Ahead Of Agriculture Budget, TVK Minister Performs Puja At Tirupati With Draft Budget In First-Ever Move

Ahead of the presentation of the Tamil Nadu Agriculture Budget, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Vinoth Vijay offered prayers at the Sri Venkateswara Temple in Tirupati on Friday, placing the budget documents before the deity and seeking blessings, as reported in Minnambalam.

This was reportedly the first time such prayers were offered.

The Tamil Nadu government is scheduled to present the 2026–27 State Budget on August 5, followed by the Agriculture Budget on August 6.

Earlier, Finance Minister Maria Wilson had said that Chief Minister Vijay had been holding a series of consultations with ministers and departmental officials in preparation for the Budget.

As part of the Agriculture Budget preparations, the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department had organised a stakeholders’ consultation meeting at the Anna Centenary Library in Chennai on July 27. The meeting was attended by Agriculture Minister Vinoth Vijay, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Sengottaiyan, Food Minister Venkataramanan, and other officials.

Speaking at the consultation, Vinoth Vijay had said that suggestions were being sought on issues including irrigation facilities, natural farming, and crop insurance, and that these inputs would be incorporated into the preparation of the Agriculture Budget.

He had also said that the government had set a target of producing 131.36 lakh metric tonnes of food grains during 2026–27 and that various initiatives were being undertaken to achieve that goal.

After offering prayers at Tirupati on August 1, Vinoth Vijay told reporters that he had visited the temple to seek the blessings of Lord Venkateswara ahead of the presentation of the Agriculture Budget.
