Temple lands are not commercial assets of the State. They are sacred endowments made by generations of devotees with a definite object to sustain religious worship and charitable services. If endowed properties diminish year after year, it is not a mere clerical anomaly, but reflects systemic erosion”.

The Court emphasised that temple lands had been dedicated by generations of devotees specifically to sustain religious worship and charitable services and therefore could not be treated as ordinary government property or as revenue-generating assets.

During the proceedings, the Court was also informed that certain organisations had mobilised protests against the implementation of the Court’s orders. Among them was a group styled as the “Inam Land Farmers Lessees and House Site Owners Protection Movement.”

The Bench observed that while any party is free to challenge judicial orders through lawful remedies, organised obstruction or extra-legal methods cannot be used to nullify court directions. It also expressed concern that some protestors involved in the agitation included legal professionals and elected representatives.

The Court further noted that among the 230 identified encroachers, 27 are government officers, 49 are industrialists, and 38 are persons wielding considerable influence. The Bench remarked that such a composition raised the disturbing possibility that the presence of powerful individuals among the encroachers may be contributing to the reluctance of authorities to enforce eviction orders.

Addressing the delays in related civil litigation, the Court stated: “Considering the manner in which the issue is being handled by the stakeholders, this Court, while is conscious that civil Courts must adjudicate upon pleadings and evidence in accordance with law, holds that such adjudicatory process cannot translate into indefinite pendency, especially in matters involving public religious endowments and longstanding encroachments. The cumulative circumstances indicate a pattern of delay that has effectively frustrated the timely enforcement of the directions issued by this Court. Therefore, this Court is constrained to reiterate and reinforce its earlier directions to ensure expeditious disposal of the pending civil suits”, as reported in Verdictum.

The Bench also recorded that 13 encroachers had filed review applications in 2023, but these petitions were not actively pursued. The review petitions were eventually dismissed on 24 January 2025, and subsequent challenges filed before the Supreme Court were dismissed through a common order dated 3 November 2025.

Despite the absence of any legal impediment following the dismissal of these challenges, the Court observed that officials of the HR&CE Department had still not implemented the earlier directions issued for the recovery of the temple lands.

The contempt proceedings arose in the case A. Radhakrishnan v. P. Madhusudhan Reddy, IAS & Others. A Radhakrishnan appeared in person for the petitioner, while NR Elango and AK Sriram, Senior Counsels, appeared for the respondents.

The NewsClick Files: China Funding, UAPA Arrests, And A ₹184 Crore ED Penalty

newsclick china

On 17 February 2026, the Enforcement Directorate imposed a ₹184 crore FEMA penalty on NewsClick and its founder Prabir Purkayastha, ₹120 crore on the company and ₹64 crore personally, over alleged violations linked to foreign investment and remittances. The portal has faced ED and Delhi Police investigations, including a 2023 UAPA case, over irregular foreign funding, with agencies claiming the funds were used to promote narratives against India’s security interests. The matter remains under legal scrutiny.

NewsClick and its founder have been under sustained investigation since 2020 over alleged violations of FEMA, FDI norms, and UAPA provisions. Chargesheets and enforcement actions have alleged irregular foreign funding including China-linked inflows, with claims that portions were routed toward protest-related activities connected to the 2020 Delhi riots. An April 2024 chargesheet alleged links between Purkayastha and banned outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba – claims subject to judicial determination.

About NewsClick

NewsClick is a New Delhi-based digital news portal founded in 2009 by Prabir Purkayastha, an engineer-turned-activist born in 1949 who studied at universities in Calcutta, Allahabad, and JNU. The owning entity is PPK NewsClick Studio Private Limited, with Purkayastha and Subodh Varma listed as directors. It operates as a multilingual platform in English, Hindi, and Marathi and is affiliated with DIGIPUB, a coalition of digital news organisations. Investigative agencies have accused the organisation of receiving foreign funds in violation of Indian law, publishing anti-India content, and targeting government institutions, security agencies, and national policies through narratives aligned with foreign interests.

#1 26 August 2020 – First FIR: EOW Registers Foreign Funding Case

The Economic Offences Wing of Delhi Police registered an FIR against PPK NewsClick Studio Pvt. Ltd. on 26 August 2020, under IPC Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating), and 120B (criminal conspiracy), accusing the company of violating FDI norms and causing losses to the government exchequer.

The Enforcement Directorate simultaneously raided NewsClick’s offices and directors’ residences over alleged foreign remittances totalling ₹30.51 crore including ₹9.59 crore shown as FDI from U.S.-based Worldwide Media Holdings LLC in 2018 and ₹20.92 crore recorded as payments for “export of services.” Entities under scrutiny included Justice & Education Fund Inc (₹19.76 crore – the largest tranche), Tricontinental Ltd Inc, G Span LLC (USA), and Centro Popular Demidas of Brazil.

#2 July 2021 – Delhi High Court Grants Purkayastha Interim Arrest Protection

The Delhi High Court granted interim protection from arrest to Prabir Purkayastha in July 2021 in connection with the foreign funding case arising from the August 2020 FIR filed by Delhi Police’s Economic Offences Wing. The protection was granted while Purkayastha’s legal challenge to the FIR remained pending before the court. NewsClick simultaneously filed a petition seeking quashing of the EOW FIR, contending that the entire case was malafide and that the allegations of FDI and foreign exchange violations were legally unsustainable. The case continued to be litigated even as agency investigations continued to expand in scope and seriousness over the following years.

#3 5 August 2023 – NYT Report Links NewsClick to Neville Roy Singham’s China-Backed Network

An investigative report by The New York Times published on August 5, 2023 revealed that NewsClick had received funding from the network of U.S.-based businessman Neville Roy Singham to promote Chinese government narratives in India. The report stated: “In New Delhi, corporate filings show, Mr. Singham’s network financed a news site, NewsClick, that sprinkled its coverage with Chinese government talking points.” Among the narratives cited was the claim that “China’s history continues to inspire the working classes.” The NYT report triggered immediate political and institutional scrutiny in India, with the findings subsequently cited in parliamentary discussions and used by Delhi Police to justify further investigative action against the organisation and its associates.

#4 3 October 2023 – UAPA Arrests: Purkayastha and Chakravarty Held in 100-Location Raid

Delhi Police’s Special Cell executed coordinated raids at nearly 100 locations across Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, and other cities on 3 October 2023, targeting NewsClick’s office and the residences of over 70 journalists, ex-employees, contributors, and consultants. Founder Prabir Purkayastha and HR head Amit Chakravarty were arrested under UAPA Sections 13, 16, 17, 18, 20, 38, 39, and 40 along with IPC Sections 153A and 120B. The FIR alleged China-routed funds via shell companies funded the 2020 Delhi riots, farmers’ protests, legal aid to Chinese firms including Vivo, and disinformation campaigns on COVID-19 and elections. Devices including phones and laptops were seized. Among locations raided was the residence of comedian Sanjay Rajoura – a past NewsClick contributor who had faced a police complaint in 2020 for mocking Hindu deities.

#5 30 April 2024 – Chargesheet Alleges Purkayastha’s Links with Lashkar-e-Taiba

Delhi Police’s Special Cell filed a chargesheet on April 30, 2024 alleging that NewsClick founder Prabir Purkayastha had active associations with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) – a Pakistan-based terrorist organisation banned under Indian law. The chargesheet stated that Purkayastha had provided financial assistance to LeT operatives. It further alleged that Purkayastha led a coordinated disinformation campaign under the pretext of organising protests against the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), using NewsClick’s editorial platform as a vehicle. The charges are presently subject to judicial examination. Purkayastha has contested all allegations against him. These remain among the most serious accusations in the case pending before the courts.

#6 22 May 2024 – Chargesheet Alleges China-Backed Funds Routed to Delhi Riots Accused

Delhi Police’s May 2024 chargesheet alleged direct financial and editorial links between NewsClick and individuals accused in the 2020 Delhi riots. It claimed ₹36 lakh was routed to Sharjeel Imam, who faces sedition charges, for riot incitement, along with payments to SFI activists for CAA protest activities. The chargesheet cited witness statements alleging that NewsClick employee Anand Mangnale transferred funds to Imam and other riot-linked figures. Investigators characterised NewsClick’s editorial coverage of Shaheen Bagh, the riots, and anti-CAA protests as consistently aligning with individuals accused in riot conspiracy cases. Alleged links between Mangnale and George Soros-connected networks via Congress were also cited in the chargesheet.

#7 May 2024 – Supreme Court Invalidates Arrests on Procedural Grounds

The Supreme Court of India in May 2024 invalidated the October 2023 arrests of Prabir Purkayastha and Amit Chakravarty, ruling that Delhi Police had failed to furnish copies of the FIR and written grounds of arrest to the accused’s lawyers within the mandatory 24-hour period – a procedural requirement under the UAPA framework. The court’s ruling was on the narrow ground of procedural non-compliance and did not constitute a finding on the substantive allegations in the chargesheet. Purkayastha was subsequently released. The Supreme Court’s order was widely celebrated by left-liberal media as a vindication of NewsClick, though the criminal and enforcement cases against the organisation and its founder continue before the appropriate courts.

#8 17 February 2026 – ED Imposes ₹184 Crore FEMA Penalty

The Enforcement Directorate on 17 February 2026 imposed a total penalty of ₹184 crore on NewsClick and its founder-editor Prabir Purkayastha for violations of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). Of the total, ₹120 crore has been levied on PPK NewsClick Studio Private Limited, the company that owns and operates the portal, while ₹64 crore has been imposed personally on Purkayastha. The penalty order followed enforcement findings that the portal and its editor contravened foreign exchange rules governing foreign investment and remittances. This is among the most significant FEMA penalty orders passed against a media organisation in India. NewsClick and Purkayastha are expected to contest the penalty order before the appropriate tribunal.
