In a dramatic turn of events, a 27-year-old woman from Trichy staged a dharna protest in the middle of the road in front of the Villupuram Collector’s Office Perunditta Complex, alleging sexual assault under the pretext of marriage by a celebrity.
The woman, identified as YouTuber Girija from Trichy, shared her harrowing experience with the police. According to Girija, she had come to Villupuram for personal work and contacted Sabu Vignesh, a member of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, to arrange accommodation. However, the man who assisted her in booking a hotel room allegedly sexually assaulted her and claimed they were going to get married. Shockingly, further investigation revealed that the accused was already married.
When Girija confronted him about his marital status, she alleged that he threatened to harm her. Despite filing a complaint with the Villupuram all-women police station, Girija claimed that no action was taken.
Subsequently, during an attempt by the police and women constables to bring her in for questioning, a scuffle ensued, leading to a temporary disruption in traffic. The woman, who resisted being taken into custody, accused the women constables of using force and claimed that they grabbed her by the arms and legs.
Eventually, she was taken to the Villupuram women’s police station for further inquiry. The dharna protest caused a brief disturbance in the area, impacting traffic flow for a certain period. The incident sheds light on the challenges faced by victims in seeking justice and the need for a thorough investigation into the allegations raised by Girija.
