Ancient temple near Coimbatore lies in neglect, HR&CE turns blind eye

The people of Avinashi near Coimbatore have demanded that the Sundaramoorthy Nayanar Temple, associated with the Avinashilingeswarar temple near Avinashi be demolished and rebuilt. The Avinashi Avinashilingeswarar Temple is one of the most famous and historically significant temples in Coimbatore district.

On the way to Mangalam, is the Sundaramoorthy Nayanar Temple which is associated with the history of the Avinashilingeswarar Temple. In the past, the temple was visited by local devotees and foreigners. Hostels were also set up near the temple for the devotees and visitors to stay.

The temple and the hostels near the temple are now in a state of despair as the number of devotees visiting the temple has decreased over time. Currently, the temple is in a dilapidated condition without any maintenance. The main wall and the outer wall of the temple has given out cracks and is on the verge of crumbling.

Inside the temple, the wall at the threshold which is on the verge of falling apart has been covered with an iron barrier. No action has been taken despite devotees complaining to authorities. The people of the area have demanded that the authorities rebuild this historic temple and preserve its antiquity.
