Indonesia’s new capital ‘Nusantara’ is a tribute to the country’s ancient Hindu heritage

The Indonesian parliament has approved a bill to relocate the nation’s capital from Jakarta to a jungled area of East Kalimantan and the new capital city will be called Nusantara (meaning- archipelago) encompasses an area of 180,000 hectares between the regencies of Kutai Kartanegara and Penajam Paser Utara.

The name for the new capital for the world’s most populous Muslim country dates back to an oath by the country’s revered hero Gajah Mada in 1336.

Gajah Mada was a powerful military leader and prime minister of Majapahit, a Javanese Hindu empire as President Joko Widodo wants to highlight the country’s motto of “unity in diversity”

Gajah Mada who was a powerful military leader is widely credited with the unification of the entire archipelago and taking the empire to its peak of glory.

In April last year, the initial design for the presidential palace complex and the new capital was revealed to the public and Balinese sculptor Nyoman Nuarta, who is famous for sculpting the Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) statue was commissioned to design a structure.

In Indonesia, Garuda who is the divine bird and Vahana of the Hindu god Vishnu is the national emblem.

Nuarta design will now become the showpiece of the new Presidential Palace complex in the planned new capital city.

In August 2019, Indonesian President Joko Widodo announced had chosen two regencies in East Kalimantan as the location for Indonesia’s new capital.

Since independence in 1949, Jakarta has served as the administrative, financial and trade centre of Indonesia and the new state capital law, which stipulates funding and governance structure for the new capital, will enable President Joko Widodo to press ahead with the ambitious US$32 billion megaprojects.

“The government has conducted in-depth studies in the past three years and as a result of those studies the new capital will be built in part of North Penajam Paser regency and part of Kutai Kertanegara regency in East Kalimantan,” the President said.

“Jakarta has received overwhelming burdens as the centre of administration, business, finance, trade and services, as well as (housing) the country’s largest airport and seaport,” Joko added during the briefing.

The burden on Java island is also increasing because it is now home to 150 million people or 54 per cent of the population, he pointed.

This is not the first time a country in South East Asia has changed its capital, neighbouring Malaysia moved its administrative capital to Putrajaya in 2003, and Myanmar changed its capital to Naypyitaw in 2006.

Bhima Yudhistira, an economist with the Jakarta-based Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (INDEF) said, “according to a study, the impact of the new capital project on addressing regional development issues is relatively small,”.

King of good times faces prospect of being evicted from his London home for non-payment of loan to Swiss bank

In another setback for the fugitive tycoon Vijay Mallya,  former king of good times now is facing the prospect of being evicted from his luxurious Central London home after a UK High Court ruled against him in a dispute with the Swiss bank UBS.

Mallya held a mortgage obtained from UBS worth 20 million-pound for this property, located along Cornwall Terrace in one of the most sought-after real estates in the British capital, minutes from Regent`s Park.

At present, Mallya lives in the property with his son Siddharth and his 95-year-old mother Lalitha.

A judge sitting in the chancery division of the High Court on Tuesday (January 18) refused a request by Mallya`s lawyers for a stay on repaying the UBS loan after Mallya failed to meet a previous repayment deadline in April 2020.

However, UBS were unable to evict the Mallya’s from the home due to COVID regulations but today’s ruling is like the last nail in the coffin as it paves the way for UBS to repossess the property.

Vijay Mallya who has been accused of Rs 9,000 crore fraud relating to the collapse of Kingfisher Airlines allegedly owns numerous properties in the UK and elsewhere, including a sprawling country home in Hertfordshire, north of London.

‘Jan 26 is R-Day not Independence Day’: TN BJP chief Annamalai takes jibe at CM Stalin

Two days ago, news channels in Tamil Nadu started by peddling baseless allegations on the Central government for allegedly rejecting Tamil Nadu’s tableau for not having ‘prominent freedom fighters’. It was amplified through debates by mainstream Tamil news channel snowballing it into an Centre vs State issue.

Following this CM Stalin had written a letter to the Centre asking to include Tamil Nadu’s tableau in the Republic Day parade for this year.

However, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in a letter to CM Stalin had pointed out that selection of tableaus is done after due process that is handled by a committee comprising of eminent persons from arts, culture, sculpting, etc. He said that Tamil Nadu’s tableau did not make it through the third round of the process. He also pointed out that Tamil Nadu’s tableau was present in the Republic Day parades of 2017, 2019, 2020 and 2021.

Despite this clarification being issued, CM MK Stalin said that the tableau would be taken across Tamil Nadu on 26th January. Reacting to this, Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai went onto tweet a set of suggestions for the CM, when he presents the tableau to the people of Tamil Nadu. “I respectfully suggest TN CM Thiru @mkstalin avl to keep in mind the following points when he takes the Tableau across TN on Jan 26th 1.The nationalist thoughts & strong spirituality espoused by Mahakavi Subramani Bharati. The Bharat that he dreamed is the mantra for @BJP4India.  Mahakavi Subramanya Bhartiyar stood for everything against what @arivalayam practices now. I’m sure he would like a Tilak in his forehead when you showcase him around. He always was proud of his Tamilian & Bhartiya Identity,” he said.

He then went onto give a few more points about Veeramangai Velu Naachiyar and VO Chidambaram as well.

He also took a jibe at CM Stalin who had earlier made faux pas confusing the dates of Independence Day and Republic Day.

#WhereIsGokul: 10 years on, search for man allegedly kidnapped by Senthil Balaji goes on

In the year 2011, Deivanai, mother of Gokul from Karur, alleged that her son was abducted, drugged and was made to sign papers to transfer crores of assets and money belonging to him. This news came out and was reported by many news channels back then. V. Senthil Balaji, currently a Minister in the Stalin-led DMK government was accused of hiding him with his money and muscle power.

It has been more than 10 years, and still there is no update or information on Gokul, who was allegedly abducted by Minister Senthil Balaji.

Speaking to News J in 2019, Deivanai accused Senthil Balaji and his men of abducting her son and grabbing property worth ₹25 crores. When Gokul resisted, they had threatened to harm his family if he doesn’t handover the properties. Deivanai further added that Senthil Balaji and his gang forcefully obtained signatures on property documents after drugging him.

It was in this circumstances that Gokul went missing. After years of searching for him, Deivanai filed a haebus corpus petition at the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court in 2019. She outrightly mentions that she suspects Senthil Balaji behind her son’s disappearance.

Now, Chief Minister and then Opposition leader MK Stalin too had spoken about this case multiple times since 2011. “The Minister accused of kidnapping has no qualification to talk about my qualification.”, read the headline of Murasoli published on 2nd April 2013.

(Murasoli – 2.4.2013)

He even quoted the issue when he came to Karur for his election campaign on  17th April 2016.

It is being reported that Stalin had given assurity to Devanai that her son would be found as soon as DMK comes back to power, on the very same day. However, 10 years on, the mother’s search for her son still goes on.

Meppaddiyan: Malayalam movie that shows services of RSS becomes runaway hit despite opposition from Islamists and Communists

The Meppaddiyan movie in Malayalam has become a grand success, in spite of facing staunch opposition from Islamists, Communists and the left-liberal coterie.

The movie is directed by debutant Vishnu Mohan, under Unni Mukundan’s banner, who is also the hero of the film.

The movie has scenes that shows services rendered by Sevabharathi, an NGO affiliated to the RSS.

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is a socio-cultural organization whose members dedicate themselves to the cause of national unity and plunge themselves on the frontline whenever a disaster strikes. They also carry out several services in health, education and other areas for uplifting the poor and downtrodden. Most importantly, it is one organisation that serves all, without caste and religious discrimination, and also acts a identity and protector of Hindus.

However, Islamic and Christian fundamentalists along with Communists have been portraying the RSS as a extremist organisation to people belonging to other religions. A few scenes from this Malayalam film Meppaddiyan, sheds light on the selfless services performed by the Sevabharati of the RSS organisation, This has caused furor amidst other religious fundamentalists and Communists. Unni Mukundan and Mepaddiyan started facing opposition and baseless accusations from these Islamists and Christian fundamentalists.

The reason why this is happening is because, the Malayalam film industry, that was once under the control of Hindu actors and producers, are now under the control of Christian and Muslim actors and producers. So they have made it a routine to place baseless complaints on such Hindu actors and producers and somehow exclude them from the film industry.

CM Stalin gives ₹10 lakhs to family of Dalit man who died after release from police custody, had asked ex-CM EPS to resign during Sathankulam incident

2 days ago, in yet another incident of police brutality, a physically-challenged man, Parabhakaran (45), belonging to the Dalit community in Salem district who was implicated in a theft case, died hours after release from police custody.

Prabhakaran, who was in jail from 11th January, was admitted in the Salem Government Hospital after his health deteriorated at the supervision of jail wardens. He reportedly got bail in the alleged theft case a few days back and was sent back home from the hospital. However, Prabhakaran died on the same night at 11:30 PM. Following this, three Police officials were suspended from duty.

Now, after many have demanded that action be taken against Police Brutality, Chief Minister MK Stalin has announced that Prabhakaran’s family will receive a compensation of ₹10 lakhs. However, he has not said anything about taking action against the Police officers who are allegedly behind Prabhakaran’s death.

It is to be noted that when MK Stalin was the opposition leader, he asked the then CM Edappadi Palaniswami, why he had not taken any responsibility for the death on Father-son duo Jeyaraj and Bennix in Police custody. He had said that the CM had given the authority to the Police officers and therefore he must take responsibility for their death. However, now that Stalin has occupied the CM chair, he has not taken any responsibility for the physically-challenged Prabhakran’s death due to Police brutality. This has been questioned by AIADMK Spokesperson Kovai Sathyan.

It is also to be noted that many cases of death due to Police Brutality, and death in Police Custody, have been reported ever since the DMK took power in May, 2021. Before this, Manikandan, a 21-yr-old from Ramanathapuram, had lost his life in a petty case, due to Police brutality. No action has been taken against the Police officers, even in previous cases.

India has issued a Notice to Airmen or Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) warning for the launch of an experimental Indigenously-developed Hypersonic Technology Demonstrator Vehicle (HSTDV) flight take off over the Bay of Bengal for the period from January 22 to 25.

As per reports, the maximum designated length is 600 km and this is expected to be the longer duration test of the hypersonic technology demonstrator vehicle.

With China making a stride on hypersonic missile technology, the Indian government has also fast-tracked its development and a 1500 km range production-ready hypersonic missile will be ready within the next four years. in terms of India’s preparedness on the Eastern front.

Indigenously-developed HSTDV will be tested from Integrated Test Range (ITR) on Abdul Kalam Island in the Bay of Bengal.

The test is aimed towards the development of an entire range of very high cruise missiles and other weapon systems and already in 2021 India successfully test-fired the Agni-P missile two times.

Also, a successful flight test of the HSTDV was also conducted in the month of September last year and the ballistic missile developed by DRDO has a range between 1,000 and 2,000 kilometres, weighing half of Agni-III and has new kinds of propulsion and new guidance.

India already has the 4000-kilometre range Agni-IV and 5000-kilometre range Agni-V that went through user trial on October 27, 2021, and is now validated for induction under India’s credible minimum deterrence policy.
