TN Police Arrests NTK Cadre For Social Media Post Against Karunanidhi

On 25 October 2023, the police arrested Veerapandi Kumaresan, a member of the Naam Tamilar Katchi, for allegedly posting a defamatory cartoon targeting the late former Chief Minister and DMK patriarch, M. Karunanidhi, on social media. Kumaresan is also facing charges for issuing death threats to DMK functionaries who raised concerns about his controversial post.

The arrest was made following a formal complaint lodged by Murugesan, the Secretary of the 56th ward of Karunkalpatti DMK, with the Chevvaipet police in the district.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the accused, Kumaresan, aged 49 and hailing from Salem Dadagapatti, had previously served as the vice-president of the Salem South Constituency within the Naam Tamil Katchi, led by Seeman. Kumaresan is also known to own an auto parts shop in Salem.

Kumaresan, an active participant on social media, had posted an alleged ‘disparaging’ image of former Chief Minister Karunanidhi, which prompted the DMK IT Wing to file an official complaint at the Salem City Sevvaipet Police Station. Based on this complaint, Kumaresan, a member of the Naam Tamil Party, was brought in for questioning by the police.

As a result of the investigation, Kumaresan was subsequently arrested by the Sevvaipet police department under six sections of the law, which included charges related to the dissemination of defamatory content on social media.

Following his arrest, Kumaresan was presented before the Third Criminal Magistrate’s Court in the Salem Combined Court Complex. Lawyers representing Kumaresan from the Naam Tamil Party requested bail for their client. After deliberation, the judge ordered judicial custody for Kumaresan until the third of November 2023.

The TN Police have been on a spree of arrests with their crackdown on voices speaking against the ruling party.

TN BJP Chief Annamalai Raises Concerns Over Alleged Misappropriation of Temple Funds and Land

In a tweet, the Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party Chief K. Annamalai has accused the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department of attempting to appropriate funds and land belonging to the revered Kapaleeswarar Temple in Mylapore, Chennai, for the construction of a “cultural center”.

Annamalai’s tweet also alleges a series of misappropriations, including encroachment on temple land, diverting temple hundi money, purchasing vehicles using temple funds, and giving cattle donations to the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party.

The Tamil Nadu BJP President expressed grave concerns about the HR&CE Department’s actions, citing that the misappropriation of temple assets contravenes established legal norms. He questioned the DMK’s authority to lay claim to temple funds and land for the establishment of a cultural center when laws explicitly dictate that temple funds should be used solely for temple-related initiatives.

Pointing to specific legal provisions, Annamalai emphasized Sections 36 and 66 of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Act, which mandate the allocation of surplus funds for purposes such as the establishment of Vedic and Agama schools, orphanages, Hindu religious development schools, and the promotion of Hinduism through educational institutions and healthcare facilities. These provisions clearly prohibit the use of surplus funds for constructing commercial utility buildings.

The Tamil Nadu BJP chief accused the HR&CE Department of acting in contravention of these laws, prompting a call for immediate action from the DMK government. Annamalai warned of a potential mass protest if the alleged misappropriation continues unchecked, indicating a rising level of discontent and opposition to what he perceives as an encroachment on the Kapaleeswarar Temple’s assets.

The controversy surrounding the Kapaleeswarar Temple’s funds and land allocation continuously raises fundamental questions about the proper use of resources tied to religious endowments.

DMK MLA Prabhakara Raja Barges Into Government School And Coerces Commerce Students To Sign Anti-NEET Petition

Virugambakkam MLA Prabhakar Raja of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has come under scrutiny for allegedly pressuring government school students to endorse an anti-NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) campaign.

DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin’s son Udhayanidhi Stalin, who is also a Minister in his father’s cabinet launched a signature campaign against NEET calling for its withdrawal.

In a video circulated in social media, the school’s headmaster can be seen introducing the DMK’s anti-NEET campaign to students, calling it an obstacle to students’ medical aspirations due to disparities in the curriculum.

No matter how much you score in Class 12, they’re not giving MBBS seat based on that. There is this exam called NEET. For that exam, there is additional syllabus than our existing syllabus. So, we’re not able to write for that syllabus. Hence, our students are not able to pass in that exam. Our government (DMK government) is taking continuous efforts to abolish NEET. You might’ve seen in TV, our Chief Minister and other Ministers including School Education Minister are continuously for the past 2-3 years are saying that we don’t want NEET.“, the headmaster says.

The headmaster further cited Udhayanidhi Stalin’s call for a signature campaign to oppose NEET. When he inquired with the students about who had recently made headlines by addressing this matter, anticipating a resounding chorus of “Udhayanidhi Stalin,” the students instead appeared perplexed and gave no clear response.

What did our Sports Minister Udhyanidhi Stalin speak about NEET? Nobody is watching TV News is it?“, the dejected headmaster asks and goes on to elaborate about Udhayanidhi Stalin’s signature campaign against NEET.

MLA Prabhakar Raja then takes the stage and reiterates the DMK’s stance, asserting that entrance exams like NEET should be abolished.

What class is going on now?” asks the DMK MLA to which the students respond “commerce”. It is noteworthy to mention that commerce group students do not study the subjects (physics, chemistry and biology) which is required for NEET. Having realized the fiasco, the DMK MLA goes on to say “The subject you are studying is not going to make you doctors. But in our society we need doctors. Fever, headache, in this new age, there are new diseases coming isn’t it?

He draws parallels with the removal of engineering entrance exams during his college days, crediting the DMK for that move. Raja also can be heard criticizing the growth of expensive coaching institutes that prey on NEET aspirants.

Furthermore, Raja highlighted that Tamil Nadu stands as a solitary state vehemently opposing NEET, with a significant number of medical seats and doctors. He argued that a substantial 40% percentage of foreign nationals flock to India for medical facilities, in that nearly 30% depend only on Tamil Nadu’s medical system.

Raja then goes on to emotionally instigate students invoking the tragic case of Anitha, a student who took her own life due to the NEET controversy. He stated that despite achieving a high score of 1200 in her 12th-grade examinations, Anitha’s “dreams of becoming a doctor were thwarted by the NEET system”.

The MLA further instigated students to participate in the DMK’s signature campaign and become advocates against NEET.

Critics have accused Prabhakar Raja of exploiting the impressionable minds of students for political gain, characterizing his actions as “cheap politics” within the school premises.

DU Prof, Wife Of The Wire’s Founder Editor Who Is A US Citizen Signs Letter Which Blames Israel For Hamas Terrorist Attack

In a development that could land The Wire’s Founding Editor Siddharth Varadarajan in trouble, his wife Nandini Sundar who is a professor at Delhi University has signed a letter which blames Israel for the dastardly attack that was carried out by the Hamas terrorists on innocent civilians.

The letter which is now in circulation strongly implies that the raping of women and killing of children must be “contextualized” to give normalcy to the carnage that was perpetrated by Hamas terrorists.

Titled “Sociologists in Solidarity with Gaza and the Palestinian People”, the letter signed by wife of Siddharth Varadarajan says “Sociology as a discipline is rooted in a recognition of relationships of power and inequality. As sociologists and human beings, we unreservedly condemn the latest violence against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank at the hands of the Israeli regime.”

The letter goes on to state that the government of Israel has imposed a complete siege on Gaza, which is one of the most densely populated areas on Earth with 2.1 million residents, including 1.7 million refugees. The letter accuses Israel of targeting the civilian population of Gaza, using dehumanizing language to describe them. It also blames Israel for dropping thousands of bombs on Gaza, hitting various targets, including hospitals and ambulances, using white phosphorus munitions banned by the United Nations, and cutting off essential supplies like water, food, and electricity.

It says, “Over the past seven days, the government of Israel has undertaken, in its own words, a “complete siege” of Gaza—the second most densely populated place on the planet, home to 2.1 million residents, of which 1.7 million are refugees. While claiming its actions are a justifiable response to recent Hamas violence against Israeli civilians, it has targeted the civilian Palestinian population of Gaza, while exhibiting little regard for the loss of human life. Using racist and dehumanizing language, Israel’s Defence Minister, Yoav Gallant, remarked, “We are fighting human animals and we act accordingly.”

It further went on to blame Israel for dropping bombs and cutting of water, food and electricity supply. The letter asserts that these actions amount to collective punishment.

“In just ten days, Israel has dropped over 6,000 bombs on Gaza, hit the Rafah crossing on the border to Egypt several times, targeted hospitals and ambulances, members of the press, universities, United Nations’ schools and relief offices, and used white phosphorus, a highly flammable munition that the United Nations has banned for use in dense civilian areas. Israeli forces have also cut off water, food, electricity, and medical supplies, which has pushed hospitals to a breaking point. This is an act of collective punishment, in contravention of international law, which threatens the lives of over two million people, half of whom are children, with unimaginable violence and displacement. As of writing, over 2,950 Palestinians have been murdered, including a staggering 1,030 children, and over 11,250 injured.”, the letter says.

It further goes on to say “Israel’s military campaign has also displaced nearly half of Gaza’s population. It has unconscionably demanded that 1.1 million residents relocate from Northern to Southern Gaza in 24 hours, while simultaneously bombing caravans of those attempting to evacuate, and continuing to bomb the Southern part of Gaza. Calls for “evacuation” parallel the military offenses of 1948 and 1967, when Palestinians were forced to leave their homes and never allowed to return. The majority of people in Gaza are long-term refugees, and now again face genocide and ethnic cleansing. At the same time, Israeli settlers across the West Bank, recently armed by the Israeli government with 10,000 assault rifles, have targeted Palestinian civilians, with over 50 already murdered and two villages depopulated in the last week.

The letter condemns the international community for supporting what it calls genocide, particularly the financial aid from the United States and the European Union’s support for Israel.

We are witnessing internationally supported genocide. This latest siege comes as a continuation and escalation of the daily violence Palestinians faced for decades from Israeli colonization; an apartheid regime whose occupation is in clear violation of international law, but persists with the support of powerful governments globally. In 2023 alone, the United States has sent $3.8 billion to prop up the Israeli military and consistently legitimized Israel’s human rights violations on a global stage. The European Union too has brazenly supported Israel’s aggression, while failing to reflect on the historical irony to “never again” commit genocide.“, it says.

It also expresses concern about the “rise in anti-Palestinian and anti-Muslim sentiments” and violence globally saying “Furthermore, the dehumanizing language used by heads of state, military leaders, and journalists throughout the West, has begun to increase anti-Palestinian and anti-Muslim sentiment and violence. This has already led to horrible consequences, like the stabbing murder of Wadea Al-Fayoume, a six-year old Palestinian American child, a hate crime against a Sikh teen, and increased harassment of pro-Palestinian voices around the globe.

“We join people around the world who are raising their voices in protest of this assault on human life. As educators, it is our duty to stand by the principles of critical inquiry and learning, to hold the university as a space for conversation that foregrounds historical truths, and that contextualizes this past week’s violence in the context of 75 years of settler colonial occupation and European empire. We are also deeply troubled by the lack of concern and care for Palestinian and Muslim students at many of our universities, as well as efforts to clamp down on student organizing and free speech. We cannot sit back and witness the continuation of this genocidal war. We demand that our governments push for an immediate ceasefire. This stance follows in the tradition of the civil rights movement, anti-war and anti-apartheid protests of decades past. Aligning ourselves with these freedom struggles, we call on all of our colleagues to stand in solidarity with Palestinians and against settler colonialism, imperialism, and genocide.”, the letter concludes.

Here is a list of sociologists from India/Indian-origin who have signed that letter:

Rashid Rapes Differently-Abled 80-Year-Old Lady In Kottayam

A case of brutal and extreme act of cruelty has come forth in Kottayam, Kollam where a Muslim youth has been arrested for abducting and raping a differently-abled 80-year-old woman while she was asleep.

The Kerala police detained one Rashid from Oyyur village in the Kottarakara Taluk for the heinous crime, reports the Hindu Post.

A disabled woman, who relied on begging for her livelihood, was sleeping in front of a shop when Rashid committed a heinous act against her at night. He kidnapped and sexually assaulted her, showing no compassion despite her physical disabilities. After subjecting her to brutal torture, Rashid abandoned the partially unclothed victim on the road and fled the scene.

In a shocking incident that occurred at one o’clock on a Friday morning, this elderly woman, who had lost parts of her arms and legs, suffered injuries to her arms and head. Disturbingly, Rashid was relentless in his assault, both physically and sexually.

Following the incident, CCTV footage capturing the horrific abuse of the woman was made public. Subsequent investigation confirmed Rashid as the perpetrator. The footage showed him approaching the victim, attempting to undress her. When the woman woke up and resisted, Rashid repeatedly struck her in the head, causing her to fall to the ground. He then took her with him.

The next morning, the lady was discovered partially undressed and in a pool of blood at a desolate location near Sithara Junction, approximately one and a half kilometers away. She was first spotted by a temple Poojari and an auto driver who arrived at the nearby temple in the morning. They provided her with clothing and took her to the hospital. The victim’s son was alerted by a watchman, who then reported the incident to the police.

Despite a significant increase in crimes against women and children in recent times, the ruling Green Communists in Kerala continue to assert that the state leads in women’s safety. Criminals appear to have lost their fear, as law and order appear to be in disarray. There are concerns that Rashid may receive a lenient prison sentence and could potentially pose a threat once again on the streets in the near future.

Petrol Bomb Hurled At Tamil Nadu Governor House, Same Person Had Earlier Petrol-Bombed TN BJP Office

In a shocking incident that indicates the plight of law and order under the DMK government, two petrol bombs petrol bomb were hurled towards the main gate of the Raj Bhavan in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Notably, this individual had previously thrown petrol bombs outside Kamalalayam (BJP Tamil Nadu headquarter) a few months ago.

The perpetrator of the terror act has been identified as ‘Karukka’ Vinod. Reports have stated that Vinod is a history sheeter with a track record of violence.

Vinoth pilfered gasoline from the motorcycles parked within the Saidapet Court premises. Subsequently, he proceeded to Raj Bhavan, where he transferred the stolen gasoline into two containers, ignited them, and then hurled them at the primary entrance of Raj Bhavan.

According to officials, the incident occurred at approximately 2:45 pm on Wednesday, with Vinod endeavoring to throw the bomb in the vicinity of the main gate of Raj Bhavan, frequently used by Governor RN Ravi.

A team of forensic experts investigated the place by collecting the fragments of the bomb shattered over the place.

Tamil Nadu police department which comes under the ambit of Chief Minister MK Stalin has however scheduled for a “mental health evaluation” but noted that an imminent arrest is likely.

This event is occurring in the context of the Tamil Nadu governor returning a state government proposal for the appointment of former Director General of Police C Sylendra Babu as the chairman of the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission. Notably, this is the second time the governor has declined this recommendation. When the initial recommendation was submitted shortly after Mr. Babu’s retirement at the end of June, Mr. Ravi had raised questions about the selection criteria for Mr. Babu and other candidates for the position. He also sought clarification on whether the guidelines of the Supreme Court had been adhered to.

Earlier in February 2022, ‘Karukka’ Vinod had petrol-bombed the BJP Tamil Nadu headquarters located in T. Nagar, Chennai.

Back then Tamil mainstream media quoting police sources had reported the incident peddling that the said Vinod committed the act to protest against BJP’s position on NEET.

The BJP had demanded a probe by the National Investigative Agency (NIA) after several reports of attack against party’s cadres. The party also complained about the need for the police to clean the place before forensics team collected evidence.

CPI-M MP Su Venkatesan Peddles Lies About Fin Min, Gets Schooled By BJP Leader SG Suryah On Write Offs

In a post on social media platform X, Madurai MP and State Secretary of the CPIM, Su Venkatesan has peddled lies claiming an RTI query to the Reserve Bank of India disclosed that during the NDA regime loans worth ₹25 lakh crores were written off. He claimed that ₹34,192 crores were written off during Manmohan Singh’s tenure and ₹2.77 lakh crore per annum under the Modi regime.

Dr. SG Suryah, the State Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party, gave a befitting response to the tweet posted by Su Venkatesan where he busted all the lies and also schooled him on the basics of finance, starting with defining a write-off.

He wrote, “Dear Su Venkatesan, don’t rely on unverified RTI based reporting. Free Press Journal hasn’t shared the RTI which disclosed this amount. So, probably it’s #FakeNews! Also here are few basic tutorials, I’m sure you won’t understand any of it – so seek experts’ help to brief you on this.

Explaining about write-off, the BJP Tamil Nadu State Secretary said “A “write-off” refers to the process of legally removing bad loans from the books of accounts, effectively cleaning the balance sheet. Despite being written off, efforts to recover from these accounts continue.

He further explained why were loans being written off in the first place saying “During the Congress era, the banking sector faced a crisis due to various issues, including the phone banking scam, twin balance sheet problem, and mismanagement of the banking sector. This allowed several industrialists with ties to Congress to secure loans without proper due diligence, many of which were not repaid. Under the Modi government, it was discovered that numerous capitalists had not repaid their loans, leading to these loans becoming non-performing assets (NPAs). In response, the Modi government took action against these defaulters by seizing their assets. To maintain their balance sheets, banks wrote off these loans. Even Raghuram Rajan, who has ties to the Congress, acknowledged that “most of the NPA loans are from the Congress era.”

Suryah also elaborated on the action taken against the defaulters and its results. He said “Under the Modi government’s leadership, a stringent approach has been taken against defaulters, resulting in the recovery of over ₹10 lakh crores in the last nine years. Notably, Public Sector Banks (PSBs) have experienced an exponential surge in growth, as evidenced by their impressive profit of more than ₹1 lakh crore in FY 2023. PM Modi government’s dedicated efforts to revitalize the banking sector have yielded positive results, effectively rectifying the issues created during the Congress era.

Suryah also lashed out at propagandists masquerading as journalists for misleading people by peddling lies and half-truths.

He said “Low IQ Propaganda Journalists need a refresher course in economics before publishing incorrect & misleading information. It can be seen that the cumulative sum of ₹24.95 lakh crore of the written-off loans has been arrived at by adding the figures for public sector banks (PSBs) & Scheduled Commericial Banks (SCBs), which is incorrect & thoroughly misleading.”

Suryah pointed out that as per RBI data, SCBs, during the last nine financial years, have written off an aggregate loan of ₹14.56 lakh crore, which includes loans of ₹10.42 lakh crore written off by public sector banks.

Any data of PSBs are just a subset of SCBs data. The Low IQ journalist just did double counting. For instance, it’s like adding Tamil Nadu’s population to India’s population and arriving at a bigger figure. India’s population obviously includes Tamil Nadu’s population. TN is a subset of India. It seems to have been deliberately done to attract attention & create sensationalism. And appalling that our low IQ MPs like you Mr. Su Venkatesan blindly rely on them. What can one do when Pappu is at the helm of affairs. Perhaps one should read more on the classification of the banks in India??“, Dr. Suryah came down heavy on the Communist MP.

Su Venkatesan also received replies from well-meaning and educated X users who schooled him on the issue and called out his bluffs.

Some even questioned him whether he knew and understood the basic difference between a waive-off and a write-off.

Time and again members of the I.N.D.I.Alliance spew lies and peddle certain propaganda against the central government, most often without any knowledge of the subject and the issue they are accusing the government of supposedly hoodwinking the nation. Along with the political party members, journalists are also seen peddling a similar agenda. One among them was Karthigaichelvan from News18, who was with the Puthiyathalaimurai channel, repeatedly questioned Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on the write-off without knowing the meaning of the word.

“Robert Caldwell Was A School Dropout”: TN Guv RN Ravi Rips Apart The Founder Of Dravidian Ideology

Speaking at a private IAS training academy in Trichy commemorating the death anniversary of freedom fighters – the Marudhu brothers, Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi paid a heartfelt tribute to the freedom fighters. He commended the Marudhu Brothers for their pivotal role in kindling the flame of India’s independence and highlighted their significant contribution to the Jambudweep declaration.

Governor Ravi also raised questions about the government’s approach, suggesting that even legendary figures like Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Sardar Patel, and Shaheed Bhagat Singh might have been reduced to caste icons/leaders if they had been born in the state.

British Design To Divide People

Speaking on the British design to divide the people, he spoke about Robert Caldwell and the Aryan-Dravidian theory.

He said, “An attempt has been made and a concerted attempt has been made in this in this state to erase the history of this place, to write a parallel history of this place. They have created a false narrative of racial divide, Dravidian-Aryan race but by the way, who was the father of this Theory who gave this Dravidian theory, that Dravidian is a separate race, who gave it, it was Robert Cardwell. Robert Caldwell was the one who wrote the grammar of the Dravidian language and he tried to create a theory and a hypothesis that Dravidians are a separate race. By the way, do you know who was Robert Caldwell? I think many of you might not be aware I have done the study I have gone to London I have studied there about the background of all these people. In 1813 British Parliament made a law British Parliament made a law that is called the India Charter Act 1813. Under that charter which was about what the British would do in India, one of the mandates of the British government was to evangelise India, to kill the culture and spirituality of India, section 13 of India Charter Act 1813, those of you who are students, go and look into the Act. Evangelisation of India was an Act of the British Parliament. And after that, they started looking for volunteers who’d come with the missionaries in this country. Educated people with job prospects did not like to come. They had better opportunities there. And even if they came to India, they came as an employee of the company and later the British government where they were better paid. So what they started doing? They started picking up school dropouts – Robert Caldwell was a school dropout, he was not even 17 years of age, he could not clear his school examination, never went to a college or university. He came here and he over time somehow became an expert in languages. He wrote the grammar of the Dravidian language and he said that it is a different language and a different race. It was the British design to divide this country, it was the British design to fragment it into as many pieces as possible and more so when the national freedom movement started, they became far more active. It was at that point in time, that they started picking up collaborators, those who could help them, those who could work with them and help defeat the National Freedom Movement and see that the British continued here.”

Robert Caldwell & Dravidian Ideology

The Aryan-Dravidian Racist Theory, originally advocated by Christian Padres and the British Government, served as a convenient platform for prominent figures within the Dravidian Movement to advocate for the creation of a separate Tamil Nation. Leaders such as EVR, Annadurai, and Karunanidhi, all proponents of Dravidian racial ideologies, held Robert Caldwell in high regard, even considering him akin to a God. They extensively employed his unfounded Dravidian theories to support their campaign for a separate Tamil Nation.

Collaborators In India

He also added that the “idols” worshipped today had gone to London asking the British not to grant India freedom. He said, “On record, some of these people, those who are worshipped today here, had gone to London and presented a memorandum not to give freedom to India. These are forgotten chapters of history. But be sure these are not lost all these documents are there, these are available. And so all through the National Freedom Movement they started counter Freedom Movement and counter Freedom Movement was built around this Aryan-Dravidian divide and domination of the Aryan, domination of the north and so they started destroying the institutions that had defined this place. I have always maintained Tamil Nadu is a punyabhumi this is a land of great spiritual leaders, siddhars, and rishis.”

No Proper Recognition For Freedom Fighters In TN

In a poignant statement, Governor Ravi lamented that he received a list of just 40 Tamil Nadu freedom fighters, which shockingly omitted the mention of the Marudhu brothers. He questioned how a state with such a profoundly rich historical legacy could have recognized so few freedom fighters, especially when compared to smaller states like Nagaland, which boasts over a thousand such heroes.

Governor Ravi also expressed his remorse regarding the prohibitory order imposed in 2012. This order limited public gatherings in the Sivaganga district, where the Marudhu brothers had played a pivotal role in the revolt against the British. Consequently, the act of honouring their sacrifices has been relegated to a private affair.

Jambudweep Declaration

Governor Ravi also added that when he visited Delhi and other places, he tried to educate people that the first major battle for India’s freedom wasn’t in 1857, but in 1801. Governor Ravi acknowledged that the Marudhu brothers, pioneers in India’s fight for freedom, were among the earliest to spark the national movement for independence. They sacrificed their lives and established a visionary framework known as “Jambudweep Prakatanam”(declaration) for the entire nation and this declaration was enshrined in the Srirangam temple in Tiruchirappalli.

He said he was astonished at how the Marudhu Brothers created a plan to free all of India, formed alliances with other rulers, and became a strong force against the British and more importantly the Jambudweep Declaration. He said, it was sad that there weren’t many academic studies about these heroes, but there were over 5000 PhDs about certain Dravidian ideologies. He also added that when he looked at these PhD theses, he found that they seemed more like propaganda than genuine research. It was like a way to get a job as a professor – do a Ph.D., tell the story they wanted to hear and get hired. He regretted that he couldn’t find a single Ph.D. thesis about the Marudhu brothers, although some people had done their own research. He said he wished more people studied and researched the lives and times of these great individuals. Their lives reflected the terrible things the British did to our society. He also added that he was happy because some people still remember the Marudhu Brothers.

Congress Mouthpiece National Herald Calls Vegetarianism As Food Terrorism, Vilifies Gujaratis

On the 24th of October, Sujata Anandan, the editor of the National Herald, a publication associated with the Congress party and facing serious fraud allegations, published an article that promoted prejudice against the Gujarati and Jain communities residing in Mumbai. In her piece, she referred to the dietary choices of Jains and Gujaratis in Mumbai as “food terrorism.”

In her article titled ‘Dietary apartheid: Mumbai gets a taste of food terrorism,’ Sujata Anandan contended, “Fish and rice are the staple of Maharashtrians, and they don’t see why they should alter their diet to accommodate newer residents, such as Gujaratis who have an aversion to even the scent of fish.”

She further vilified the Gujarati community in her article, recounting various incidents that she labeled as “food terrorism,” accusing Gujaratis and Jains in Mumbai of targeting Marathis based on their food habits. She went on to describe an incident in a Mumbai suburb where Gujaratis allegedly resorted to aggressive actions, including dumping garbage, dog feces, and cow dung at the doors of Marathi residents, leading to the ostracization of the Marathi family and their forced eviction from the building, with the majority of society supporting the Gujaratis.

She also mentioned, “This kind of food terrorism began in the late 1980s when former Prime Minister Morarji Desai forced the closure of a non-vegetarian restaurant in his building, claiming that the odors disturbed his tranquillity.”

Under the guise of advocating for the rights of Marathis in Mumbai, Sujata Anandan appeared to be pushing an agenda aimed at dividing Hindus along lines of caste and regional identities and now for a while, the left-liberal is also using food as a method of dividing and rule. The most recent example is the incident that took place in IIT Bombay.

She cited social media posts by young Maharashtrians targeting Gujarati traders and priests, calling for their expulsion from Mumbai and Maharashtra. She also highlighted the original inhabitants of Mumbai, including Kolis (fishermen), Agris (builders of Mumbai during British rule), and Pathare Prabhus (contributors to the city’s culture).

It’s worth noting that Sujata Anandan had previously made controversial statements about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and faced legal action for her remarks. Now, by labeling the dietary choices of Jains, Gujaratis, and other upper-caste Hindus as “food terrorism” and claiming to represent the non-vegetarian sections of the Marathi community, she is contributing to social divisions among different communities residing in Mumbai. Sujata Anandan serves as the editor of the National Herald, a publication facing allegations of fraud associated with the Congress party.

Degrees Held Hostage: TNTEU’s Printer Debacle Leaves Over 3 Lakh TN Teachers’ Careers In Limbo

A puzzling administrative lapse at the Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University (TNTEU) has left over three lakh teachers, who successfully completed their B.Ed courses, waiting for their degree certificates for an astonishing three years. The reason for this delay? Surprisingly, the TNTEU has been without a functional printer to print out these certificates!

TNIE report indicates that TNTEU failed to provide convocation certificates to students from 650 colleges belonging to the 2018-19, 2019-2020, and 2020-2021 batches due to its inability to print the certificates. Sources have revealed that TNTEU recently procured printers at a cost of ₹30 lakh, assuring that the certificates will be issued without further delay.

Speaking to TNIE, an assistant professor from a government B.Ed college expressed frustration over this prolonged delay, pointing out the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) instruction in 2022 to award degrees within 180 days of declaring results. TNTEU’s three-year lag in complying with this directive reflects, in their view, a lethargic attitude and inefficient administration.

The university has also been grappling with a vacant vice-chancellor post for the past two years, contributing to the delays and administrative shortcomings. Students and graduates have been greatly affected by this unfortunate situation, with job seekers facing particular difficulties.

The principal of a private B.Ed college shared that graduates have been making relentless inquiries to institutions, seeking their long-overdue degree certificates. The delay has also had tangible consequences for job seekers, as several private schools have reportedly reduced teacher salaries by 50% for those lacking their degree certificates.

C. Vidhya, a B.Ed graduate from 2019-2020, spoke to TNIE and recounted her struggles in job interviews, where her provisional certificate was insufficient to secure a teaching position. She noted that one school had rejected her application solely due to the absence of her B.Ed degree certificate. The situation is echoed by P. Roslin, who completed her B.Ed in 2020-2021, expressing the hardships graduates face when attending certificate verification processes for government job applications after successfully passing competitive exams.

In response to these concerns, TNTEU’s Vice-Chancellor Committee member, P. Natesan, stated that steps were initiated a few months ago to acquire printers. The process of printing degree certificates has now been finalized, and these certificates are expected to be delivered to 650 colleges, encompassing both government and aided institutions, by 31 October 2023.
