Veera Vanchinathan: The Hero Who Turned Ashe To Ashes, Unmasking The Falsehood Peddled By Dravidian Gangs

On the fateful day of 17 June 1911, history was forever altered by a courageous act of defiance in the heartland of Tamil Nadu. The stage was set at the Maniyachi Railway Junction, a bustling hub of activity, where a train briefly paused, unaware of the impending tragedy that awaited one of its passengers.

In a swift and audacious move, a young revolutionary from Tamil Nadu seized the moment. Armed with unwavering determination and a resolute belief in the cause he championed, 26-year-old Vanchinathan emerged as a symbol of courage and defiance against British colonial rule. Today, he is hailed as Veera Vanchinathan or Veera Vanchi, an embodiment of valour and sacrifice.

His target was none other than Robert Ashe, the British collector of Tirunelveli District, who represented the oppressive regime that had gripped the land. With unwavering conviction, Vanchinathan aimed his weapon and fired, ending Ashe’s life in an act of revolutionary retribution.

Veera Vanchinathan’s actions reverberated throughout the nation, sending shockwaves through the British establishment and emboldening countless others in the fight for independence. His act of defiance was not simply an act of revenge, but a powerful statement that resistance was alive and thriving in the hearts of the oppressed.

For years, organisations such as Vanchinathan Peravai or Veera Vanchi Iyakkam have been honouring the memory of Vanchinathan by placing floral tributes and adorning his statue in Senkottai. Over the past five to six years, certain fringe groups and individuals have made it an annual tradition to exploit this occasion in order to promote their divisive agenda within the Hindu community.

A lesser-known group called Athi Tamilar Peravai, which purports to be a Dalit organisation, held a memorial ceremony at the tomb of Robert William d’Escourt Ashe. This tomb is situated within the grounds of the English Church, directly opposite St. John’s College in Palayamkottai, Tirunelveli. It is worth mentioning that Ashe was assassinated by Vanchinathan.

Robert William d’Escourt Ashe, commonly referred to as Collector Ashe, held the position of Acting Collector and District Magistrate of Tirunelveli. He played a prominent role in suppressing the freedom movement by employing harsh police measures against patriots. It is believed that he took it upon himself to dismantle the Swadeshi Steam Navigation Company, which was established by V O Chidambaram Pillai, a renowned freedom fighter who dedicated his wealth to promote the company. The British Raj, concerned about its impact on their commercial interests, resorted to both legal and unethical means to undermine the Swadeshi shipping initiatives, leading to financial losses and the eventual closure of the company.

Vanchi enjoyed a contented family life and held a well-paying government position when he became aware of V O Chidambaram Pillai, commonly known as V O C, who was actively opposing the British colonialists. In 1906, V O C initiated the establishment of the Swadeshi Steam Navigation Company, an Indian shipping enterprise aimed at challenging the British monopoly in the shipping industry within the region. Additionally, V O C organised workers and led a strike against the management firm A&F Harvey, which was notorious for providing inadequate wages to its labourers. It is worth noting that Ashe provided unwavering support to the said management firm.

Likewise, Ashe displayed a particular interest in accusing Chidambaranar and his associate Subramania Siva of sedition. Consequently, Chidambaranar was convicted and sentenced to double life imprisonment as a punishment. This development ignited strong sentiments among freedom fighters in the area. Ashe, determined to dismantle the Swadeshi Steam Navigation Company, went to great lengths to achieve his objective. Furthermore, he authorised the use of lethal force during protests against VOC’s arrest by issuing shoot-on-sight orders.

These events deeply saddened the freedom fighters and numerous young individuals. Filled with a desire to seek vengeance for these atrocities, they patiently awaited the opportune moment. Taking inspiration from movements like Abhinava Bharat, they united under the banner of Bharata Mata Sangam. Guided by figures such as Va Ve Su Aiyar, who had provided assistance to Veer Savarkar in England, and Neelakanta Brahmachari, the youth received guidance and direction. Among them, Vanchinathan was chosen to undertake a significant mission. At that time, Vanchinathan held a temporary job in Senkottai within the princely state of Travancore. He had been married for less than a year, and his teenage wife was visiting her family during this period.

On 17 June 1911, Collector Ashe and his wife were travelling to Kodaikanal, a hill station, for a period of rest and recuperation. They were occupying a special saloon cabin, which had been stationed at Maniyachi Junction in anticipation of their onward journey to Kodaikanal. Unexpectedly, Vanchinathan entered the cabin and fired two shots at close range, instantly ending Ashe’s life. In response, Ashe’s wife raised an alarm, prompting Vanchinathan to flee along the platform and lock himself in a restroom. Tragically, Vanchinathan took his own life while inside the restroom. Accompanying Vanchinathan was another young individual named Sankara Krishnan Aiyar, who had been standing outside the cabin.

The Letter

The assassination was triggered by an unambiguous message found in a letter discovered in Vanchinathan’s shirt pocket at the scene. The letter read as follows:

“I dedicate my life as a small contribution to my motherland. I am solely responsible for this act. The English invaders have occupied our country, trampling upon the eternal principles of Hinduism and seeking to destroy them. Every Indian is striving to drive out the English, establish self-rule (swarajyam), and restore the principles of Hinduism. Our great figures such as Raman, Sivaji, Krishnan, Guru Govindan, and Arjuna ruled our land, protecting all aspects of righteousness. However, in our land, arrangements are being made to crown George V, a foreigner (mleccha) who consumes beef.

Three thousand individuals from Madras have taken a vow to kill George V as soon as he sets foot in our country. To make our intentions known, I, being the least among them, have carried out this deed today. This is a duty that every individual in Hindustan should consider.

I will kill Ashe, whose presence here is to celebrate the crowning of George V, a king who consumes the flesh of cows, in this glorious land that was once governed by great emperors. I do this to make them understand the fate that awaits those who seek to enslave this sacred land.

As the least among them, I wish to send a warning to George by killing Ashe.

Vande Mataram. Vande Mataram. Vande Mataram.”

Controversies And Alternative Narratives: Debunking Misconceptions Surrounding The Event

In recent years, a new narrative has emerged surrounding the assassination of Collector Ashe, more than a century after the event took place. This narrative presents a twist in the tale, challenging the straightforward facts. It is intriguing to delve into the details of this alternative perspective. Certain individuals, masquerading as historians, and organisations like ATP have begun projecting Ashe as a “crusader of social justice” and painting Vanchinathan as a casteist Brahmin. They offer two reasons that supposedly led to the “martyrdom” of Collector Ashe:

1) According to this claim, Ashe made Courtallam Falls accessible to all, including common people, despite it allegedly being reserved for upper castes. This so-called “noble” action by Ashe is said to have angered the upper castes, who supposedly “commissioned” Vanchinathan to eliminate Ashe. However, this claim is easily refuted as no concrete evidence or government order supports the notion that Ashe opened the falls to all castes. When nationalists challenged these assertions, the so-called champions of Dalits failed to provide any proof of such a “noble” action.

Another press report provides an interesting and historically plausible perspective. A press report from October 2, 2019, reveals that Mahatma Gandhi refused to bathe at Kutralam Falls during his visit in 1934 due to the prevalence of untouchability there. It is strange to discover that twenty-three years after Ashe’s assassination, the same status quo of untouchability persisted. This information undermines the claims made about Ashe’s actions against untouchability at the falls.

When this theory was debunked, the proponents of the alternative narrative resorted to wild imagination and presented a sentimental story.

2) K G Kalaikannan, the Tirunelveli district secretary of the Aadhi Tamilar Peravai, put forth a version stating that Vanchinatha Iyer was provoked by Ashe’s wife, Mary Lillian Patterson, who assisted a pregnant outcast woman in need of immediate medical treatment to pass through the agraharam. According to this claim, Vanchinathan killed Ashe to protect the Brahminical establishment. However, there is no evidence to prove the occurrence of this incident.

In the face of these conflicting accounts, it becomes crucial to critically analyse the evidence presented and seek a clearer understanding of the true events surrounding the assassination of Collector Ashe.

Amid the concerted efforts by Dravidian outfits to tarnish the legacy of our freedom fighters and distort their sacrifices, it is an opportune moment to reflect on the words of Bharathiyar’s poignant poem: “This crop called freedom is not nurtured by water. It has flourished amidst tears. Do we possess the audacity to ruin it?”.

The targeting of Tamil Brahmins by Dravidian outfits is not a recent phenomenon, but the intensity of their hate propaganda has reached its peak, sparing not even the revered freedom fighters.

Another BJP Supporter Arrested For Alleged Defamatory Posts About Stalin

In a concerning development, the Coimbatore City Cyber Crime Police took oppressive measures on Tuesday (20 June 2023) by apprehending Uma Gargi, a vocal supporter of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a social media influencer. The arrest was made on charges of sharing allegedly defamatory posts against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, former CM M Karunanidhi, and Dravidian movement leader EV Ramasamy.

The action was initiated based on a complaint filed by the coordinator of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Information Technology (IT) wing in Coimbatore district, raising concerns about the government’s increasing interference with freedom of speech.

Uma Gargi has been charged under the stringent Section 505 (1)(c) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). This provision criminalizes the act of making, publishing or circulating statements or reports that are deemed to incite enmity or hatred among different communities based on race, religion, caste, or other identities.

The alleged defamatory comments made by Gargi revolved around allegations against former CM Karunanidhi, claiming that he had received a substantial sum of Rs 200 crore as ‘commission’ from a Hyderabad-based company in connection with the establishment of a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Nanguneri, Tirunelveli district.

This arrest comes right after the government arrested SG Suryah (Tamil Nadu BJP State Secretary) last week for a tweet over the death of a hygiene worker who was allegedly forced to clean a faeces-filled drain by a Communist councillor.

The DMK government had allocated a sum in last year’s budget toward social media monitoring and the ITWReports handle on Twitter has been targetting individuals from the opposition party, the Bharatiya Janata Party, or just anyone who is a vocal supporter of the BJP.

Uma Gargi was recently felicitated at the Social Media Influencers meet by Tamil Nadu BJP leader, K Annamalai.

Senthilbalaji Surgery: Conflict Of Interest Alleged As ESI Director Is None Other Than Stalin’s Brother-In-Law

A startling fact has come to light that has raised eyebrows about the team of doctors responsible for assessing the health condition of the former Liquor Minister in the DMK government.

DMK Minister Senthilbalaji who has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on charges of money laundering in the Transport Department cash-for-job case was admitted to the Omandurar Government Hospital after he complained of “chest pain” on getting arrested.

Following orders from the Madras High Court, the DMK Minister was later admitted to Kauvery Hospital, Chennai  based on a medical report furnished by a medical team from Omandurar Hospital and the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) hospital. He is set to undergo a bypass surgery on 21 June 2023 at the Kauvery Hospital, a private hospital whose management is said to have close ties with the DMK.

However, the DMK has denied any bias into the medical examination of Senthilbalaji saying that doctors who examined him include those from ESIC which comes under Central Government.

The doctors, allegedly affiliated with the Central Government’s ESI (Employees’ State Insurance) Hospital, are facing accusations of bias and political influence with the revelation that the director of ESI Hospital, Dr. Jaya Rajamurthy, happens to be the brother of Durga Stalin, who is none other than the wife of Chief Minister, MK Stalin.

The above poster is of an event titled Dravida Seminar on the occasion of the first anniversary of Dravida Samooga Peravai, a Dravidian Stock outfit. In the above seminar, MK Stalin’s brother-in-law Jaya Rajamoorthy is one of the speakers sharing stage with DMK Minister SS Sivasankar,  Dravidian and anti-Hindu ideologue Suba Veerapandian, and Tamil Nadu Planning Commission Vice Chairperson J. Jayaranjan.

The controversy surrounding Senthil Balaji’s health evaluation centers around the refusal of both AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) and JIPMER for his treatment by the DMK.

It is alleged that the DMK citing ESI medical examination is a façade as political influence from Jaya Rajamoorthy cannot be ruled out.

Concerns have been raised about the potential influence and motives that may affect the objectivity of the doctors’ report on Senthil Balaji’s health condition.

The ED too has accused Senthil Balaji of feigning illness to avoid interrogation.

It is noteworthy that Senthil Balaji, a minister in the Tamil Nadu government has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate with regard to his cash-for-jobs scam when he was the Transport Minister in the ADMK regime in 2011-2016 and additional money laundering charges.
Upon his arrest, he started showing symptoms of chest pain and was taken to Omandurar Government Hospital in Chennai. Subsequently, the doctors conducted an angiogram and detected 3 blocks in his arteries and suggested that he undergo bypass surgery on an urgent basis.

“Christian Missionaries Started Assault On Our Culture In 1892, Made British Ban Bharatanatyam”: BJP TN Head Annamalai Says

In a recent cultural event held in Chennai, K Annamalai, the Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party President spoke about the significance of the Tamil language as a spiritual and cultural force. He spoke about the various historical and cultural aspects of Tamil, its classical language status, and the need to foster linguistic diversity and understanding.

Annamalai also highlighted, “The Tamil language was created for God. It is a language that can coexist with spirituality, just as culture coexists with spirituality.” The spiritual roots of Tamil when traced back to its origins show its close association with bhakti literature, such as the renowned Divya Prabandham.

Annamalai also underscored the importance of Tamil’s classical language status, conferred in 2004, emphasizing the language’s rich heritage and timeless significance. He also mentioned the elevation of other South Indian languages, including Sanskrit, to classical language status in 2006.

However, Annamalai expressed disappointment with the treatment of languages other than Tamil in TN, stating, “The Tamil Nadu governments have seemingly shown stepmotherly treatment to another language, despite acknowledging the value of multiple languages. Our children must learn and appreciate all classical languages.”

He recollected a fact from a recent speech he gave at an event where he spoke about Veera Mangai Velu Nachiyar. She exhibited fluency in languages such as Urdu, French, and English during her reign. Annamalai encouraged the audience to embrace multilingualism and explore various languages to broaden their understanding and cultural horizons.

Ban On BharataNatyam

Annamalai later pointed out the cultural challenges faced by Tamil Nadu, including the assault on its traditional art forms.

https://twitter.com/cogitoiam/status/1670750602869997571

Historical accounts highlighted the attempts by Christian missionaries in 1892 to ban dance and music in temples, and later the British ban on Bharatanatyam in 1910. However, Bharatanatyam regained its rightful place in 1930 and is now recognized globally as India’s prominent soft power.

Global Soft Power

Praising the cultural heritage of Tamil Nadu, Annamalai acknowledged, “Bharatanatyam, masala dosa, idli can achieve what 500 IFS officers put together can across the world. Our culture is visible in every corner, be it Birmingham, New York, or Canberra.” He also said, “Although the art form (Bharatanatyam) originated here in TN, this is one art form that has received/garnered global recognition. By training in these art forms, our children can learn to lead cultured lives”.

The importance of promoting unity among languages and fostering cultural exchange was emphasized by Annamalai. He suggested that while Tamil is a remarkable mother tongue, it is essential to appreciate and respect other languages. He also thanked and saluted the prominent figures from the art and cultural world for their contributions to putting Chennai on the global map and enhancing the city’s cultural identity.

Annamalai concluded his speech with the hope to bridge the gap between the thought process of Tamil society and the way it behaves when it comes to politics, and that he aimed for a political landscape that truly reflects the aspirations and values of the people. By achieving this alignment, he said he believed that many societal issues can be effectively addressed.

He also acknowledged the crowd for putting up full attendance at the event despite the availability of numerous entertainment options in the city on a weekend, symbolizing the deep-rooted cultural affinity and reverence towards Tamil traditions and that it affirmed the innate dharmic nature of Tamil culture.

Annamalai was speaking at a Bharatanatyam event, Agre Pasyami, organised by Vedic speaker Dushyant Sridhar, choreographed by eminent danseuse Anita Guha at Narada Gana Sabha in Chennai on 18 June 2023.

DMK Government Awards ₹100+ Crores Contract Despite Accusing Builder Of Substandard Construction

The DMK-led government, which previously criticized PST Engineering Constructions for allegedly constructing substandard buildings in the Pulianthope KP Park housing board tenements colony, has now awarded the company a lucrative contract worth more than ₹100 crore for the construction of the Fintech City.

The first phase of the KP Park Scheme, consisting of 864 dwelling units spread across four blocks with stilt and 9 floors, began construction during the previous AIADMK regime. However, several months ago, residents began reporting issues such as peeling plaster and damages in common areas. In response, the Tamil Nadu Urban Housing and Development Board (TNUHDB) appointed the Centre for Urbanization, Buildings & Environment (CUBE) panel, a body jointly established by IIT Madras and the state government, to inspect the structure. Additionally, the board has enlisted the expertise of 10 educational institutions, including IIT Madras and NIT Trichy, to assess approximately 20 ongoing projects across the state, supplementing the efforts of third-party monitors already appointed to oversee construction quality.

The CUBE panel, known for their expertise in urbanization and construction, identified significant lapses in the construction of the KP Park tenements in Pulianthope. These lapses include the use of M-sand for plastering, raising concerns about the overall quality of the buildings.

In response to these findings, the DMK government vowed to take action against both the builders and the AIADMK ministers responsible for the poorly constructed KP Park buildings. DMK MLA I. Paranthamen raised the issue in a special attention motion in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, urging the government to investigate the involvement of former Chief Minister Panneerselvam, contractors, and other officials of the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board (TNSCB) in the substandard construction of the slum board tenements.

Rural Industries Minister T.M. Anbarasan, who inspected the site alongside HR&CE Minister P.K. Sekar Babu, assured the Assembly that the government would not remain silent on the matter. He emphasized that the Chief Minister would not hesitate to take action against anyone found responsible, be it officials or contractors.

During the inspection, Minister Sekar Babu announced that the government had decided not to award any new contracts to PST Engineering Constructions based on the recommendations of the expert committee.

However, raising eyebrows and sparking allegations of corruption and double standards, the DMK government has now awarded PST Engineering Constructions a hefty contract worth ₹250 crore for the construction of the new Fintech City in Nandambakkam, Chennai.

The DMK government was earlier called out for promoting Sundarrajan, the Executive Engineer (EE) who was allegedly an accomplice in the poor quality buildings of KP Park.

This latest decision has invited criticism from various quarters, questioning the government’s stance on holding the builder accountable for substandard construction while simultaneously awarding them a significant contract. The contradictory actions of the DMK government have raised concerns about transparency, integrity, and the prevalence of corrupt practices in the awarding of contracts.

As public scrutiny intensifies, it remains to be seen how the government will respond to the allegations of favoritism.

Opposition Strategies That Narendra Modi Has To Counter In 2024

Nitish Kumar is tirelessly meeting a lot of leaders to stitch some kind of Mahagathbandhan to fight Narendra Modi in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The opposition leaders’ meeting on June 2023 is a step towards this. Today’s politically evolved voter who has tasted the advantages of a full majority government at the centre and the stability that it brings in, will not prefer to again have a Khichdi government in Delhi with multiple leaders with divergent ideologies joining hands due to their personal agendas. However, PM Modi and team cannot be complacent and have to play it really smart as the opposition parties can go to any lengths to grab power, their only unifying thread being ousting Modi and BJP from the centre. Here are three main strategies that the opposition parties together will apply which can pose a challenge to Narendra Modi.

Irresistible Freebies For All

Plenty of the general public love Modi but when additional money is promised to be put in their pockets sometimes ideologies and righteousness go for a toss. Coming to power for a minimum of five years and stopping the Modi-BJP momentum is more important than actually implementing all the promises to the tee after coming to power. We have seen the hidden “conditions apply” cunningly coming out in every promised scheme post-elections. The opposition parties have tasted success with this strategy and now will unanimously agree to apply this across their states irrespective of their economic implications. Modi’s BJP have to be really creative in 2024 to counter this and might have to announce freebies and tax cuts too although Modi has been talking against the “Revdi” culture but not sure if people are latching on to it. This will be the biggest challenge to PM Modi in 2024.

Consolidating Minorities And Fragmenting Hindus

The opposition parties would want to pocket every single minority vote. This is easy for them as the minorities still do not support Modi at large and would be ready to vote en masse to a united opposition. They make it happen on the voting day with a strong turnout. On the other hand, the strategy would be to secure segments of Hindu votes on the basis of caste by stirring up the community feeling amongst them by promising say a special status for a particular community that has been asking for it or demanding for a caste census, so on and so forth. In this regard, Modi has to depend on strong Hindu consolidated support for which he has to come up with narratives that touch upon things that Hindus hold really close to their hearts and will supersede the pull of freebies. The official opening of the Ram temple in Ayodhya will help to some extent but will not be the only pivot for a strong Hindu consolidation behind him. He has already ridden on that wave earlier.

Solo Opposition Candidate Against BJP In Each Seat

If the opposition parties agree, albeit this being the biggest challenge that they have, to put forward one strongest candidate from one party in each Lok Sabha seat with the other parties agreeing to step down, it will pose a very interesting challenge to Modi’s BJP as they will not have the opponent vote-splitting advantage. The candidate that BJP puts across has to be really popular with an excellent people connect to pull this off.

2024 is going to be a very interesting election and a test for the top political Chanakyas of this age, Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. They can’t depend on the opposition party’s disunity today as when met with existential crisis some of them might be even ready to make sacrifices however painful they may be with the hope that in the future they can make up for it. BJP has to be extremely creative, have a foolproof game plan, an excellent communication strategy, and have to penetrate deeply into states where they have not been successful earlier like in South India. Let’s wait and watch what Narendra Modi brings out of his bag as he has always done in his long and successful political career.

Sexual Harassment Accused Vairamuthu Chosen To Head Karunanidhi Centenary Celebrations In Tiruvarur

Controversy has erupted as the DMK decided to invite lyricist Vairamuthu, who has been accused of sexual harassment by more than a dozen women, to preside over the Karunanidhi Kottam on 20 June 2023.

This decision by the DMK has drawn sharp criticism from the public and raised questions about the party’s stance on accountability and gender justice.

The centenary birth celebrations of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi have been underway, with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin unveiling the logo “Kalaignar 100” on 2 June 2023. The logo represents the years 1924 to 2023, symbolizing the life and legacy of Karunanidhi. The former Governor of West Bengal, Gopalkrishna Gandhi, received the logo during a function held at Kalaivanar Arangam in Chennai.

During the event, Chief Minister Stalin also announced plans to establish a convention center in Chennai, dedicated to the late DMK patriarch, with a seating capacity of 5,000. These celebrations have been taking place district-wise, and in the upcoming event at Tiruvarur, Vairamuthu, who has faced allegations of sexual harassment in the wake of the #MeToo movement, has been chosen to preside over the Karunanidhi centenary poetry hall.

Expressing his anticipation for the event, Vairamuthu took to Twitter, stating his intention to preside at the Karunanidhi Centenary Hall and mentioning his visit to Tiruvarur and Thirukkuvalai, the birthplace of Karunanidhi.

However, his participation in these celebrations has triggered a backlash, particularly from the women who accused him of sexual harassment. They argue that allowing a person facing such serious allegations to take a leading role in celebrating Karunanidhi’s centenary is an insensitive move by the DMK.

This controversy comes on the heels of another recent incident where Vairamuthu was allocated a house under the ‘Dream House’ scheme by the DMK government. The decision to honor Vairamuthu, despite the pending allegations against him, drew criticism and accusations of favoritism.

A few years ago, during the #MeToo movement, singer Chinmayi accused Vairamuthu of sexually harassing her during a professional interaction. Her accusation brought attention to the pervasive issue of workplace harassment and abuse of power in the Tamil film industry. Around 17 women have levelled sexual harassment charges against the lyricist who shares close ties with the DMK. The movement empowered several other women to come forward with their own allegations against Vairamuthu and other individuals in the industry.

The inclusion of Vairamuthu in the Karunanidhi centenary celebrations has reignited the debate surrounding the accountability of alleged perpetrators of sexual harassment and the need for a safer and more inclusive industry. The DMK government’s decision has sparked criticism and has once again raised questions about the party’s commitment to addressing issues of gender justice and supporting survivors of harassment.

As the controversy continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the DMK and other stakeholders will respond to the concerns raised by the public and the victims of sexual harassment, and whether there will be any changes in the planned participation of Vairamuthu in the upcoming centenary event.

Thoothukudi Pentecostal Church Pastor Arrested Under POCSO Act For Sexually Harassing Girl From 14 Years Of Age

A shocking case of prolonged sexual abuse has come to light, resulting in the arrest of pastor Vinod Joshua of Thoothukudi, who has been sexually harassing a girl since she was 14 years old and has continued his sexual abuse even after marriage. The pastor has now been arrested by the police in Madurai under the POCSO Act.

Located near Ottapidaram in the Thoothukudi district, Keezhakottai village is home to the Christian Brethren Church, a Pentecostal congregation. Serving as the pastor in this church was Vinod Joshua, originally from the Vellore district.

Since 2018, Vinod Joshua, 40, has been sexually harassing a 14-year-old girl from the same village. Furthermore, the girl is said to have been forced to have sex several times. The girl was terrified and did not tell anyone because pastor Joshua threatened to kill her and her family if she told anyone outside about the harassment.

In this situation, the girl turned 18 last year and got married. Currently, the woman is 8 months pregnant. However, the unyielding priest Vinod Joshua has been sexually harassing the woman via WhatsApp on her cell phone. Unable to bear the torture further, the victim then filed a complaint with the Kadampur All Women Police Station.

Based on her complaint, the police opened an investigation and found that priest Vinod Joshua had sexually harassed her since she was 14 years old.

Pastor Vinod Joshua, however, has fled the scene after learning of the police investigation. Following this, the police were in search of the absconding priest. In this circumstance, the police detained pastor Vinod Joshua in front of the Madurai Mattuthavani bus stop. Following that, priest Vinod Joshua was apprehended and remanded in judicial custody.

“Coward Stalin Will Be Taught A Befitting Lesson”: BJP Leader SG Suryah Thunders

sg suryah dmk

Tamil Nadu BJP State Secretary SG Suryah was arrested on the intervening night of 16 and 27 June 2023 for his statement against Madurai Communist Party of India (Marxist) MP Su Venkatesan over the death of a hygiene worker who was allegedly forced to clean a faeces-filled drain by a Communist councillor.

In a scathing letter addressed to Madurai MP Su Venkatesan, SG Suryah had alleged that a hygiene worker died due to allergies in the body after a Communist party ward member named Viswanathan forced him to clean the drain.

SG Suryah seems to have been arrested on frivolous charges as he had mentioned Madurai instead of Cuddalore district while lambasting Communist MP Su Venkatesan.

He has been placed under judicial remand till 1 July 2023 and a bail plea has been moved in the Madurai court. The hearing on the bail plea has been adjourned for tomorrow (20 June 2023).

Meanwhile, Suryah who was seen being taken in a police vehicle managed to give a short byte to the media waiting outside.

“Coward Stalin will be taught a befitting lesson”, Suryah said lashing out at Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin.

Several senior leaders of the BJP including Union Ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Rajeev Chandrasekhar, BJP MP Tejasvi Surya, BJP National General Secretary (Org) BL Santhosh have condemned SG Suryah’s arrest.
