Uttarkhand Govt repeals Char Dham Devasthanam Board Management Act

In the poll-bound state of Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday (30 November) announced that the BJP ruled state has decided to repeal the controversial Char Dham Devasthanam Board Management Act.

When the Char Dham Devasthanam Board Management Act was enacted many Hindus felt that this was a betrayal as Hindus in India want to control their own temples just as Muslims and Christians do of their places of worship.

The announcement comes just months from the state election and after a high-level committee that was set up by the Dhami government to take a look into the Uttarakhand Char Dham Devasthanam Management Act, 2019, the committee submitted its final report to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in Rishikesh on Sunday.

The act was passed by the BJP government in Uttarakhand in 2019 when Trivendra Singh Rawat was CM under which the administration of 51 temples including the Char Dham – Shri Badrinath, Shri Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri- was handed over to Char Dham Devasthanam Board.

However, priests of the Chardham — Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri fearlessly opposed the formation of board, which they saw as a violation of their rights, and have been demanding its dissolution.

Russia tests Tsirkon hypersonic cruise missile at Barents Sea

Russia has gotten one step closer to perfecting its hypersonic cruise missile as it again tested Tsirkon hypersonic cruise missile on Monday (November 29)

The hypersonic cruise missile is the next level in advanced weapons design and as of now, Russia, the United States, France, and China have all been experimenting with hypersonic glide vehicles that would allow the missile to reach speeds of at least Mach 5.

The missile was fired from the warship Admiral Gorshkov as part of “the completion of tests” of Russia’s hypersonic missile weapons. The Tsirkon missile was launched in the Barents Sea at a range of 400 kilometers, and “the target was hit,” the Defense Ministry said.

Russia is working on equipping both its warships and submarines with the Tsirkon that has undergone a number of recent tests. If the missile is integrated with a submarine, it would pose even more danger to adversaries because it is almost impossible to shoot a missile traveling at mach5.

Russian President Vladimir Putin made the announcement of the development of the new weapon in a state of the nation address in February 2019 and said the missile could hit targets at sea and on land with a range of 1,000 kilometers and a speed of Mach 9.

Russia’s latest Tsirkon test came in the wake of a Chinese hypersonic glider test flight that was conducted in July when China claimed it successfully testes a missile that is five times the speed of sound over the South China Sea. However, China has claimed that it was a routine test of a reusable space vehicle.

“Sriperumbudur Sivan Temple was illegally demolished”: Temple priest shows docs for the land

Earlier this week, the news of the DMK government demolishing a Shiva temple in Sriperumbudur, because it was built on government land was shared across news platforms.

Officials and police officers led by the Kanchipuram District Revenue officer, Paneer Selvam, went to a village called Killai in the Sriperumbudur Taluk of the Kanchipuram district and ordered the demolition of the Sivan Temple and the canteen that was allegedly situated on a government land.

Many questioned the double standards of the government asking if government can encroach on temple land what is wrong if it is vice-versa? Many were angered because the destruction happened overnight without proper procedure or information to stakeholders.

Now, the local residents, devotees of the temple and the priests of the temple have started a protest against the unfair and hasty demolition of the Shiva temple. In a video that was shared on Twitter, one of the priests is seen saying that a bond for the land that the temple was built on was issued to them by the district Tahsildar. “The District Revenue Office did not even take a minute to see these papers,” he says showing the bond.

The priest also says that the officer did not look at the papers because he would not be able to demolish it then and therefore calls the demolition a planned conspiracy. The temple that was has been there for 17 years now was demolished within 12 hours time.

The priest also says, “Even the Mughals who attacked temples only took the property of the temples. But, this government has demolished this temple to its roots, leaving us helpless. We want an apology from the government and this temple will come back even if it is demolished 108 times.”

This alleged illegal demolition comes at a time where news about a Church that is encroaching canal land in Kilkattalai is also being shared. The Church, that was marked by IAS Officer Amudha, 4 years back, is still not demolished, and continues to bother the residents of Kilkattalai because of water clogging.

Phil Saviano who led the crusade against sex abuse coverup by Catholic Church dies

Phil Saviano who exposed decades of predatory sexual assaults by pedophile Catholic priests in their parish has passed away due to complications caused by gallbladder cancer.

Saviano who was himself a victim of sexual abuse played a very important role as a whistleblower and figured prominently in the 2015 Oscar-winning film Spotlight, about the Boston Globe investigation that exposed a number of priests who molested children and got away with it because the powerful and influential church leaders covered it up.

As more information on Catholic Church coverup of the rampant sexual abuse carried out by priests started to emerge, it was evident that Cardinal Law was fully aware of child molesters but instead covered up their crimes to protect the Church and he did not report them to authorities.

Instead, Law just transferred them from parish to parish without alerting parents or police that led to more children being molested.

When Cardinal Law died in the comfort of the Vatican in 2017, Saviano said, “How is he going to explain this when he comes face to face with his maker?”

Eventually, Cardinal Bernard Law’s role in the coverup was exposed on how he protected pedophile Catholic priests and that led to the resignation of a very powerful individual who went to great lengths to keep this matter in the dark.

The Church was so protective of its priests and its reputation, it chose to pay settlements in hundreds of millions of dollars to hundreds of victims but it is yet to take concrete measures against many priests.

The Boston Globe investigation of the 2002 series earned the newspaper Pulitzer Prize for Public Service in 2003 and the movie Spotlight won Oscars for best picture and best original screenplay.

Mike Rezendes, a member of the Globe team that investigated the scandal said, “Phil was an essential source during the Spotlight team’s reporting on the cover-up of sexual abuse in the Catholic church, providing other critical sources, research materials and the names of several accused priests.

“He also shared his own heartbreaking story of abuse, imbuing us with the iron determination we needed to break this horrific story. During our reporting, and over the last 20 years, I got to know Phil well and have never met anyone as brave, as compassionate or as savvy.”

Saviano was an 11-year-old in the early 1960s when his priest, David Holley, forced him to perform sex acts. Later, Holley died in a New Mexico prison in 2008, while serving a 275-year sentence for molesting eight boys.

“When we were kids, the priests never did anything wrong. You didn’t question them, same as the police,” Jim Saviano said. “There were many barriers put in [Phil’s] way intentionally and otherwise by institutions and generational thinking. That didn’t stop him. That’s a certain kind of bravery that was unique.”

Saviano called himself a “recovering Catholic” and established the New England chapter of the Survivors Network of those abused by Priests, or Snap, an organization working to bring allegations to light.

He became an outspoken critic of the Vatican and helped the investigation immensely as he personally contacted many victims of Catholic clergy sexual abuse. He was very angry towards the Vatican’s reluctance to deal decisively and objectively even after Pope Benedict XVI hinted that US bishops had mishandled the Church’s response during his visit to the US, Saviano questioned the pontiff’s decision to hold masses in New York and Washington.

In 2019, at the Vatican for an abuse prevention summit called convened by Pope Francis, Saviano called for the release the names of abusive priests around the world along with their case files.

“Do it to launch a new era of transparency. Do it to break the code of silence. Do it out of respect for the victims of these men, and do it to help prevent these creeps from abusing any more children,” he said.

Jai Bhim controversy: After Rajakannu’s wife, his younger son Ravi exposes Suriya and Chandru

Suriya’s Jai Bhim has been sinking deep into controversies as some new issue surrounding the movie comes up every single day. The latest addition to the list of controversies comes as a complaint from Rajakannu’s second son, Ravi. Just like Rajakannu’s wife Parvathy (Sengenni) who revealed that she was not helped by Suriya or any of the other crew members, Ravi too exposes the actor and the false image constructed by Jai Bhim.

In an interview to a Youtube Channel, Ravi, from Virudhachalam, rants about how he was also very much involved in the case 30 years back, but he wasn’t told that a movie was going to be made of his father’s life story. “I was 15 years old, and they took me along with my father. Police officials Anthony Samy and Veerasamy broke these fingers of mine,” Ravi says showing two of his fingers.

He goes onto say that Advocate Chandru never helped him personally and mentions a few names, Govindhan, Kathiravel, Rajendran, Raj Mohan, etc. who helped him out back then. He then laments about his motherless children and says that he even struggles to get a Community certificate for his daughter till date.

Ravi’s mother-in-law is seen saying, “We are all here like orphans without a proper roof on top of our head. If Suriya helps us in anyway, then alright. If not we will go to court and fight for justice.” Ravi also adds that he will directly approach the CM MK Stalin and ask him for justice.

All three sons of Rajakannu are in a helpless state, with no place to stay and not much financial help. The people behind the story are still in a pathetic state, even though Jai Bhim shows Chandru (actor Suriya) handing over a new house to Sengenni (Parvathi) after her legal victory.

Earlier, Parvathy said that while the actor has made crores of money through the movie, she hasn’t received any help from them till date. She added that her two sons are mentally challenged and has been struggling to make ends meet living with her daughter and son-in-law.  After this video of Parvathy speaking openly was released, Suriya released a Press release saying that a fund has been deposited to her account.
