A 16-year-old boy who went missing on Sunday was found dead in a pond near the Anaiyur sewage pumping station in Madurai on Monday. Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death, as reported in The Hindu.
According to preliminary information, the boy had left his house on Sunday with his friends. Police suspect that he may have drowned while playing in the pond.
However, investigators are also examining whether the boy’s friendship with a girl from another caste had any connection to his death.
The Koodal Pudur police have registered a case and are investigating the incident from multiple angles. Police are examining how the boy reached the pond and whether he drowned accidentally or died by suicide or homicide.
The exact cause of death is expected to be established after the post-mortem examination report is received.
