“Sanatanam Is The Peel, God Is The Fruit, Discard Sanatanam To Reach God”, Says DMK Min For HR&CE Sekar Babu

A metaphor used by Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister P. K. Sekar Babu during a legislative discussion has sparked sharp reactions from the opposition in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.

Speaking during the Finance Committee meeting on budget allocations for the Department of Social Welfare and Differently Abled Persons, Sekar Babu likened Sanatana Dharma to the peel of a banana.

“The peel is Sanatanam; the fruit inside is the Lord,” he said. “Just as we discard the peel to eat the fruit, one must go beyond Sanatanam to truly realize God.”

His analogy immediately drew criticism from AIADMK MLA K.P. Munusamy, who dismissed the minister’s parable as flawed.

“There is a vast difference between Sanatanam and a banana peel,” Munusamy countered. “If Sanatana and God are truly one and the same, there would be no need for such heated debates or legal battles.”

The debate grew more animated when DMK MLA Musiri Thiyagarajan added a political dimension to the discussion, referencing past controversies, “Udhayanidi is the 10-headed Ravana who came to destroy Sanatanam,” he said, alluding to the ‘eradicate Sanatana Dharma’ remarks made by the DMK scion in September 2023 which drew huge backlash from across the country.

“They Threatened To Kill Us”: 73-Year-Old Chennai Man Alleges DMK MLA’s Goons Attacked Him In Land Grab

In a disturbing turn of events, Baladurai (73), a resident of Chennai, has alleged that a group of men claiming to be supporters of DMK MLA Prabhakar Raja threatened to kill him over a land dispute in Vadapalani.

According to a complaint filed by Baladurai, he had taken a piece of land on lease in Vadapalani. A group of around 30 individuals, allegedly associated with the ruling DMK party, arrived at the location with a JCB machine. The group reportedly demolished the perimeter wall and shutter of the leased property.

A video recorded by Baladurai’s son captures the aftermath of the incident. In the footage, the son claims that the men not only caused destruction but also issued death threats. They threatened to kill us, saying they belong to the ruling party, he said.

The family is demanding immediate action against the attackers and protection from further intimidation. Baladurai has appealed to the authorities to take cognizance of the involvement of political supporters in land grabbing and intimidation tactics.

Despite the seriousness of the allegations, there has been no official response yet from MLA Prabhakar Raja or the DMK.

Namakkal Entrepreneurs Suffer Losses Running Mudhalvar Marundhagams, Authorities Refuse To Accept Petitions

Entrepreneurs operating Chief Minister’s Dispensaries/Mudhalvar Marundhagam in Namakkal district have raised serious concerns over financial losses and alleged official apathy. Several of them have claimed that despite struggling to keep the dispensaries running, local authorities refused to accept their petitions seeking relief.

Chief Minister’s Dispensaries/Mudhalvar Marundhagam—meant to provide affordable medicines to the public—were launched in Namakkal district on 24 February 2025. A total of 27 such dispensaries were opened and operated by local entrepreneurs and cooperative societies.

It is noteworthy that these dispensaries are modelled exactly after the Pradhan Mantri Janaushadi Programme also referred to as Makkal Marundhagam in TN.

However, less than two months since their inauguration, some entrepreneurs say the model is unsustainable without government support. On 15 April 2025, a group approached the Deputy Registrar of the Agricultural Cooperative Sales Society to hand over control of the pharmacies, citing severe financial strain.

We’ve been selling medicines for just ₹15,000 in the past two months, but our monthly expenses are around ₹25,000,said one of the affected entrepreneurs. We have to cover rent, electricity, internet, and the pharmacist’s salary. It’s simply not viable.”

The entrepreneurs said they were turned away when they tried to submit a petition outlining their grievances and requesting that the dispensaries be taken over by the government.

“From the date of the inauguration till today, sales have been consistently low. I can’t pay rent, utility bills, or salaries. We’re drowning in losses, said another operator.

They urged the government to intervene and provide financial assistance, warning that the dispensaries cannot continue to operate under the current conditions.

Taliban-Style Justice In Davangere: Muslim Woman Brutally Assaulted By Mob Outside Mosque Over Family Row, Six Held

A 38-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted by a group of men outside a mosque in Karnataka’s Davanagere district after being summoned there over a domestic dispute. The incident, which took place on 9 April 2025 in Tavarekere village of Channagiri taluk, was caught on video and sparked outrage after the footage circulated on social media platforms.

The victim, Shabina Banu, who works as a house help, filed a police complaint on 11 April 2025, following which six individuals were arrested. The accused, identified as Mohammad Niyaz (32), Mohammad Gauspeer (45), Chand Basha (35), Dastagir (24), Rasool T. R. (42), and Inayat Ullah (51), were named in the First Information Report (FIR). According to police, a special investigation team (SIT) was formed and quickly traced and apprehended the suspects.

What Happened?

In her complaint, Shabina stated that on 7 April 2025, her relative Nasreen (32) visited her home. Along with Nasreen and another man, Fayaz, the group went to a nearby hill in Bukkambudi and returned the same evening. Shabina, following medical advice, took her medication and rested. Nasreen, who initially said she would leave, stayed at the house. Fayaz also visited during this period.

Later, Shabina’s husband, Jameel Ahmed Shameer, returned home and reportedly grew enraged upon finding Nasreen and Fayaz at the residence. He then approached the local Jama Masjid in Tavarekere and filed a complaint.

Two days later, on 9 April 2025, Shabina, Nasreen, and Fayaz were summoned to the mosque. When they arrived, a group of men allegedly gathered and began verbally abusing Shabina. According to the FIR, the accused used obscene language, threatened her and her children, and then proceeded to brutally assault her using sticks, clubs, pipes, and even attempted to hit her with stones. Shabina’s children were also allegedly slapped and kicked during the assault.

The woman described the incident as an attempt to intimidate and physically harm her, stating that she was left humiliated, injured, and mentally disturbed.

Theft Allegations

Shabina further alleged that after the assault, Nasreen and another woman named Parveen entered her home and stole several items, including a television, mobile phone, charger, and household goods. In her detailed complaint, she described seeing a crowd gathered near the mosque on the day of the assault and recounted that her husband claimed to be heading to the area shortly before the attack.

Police Action And Charges

Based on her complaint, police registered a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges related to criminal conspiracy, assault, intimidation, and attempted murder. The SIT, formed soon after the incident gained public attention, arrested all six named accused.

Davanagere Superintendent of Police has confirmed that a thorough investigation is ongoing, and more arrests could follow depending on further evidence.

This incident has raised renewed concerns over the use of religious spaces for extra-judicial resolutions of personal or domestic matters. Legal experts and women’s rights activists have voiced concerns about vigilante justice and the potential misuse of religious influence to settle personal disputes outside the purview of law.

The case also draws parallels to earlier incidents, such as the 2023 Chopra flogging case in West Bengal, where a woman was publicly beaten in a mosque-led assembly over alleged extramarital relations. That incident, too, was captured on video and had drawn nationwide condemnation.

Critics have pointed to the growing trend of parallel justice systems functioning outside the constitutional framework, including informal Sharia courts, mosque-led arbitration, and public boycotts. They argue that such parallel systems often undermine the rule of law and disproportionately affect vulnerable members within the community, particularly women.

In 2018 and 2023, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) reiterated its intention to expand Darul Qaza (Sharia courts) across districts with significant Muslim populations. While these courts do not hold constitutional or legal authority, their informal influence continues in many regions.

Dravidian Model Is So Bad That Even Sun News Is Not Sparing DMK Govt’s Failures

In what can be seen as a surprise, Sun News, a channel known for its proximity to the ruling DMK government – more so as its mouthpiece has posted news critical of the condition of a key road in North Chennai.

The report focused on the Royapuram–Kasimedu Junction Road, which remains dug up and unrepaired for over two months. The road was excavated for an underpass project, but work has stalled, and no restoration has taken place since. The post on its X handle described the site as resembling a “death pit” and carried a caption reading: “Is it the road? A pit of death? The people of North Chennai are suffering.”

The image in this post read, “North Chennai: Royapuram – Kasimedu Junction Road. People are angry that it looks like a death pit as it was dug 2 months ago for the underpass, but it has not been repaired yet. The people of North Chennai urged to repair the road as soon as possible as it is the main route through which thousands of people and students travel every day. People are worried because the dug-up road was newly laid a few months ago”

According to the channel, the damaged stretch was newly laid just a few months ago, raising questions among residents about planning and resource management. Locals expressed frustration that the road, a major route used daily by thousands of commuters and students, has become hazardous and impassable in places.

The report quoted residents urging immediate action, citing the high volume of traffic and the potential risk of accidents.

This coverage marks a rare instance of visible criticism from within the media traditionally aligned with the government which begs the question – is the Dravidian Model so bad that even the DMK’s mouthpiece, Sun News, has come to a point criticizing it?

ilaiyaraaja good bad ugly

Legendary music composer Ilaiyaraaja has sent a legal notice to the makers of actor Ajith Kumar’s latest film Good Bad Ugly (popularly referred to as GBU), seeking ₹5 crore in damages for the alleged unauthorized use of three of his classic songs.

Directed by Adhik Ravichandran, Good Bad Ugly has generated significant buzz both at the box office and online, with fans and critics actively discussing its performance. However, controversy erupted when it was discovered that the film includes three vintage Ilaiyaraaja compositions — Otha Roopaiyum Tharen, En Jodi Manja Kuruvi, and Ilamai Idho Idho — without prior permission.

In his legal notice sent to the film’s production company, Mythri Movie Makers, Ilaiyaraaja has demanded a compensation of ₹5 crore for the unauthorized use of his work. He has also called for the immediate removal of the songs from the film.

The notice further states that the filmmakers must issue an unconditional public apology within seven days, failing which further legal action may be taken.

Gujarat ATS & Indian Coast Guard Seize ₹1,800 Cr Meth From Pakistan Headed To Tamil Nadu; Annamalai Blasts DMK Over Surging Drug Crisis

Former Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai has launched a scathing attack on the DMK-led state government, accusing it of turning a blind eye to what he calls an escalating drug crisis within the state. He alleged that Tamil Nadu is increasingly becoming a hotspot for narcotics trafficking, despite repeated warnings and seizures linked to drug smuggling operations.

Taking to his official X account, Annamalai highlighted recent incidents involving significant drug hauls in Gujarat. He pointed out that the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad and the Indian Coast Guard recently intercepted over 311 kg of methamphetamine on 15 April 2025. The consignment, valued at ₹1,800 crore, was reportedly shipped from Pakistan’s Pasni port by a drug syndicate led by an individual named Fida, with Tamil Nadu cited as the intended destination after a mid-sea transfer.

He also recalled a similar incident in February of the last year, when the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) confiscated drugs worth ₹1,200 crore off Gujarat’s coast, allegedly bound for Tamil Nadu via a vessel from the state.

Annamalai criticized the ruling DMK for a history of inaction and alleged connections with criminal elements, even referencing the party’s alleged past sheltering of an international drug kingpin. He questioned the state government’s commitment to combating the narcotics menace and urged urgent intervention before the situation worsens.

Expressing his views on X, K. Annamalai stated, “Tamil Nadu has become a haven for drugs – a crisis unfolding under the very nose of the DMK state govt, which continues to live in wilful denial. In February last year, the NCB nabbed ₹1200 Crore worth of drugs off the coast of Gujarat, which was to be picked up by a vessel from Tamil Nadu. Yesterday, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad and the Indian Coast Guard seized over 311 kg of methamphetamine worth ₹1800 Crore that was en route from Pakistan to Tamil Nadu. This large consignment was sent from Pakistan’s Pasni port by a Pakistan-based drugs mafia named Fida, moved to another boat mid-sea, and then transported to Tamil Nadu. What can we expect from DMK, a party that harbored an International Drug lord for years?”

Details of the Seizure: Massive Meth Consignment Bound for Tamil Nadu

The seizure Annamalai referenced was part of a major anti-narcotics operation conducted by the Gujarat ATS and the ICG on the night between 12 and 13 April 2025. Officials confirmed on 14th April that the confiscated substance was methamphetamine—commonly referred to as crystal meth or ‘ice’. The illicit shipment was intended to reach Tamil Nadu, ATS officials revealed.

The drugs, contained in 311 sealed, blue barrels designed to be waterproof and buoyant, were retrieved from the sea approximately 2 nautical miles inside Indian waters. According to authorities, the smugglers abandoned the consignment upon spotting an approaching ICG vessel and escaped by crossing over into Pakistan’s maritime boundary, avoiding capture.

DIG Sunil Joshi of Gujarat ATS stated during a press briefing that the operation was triggered by intelligence gathered by Inspector J.M. Patel, who received credible input about a mid-sea transfer of nearly 400 kg of narcotics. This information was swiftly shared with the Indian Coast Guard, enabling the interception attempt.

The intended recipient vessel was reportedly dispatched from Tamil Nadu, affirming the state’s role as the planned endpoint for the contraband. According to DIG Joshi, the drugs were sent by a Pakistan-based trafficker known by the call sign ‘Fidaa’, previously implicated in hashish smuggling into India.

Director General of Police Vikas Sahay also confirmed the operation in a post on X, stating that the ATS had credible intelligence about the smuggling attempt and worked in coordination with the Coast Guard to intercept the shipment. He noted that while the smugglers managed to escape, the narcotics were recovered and a formal investigation has been initiated.

A statement released by the Indian Coast Guard corroborated this account, adding that one of its ships—already on a multi-mission patrol—was redirected to intercept the suspected boat near the Indian Maritime Boundary Line. Upon spotting the Coast Guard vessel, the traffickers dumped the drugs and made their escape.

The consignment was later recovered and transported to Porbandar before being sent to Ahmedabad for further analysis and legal action.

Gujarat ATS: Combating Maritime Drug Smuggling

The Gujarat ATS has been consistently active in disrupting drug networks operating via maritime routes. In the past, the agency has tackled 20 such cases involving over 5,454 kg of narcotics, collectively valued at around ₹10,277 crore. So far, 163 individuals have been arrested in connection with these cases, including 77 Pakistani nationals, 34 Iranians, 4 Afghans, 2 Nigerians, and 46 Indian citizens.

‘Land Has Been Waqf Since 1954’ – Mutawalli Defends Notice To Vellore Villagers Amid Protests, Says Villagers Have To Pay Land Rent

Tensions flared in Kattukollai village of Tamil Nadu’s Vellore district after nearly 150 families received notices declaring their land as Waqf property, triggering protests and appeals to district authorities.

The notices were issued by the Kilandai Masjid and the Hazarath Syed Ali Sultan Sha Dargah in Virinchipuram, located about four kilometres from the village. The villagers, many of whom say they have lived on the land for four generations, state they have proper registration documents and tax receipts, and have submitted a petition to Vellore District Collector V R Subbulaxmi seeking intervention.

The Hindu Munnani, a Hindu nationalist organisation, has mobilised support for the villagers and joined them in filing the petition. Speaking to ANI, Hindu Munnani’s Vellore District functionary Praveen Kumar said, “People have paid taxes and electricity bills for decades. One resident’s attempt to get a Patta (land ownership document) was reportedly blocked by the Jamaat.”

Villagers have also alleged that electricity supply to some homes has been cut off following the issuance of the notices. “We met the Collector last Thursday, and she assured us that the land belongs to the government and not the Waqf,” Kumar added.

However, Syed Sadam, the Mutawalli (custodian) of the Dargah, maintained that the land has been recorded as Waqf property since 1954 in official gazette records. “I have given a notice to the villagers who are residing there. I have all the records that belong to our Waqf. It shows that from 1954, the mentioned property belongs to our Waqf. The villagers also know that the land belongs to the Masjid property. We spoke with them. They just have to pay the land rent to us and not the building rent or any other tax…I have given a notice to them to pay the land rent to us. I have planned to submit all these records to the government as well as to our Waqf so that they can take action accordingly…,” Sadam said, adding that the villagers are being asked to pay land rent, not building rent, to the Waqf board.

He further alleged inaction by authorities, claiming that his father had submitted petitions to the government as early as 1991 to prevent illegal land registrations, but no substantial action was taken.

The District Collector has acknowledged receipt of the villagers’ petition and confirmed that an inquiry is underway to verify the ownership status of the land. The situation continues to develop as both sides prepare to present their documentation to the authorities.

Tamil Manila Muslim League Backs Modi Govt’s Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025, Calls For Swift Implementation In Tamil Nadu

The Tamil Manila Muslim League (TMML), led by its Founder President S. Sheikh Dawood has expressed strong support for the President of India’s recent approval of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025. Hailed as a pivotal reform, the new legislation is seen as a crucial step toward greater transparency and improved governance of Waqf assets across the country. TMML calls on both the Central and State governments to immediately implement the amended Waqf Act, especially in areas where properties have suffered from mismanagement, encroachments, and unresolved legal issues.

To complement this legislative milestone, TMML has launched a state-wide initiative in Tamil Nadu called “Waqf for the Ummah.” This campaign aims to educate communities, monitor the digitization of Waqf properties, and ensure that the revenue generated is directed towards the upliftment of society. The movement will also keep a close eye on how effectively the law is enforced on the ground.

In Tamil Nadu, numerous valuable Waqf lands are currently under dispute. Many have reportedly been sold illegally to private developers or are under unauthorized occupation. A lack of updated surveys, political interference, delayed court action, and weak enforcement mechanisms have all contributed to the poor state of Waqf property management in the state.

While certain opposition-led states may voice dissent against centrally passed laws as part of political posturing, they cannot obstruct their implementation. Such opposition is often more symbolic than legally binding. TMML emphasizes that parliamentary legislation must be enforced across all states, regardless of political differences.

TMML’s Appeal To Central And State Authorities

TMML urges both Central and State governments to initiate a comprehensive and digitized survey of all Waqf lands in Tamil Nadu. It is essential to protect historical and religious sites, respect individual rights, and ensure Waqf assets are used for the intended religious, charitable, and social welfare purposes.

TMML demands that the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025 be implemented without delay, with robust enforcement mechanisms in place. The party insists on a time-bound, digital mapping of all Waqf properties in Tamil Nadu to recover those illegally occupied and put them to use for educational and socio-economic development, especially for marginalized Muslim communities. The formation of fast-track courts is also essential to resolve lingering legal battles efficiently, and corrupt officials should be held accountable under the new provisions.

TMML appreciates the vision behind the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025 but stresses that true change lies in its execution. Legislation must be followed by decisive action to reclaim misused lands and prosecute wrongdoers. TMML suggests the formation of a community-led oversight body—comprising Islamic scholars and organizations such as the All India Muslim Personal Law Board—to monitor and guide the law’s implementation in line with both Shariah and constitutional rights.

To the Muslim community, TMML urges unity and resilience. Guided by the teachings of the Quran and the Prophet (PBUH), it’s time to stand together and reclaim Waqf as a tool for empowerment and justice. TMML also extends solidarity to secular parties like the DMK, Congress, and others, seeking their cooperation in overseeing these reforms and protecting community rights.

‘Bussy’ Anand, The Man Who Will Bury Vijay’s TVK

Part-time politician Vijay, who launched Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) with the ambition of becoming Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister in 2026, appears to be more committed to his film career than politics. Despite founding a political party, he remains fully occupied with the shooting of his upcoming movie Jana Nayagan. His engagement with public issues has been limited to issuing social media statements — most of which align with the ruling DMK’s stance. This has led many to question his seriousness as a leader, branding him not as a true political figure but a “part-time politician.” His detached style of functioning, primarily through online posts, has even earned him the nickname “Work From Home Politician.”

With the party being over a year old and its founder showing little real political initiative, the burden of leadership has fallen on TVK’s General Secretary, Bussy Anand. A long-time care taker and ardent fan of Vijay for over 25 years, Bussy Anand was initially seen as nervous and tense during media appearances — understandable for someone lacking prior public or political experience. However, the question remains: how long can inexperience be used as an excuse?

Unfortunately, Bussy Anand has not just struggled with public speaking — he’s become the center of multiple controversies, one after another. In a party that already feels like a sinking ship with no steady captain, the second-in-command seems to be only making matters worse, punching more holes into an already fragile vessel.

Below are some of the major controversies triggered by Bussy Anand. If things continue this way, TVK might end up collapsing entirely — leaving behind disillusioned fans who had hoped this would be different from other failed political experiments like Kamal Haasan’s.

Loose Talk, Media Fumbles, Leadership Missteps Paint TVK As A Political Circus

Media Fumble

Back on 27 October 2024, during the buildup to TVK’s first-ever party conference at Vikravandi in Villupuram district, the spotlight turned unexpectedly onto General Secretary Bussy N. Anand — and not for the right reasons. Faced with a relatively routine round of media questions, Anand looked visibly startled, almost as if the press had shown up to sabotage the event. In truth, journalists were simply doing their job — gathering details and updates for the public.

But Anand’s reaction was telling. Flustered, he started pleading with reporters not to stir up trouble, creating an unnecessary scene. In the midst of this, his driver apparently moved the car without warning, which led to Anand snapping in anger, scolding the driver in front of cameras.

While the party was under immense pressure, especially with eyes from the ruling DMK watching closely, this moment exposed a concerning lack of composure from someone holding such a key position. His impulsive frustration and nervous energy painted a picture of a leader not quite ready for prime-time politics.

When asked about the preparations, Anand gave a vague, awkward response, “As you can see, everything is progressing properly, right?” Another journalist followed up, “Is the Chief (Vijay) coming to inspect things himself?” That’s when Anand appeared to panic again, “What can I even say if you ask like that?” he replied, almost begging. He then blurted out at his driver, “Will you stop it?” and added, “Look, I’m not some big-shot who just sits in the car and commands. If you keep doing this, I can’t get anything done.”

This brief meltdown upset some of the press, with a few even stating they didn’t want to be contacted by TVK again. Anand tried to smooth things over, offering explanations about the event setup — that things like CCTV, chairs, and water bottles were being handled by a private contractor under police guidance. As reporters walked away, he awkwardly requested they not be angry.

While such slip-ups aren’t unheard of in politics, there’s a stark contrast here. Tamil Nadu BJP chief Annamalai faced similar tough questioning from the media during his political debut and the 2024 Lok Sabha campaigns. But he handled it with poise and confidence, even calling out the press when they crossed boundaries. Anand, in contrast, appeared nervous, confused, and overwhelmed — traits that don’t bode well for someone navigating Tamil Nadu’s high-stakes political arena.

What’s more worrying is that these lapses haven’t stopped. A recent protest in Chennai organized by TVK against the Waqf Amendment Bill highlighted another glaring issue: Bussy Anand had no clue why they were even protesting.

A ‘Leader’ Who Has Zero Knowledge About The Bill He’s Protesting Against

During a press interaction at the protest, a reporter questioned the rationale, “The Centre says the Waqf Amendment Bill helps Muslims and brings transparency. Can you point to which clause is harmful to Muslims?” Instead of a factual rebuttal, Anand stumbled through a vague, baffling response, “You’re asking which clause Muslims are affected by it… Muslims are being affected by that, and they know what all those clauses are. In what way it is right to claim right and ask share in their property? This is not fair. So, we ask them to withdraw the bill.”

The reply didn’t just dodge the question — it made no sense, exposing that the party’s General Secretary was not even briefed properly on the legislation being opposed. For someone at the helm of a supposedly rising political force, this lack of awareness is both embarrassing and dangerous.

Backlash Over Incoherent Press Interactions

Not just that — when Bussy Anand was sent as TVK’s official representative to the Anti-Delimitation All Party Committee meeting organized by the DMK, things took another embarrassing turn. After the meeting, during the press conference, he couldn’t even articulate what had happened inside. He struggled to read the notes in Tamil — his own language — and what little he read was barely understandable, leaving journalists confused and unimpressed. The moment quickly turned into a social media roast, with many trolling TVK for wanting to oppose Hindi imposition while its own leaders struggle to speak and read Tamil properly.

These repeated moments — from getting flustered in front of the media to fumbling through basic policy questions — raise serious doubts about Bussy Anand’s capacity to lead or represent TVK in any meaningful way. While the party claims to be a serious contender for 2026, the general secretary’s on-ground presence paints a very different picture: unprepared, unaware, and uneasy under pressure.

Balloon Story

One of the main highlights—or lowlights— in first ever general council meeting was General Secretary Bussy Anand’s speech, where he told a bizarre story about a party cadre’s obsession with retrieving a balloon featuring Vijay’s face, confiscated by the police. Instead of addressing real issues like governance, unemployment, or crime, Anand’s speech revolved around retrieving this balloon, which he claimed symbolized true loyalty. This anecdote sparked a wave of memes and trolling online, with critics pointing out how tone-deaf it seemed in a state grappling with serious problems.

While speaking at TVK’s first-ever general council meeting on 28 March 2025, Bussy Anand said, “I am truly indebted to the District Secretary, Brother Dhamu, at this moment. You must have noticed how well everything has been arranged, from banners to posters, put up on behalf of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. I would also like to thank the executives with him for their efforts. Not only that, but he (Dhamu) had one particular concern. He said, “Brother, I let go of a balloon. Please get it back for me.” I told him, “It’s just a balloon, let it go.” But he responded, “If it were an ordinary balloon, I would have left it. But they (the police) took the balloon with my leader’s picture on it, and I want you to get it back for me.” I replied, “That’s what our lawyers are for. We can get it back whenever we want.” Yet, he insisted, “No, no! I need my leader’s balloon, get it for me immediately.” So, I would like to say that such an unwaveringly true and ardent cadre is Dhamu.”

Criticism From Within: Strategist John Arokiasamy’s Explosive Audio Leaks

Political strategist John Arokiasamy, who had been working closely with Vijay, has added fuel to the fire with leaked audio recordings that lay bare internal dissatisfaction. Arokiasamy bluntly stated that under its current leadership, TVK wouldn’t secure even 2% of the vote share in the 2026 elections. He criticized Bussy Anand for hijacking the party’s identity, pushing his own image to the forefront, and sidelining Vijay—the supposed face of the movement.

Arokiasamy compared the situation to putting Duraimurugan’s face in place of Stalin’s or Sasikala’s instead of Jayalalithaa. According to him, every party must have a clear central figure and diluting that identity is political suicide. He added that cadres now view Vijay as a figurehead, while Anand acts as the de facto leader—an arrangement that, in his words, is “a recipe for disaster.”

Vijay’s “Work-from-Home Politician” Tag

The strategist also criticized Vijay’s passive leadership style, calling him a “work-from-home politician.” According to Arokiasamy, Vijay has not been hands-on with party affairs and often allows Anand to take the reins. This lack of direct involvement has caused confusion and frustration among TVK’s base, who had hoped for a more engaged and proactive leadership after the October 2024 state-level conference.

A Second Audio Leak And Growing Paranoia

A second leaked recording surfaced shortly after, with Arokiasamy voicing deeper concerns about internal sabotage, miscommunication, and poor strategy. He warned that the inner circle is leaking plans, diluting focus on important issues like caste census and climate preparedness. He also recounted that even carefully designed strategies—like focusing on drug control—ended up backfiring, as TVK cadres were soon after implicated in narcotics-related cases.

He painted a picture of chaos within the leadership, describing Anand as a “split personality” who could be warm and helpful one moment and destructive the next. Arokiasamy further warned that continuing on this path would ruin not just TVK’s prospects but also damage Vijay’s carefully curated public image.

Cadres Cry Foul Over Favoritism and Bribery—All Roads Lead To Bussy Anand

Recently, the TVK, faced its most significant internal crisis. What began as a fan boy movement to a promising change and integrity for political entry mired in allegations of favoritism, power abuse, and pay-to-play politics—all pointed toward the party’s General Secretary, Bussy Anand.

Frustration brewed among grassroots workers, especially after controversial district-level appointments. One of the strongest voices to emerge was that of Sathya Nanthakumar, a long-standing cadre and loyal member of the Vijay Makkal Iyakkam. In an emotional video shared on social media, Sathya accused the leadership of overlooking her contributions and instead favoring individuals with personal ties to party insiders in Theni.

She claimed that Left Pandi, Prakash, and Ajitha Devendran—who were allegedly related or closely connected—played key roles in excluding her from recognition. The accusations made against her, she insisted, were completely baseless. She stated, “I was accused of having four police cases, but when I asked for proof, none was provided. I went to the police station and got a certificate confirming I had no cases. I showed it to Bussy Anand, but he didn’t even acknowledge it.”

Sathya believed she became a target after Admin Jagadeesan praised her work on social media. According to her, that simple gesture sparked envy and led to a smear campaign by rival factions within the party. “If Vijay himself were to appreciate my work one day, would that too become a reason to attack me?” she asked bitterly.

Bribery Allegations ‘Leadership Demanded It’

The crisis deepened when TVK executive Seeman Kumaresan held a press conference in Villupuram, leveling explosive allegations of bribery ‘Cash-for-posts’. According to Kumaresan, Kushi Mohan, the South Villupuram District Secretary, had demanded bribes ranging from ₹3 to ₹15 lakh for appointments to various positions within the party.

He alleged that longtime supporters and Vijay loyalists were being pushed aside in favor of newcomers—some even from rival parties like the DMK—who had paid their way in. “I’ve been a fan of Vijay since the Vishnu days in 1995. After decades of support, I was told to pay ₹4 lakh for the role of district executive. When I asked who was behind this, they said, ‘The leadership.’ I asked, ‘Do you mean Vijay?’ and they replied, ‘No.’ So who is this leadership?”

Kumaresan presented a demand draft cheque from another candidate as evidence—someone who was promised a position but was ultimately replaced. In a dramatic act of protest, party executives tore up the cheque in front of the press, calling it a symbol of betrayal and their disillusionment with the party’s inner workings.

All Cards Pointed Towards Bussy Anand

A recurring theme in both Sathya’s and Kumaresan’s accusations was the role of Bussy Anand, TVK’s General Secretary and the party’s second-in-command. Both whistleblowers claimed that Anand not only ignored their complaints but might also have been actively enabling and protecting those involved in favoritism and bribery.

Their concerns echoed previous claims made by John Arokiasamy, the party’s strategist, who had been heard in a leaked audio accusing Anand of taking control of the party’s decision-making and deliberately keeping Vijay in the dark. With growing evidence and consistent testimonies, the real question no longer seemed to be whether corruption existed within TVK—but whether Vijay had the awareness or authority to confront it.

Bussy Anand’s Overreach Reportedly Sealed TVK’s Chances For Alliance With AIADMK

In what appears to be a decisive turning point, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) found itself completely isolated on the alliance front—largely due to what sources describe as a miscalculated negotiation effort led by the party’s General Secretary, Bussy Anand.

TVK, spearheaded by actor-turned-politician Vijay, had initially shown willingness to enter coalition politics. During the party’s maiden conference, Vijay openly stated that TVK would explore alliance options for the 2026 elections, signaling ambitions to lead a coalition government. Among the potential partners, AIADMK and VCK were considered high on the list.

However, those hopes soon began to dim. The VCK, under Thirumavalavan, kept a noticeable distance. Even Vijay’s recent gesture on 14 April 2025, where he paid tribute to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar at a memorial draped in VCK flags and Thirumavalavan’s images, failed to warm the relationship. Despite the optics suggesting he sought their goodwill, VCK’s cold response made it clear that no alliance was in sight.

The final blow, however, came from the AIADMK, which, according to insiders, firmly shut the door on any future collaboration with TVK. The reason? A negotiation gone wrong—led by none other than Bussy Anand, sarcastically dubbed as the “negotiation king.

According to political sources, Anand approached the AIADMK with unrealistic demands, including over 120 seats (more than 50% of the total assembly) and even a proposal for rotational chief ministership, where Vijay would serve as CM for half the term. The AIADMK leadership, reportedly stunned by the audacity of these demands, saw it as nothing short of political overreach.

Many in the political sphere mocked the move, comparing it to a party that hasn’t even stood in an election acting like it’s ready to rule the state. Anand’s aggressive bargaining reportedly irritated the AIADMK so much that it chose to permanently walk away from alliance discussions with TVK.

In short, what could have been TVK’s entry into mainstream coalition politics ended in isolation—thanks, many believe, to Bussy Anand’s overplayed hand.

In the end, the TVK ship—launched just a year ago with grand ambitions to navigate the turbulent waters of Tamil Nadu politics—now appears to be drifting without a captain. With the winds constantly shifting and no steady hand at the helm, the party’s second-in-command behaves as though it’s a circus, steering the course with no sense of direction or responsibility. By the time the part-time politician finally arrives to take charge after wrapping up his film schedule, General Secretary Bussy Anand may have already played the final funeral tune for what could have been a promising political voyage.
