Usilampatti farmer commits suicide after VCK member threatens him

A farmer near Usilampatti in Madurai has committed suicide after being threatened by members of the Vidudhalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), headed by Thirumavalavan.

Sahadevan hails from Ramanathapuram next to Usilampatti in Madurai. The 45-year-old has been farming for the last two decades. There was a dispute that came up in connection with the purchase of a property between him and Muthuveeran from the same village. In this situation, some members of the VCK had threatened Sahadevan. Distraught by this, he tried to commit suicide by consuming poison 5 days ago.

Relatives who rescued him rushed Sahadevan to the hospital. But despite treatment, Sahadevan passed away. His relatives who were outraged by this staged a roadblock demanding the immediate arrest of members of the Vidudhalai Chiruthaigal Katchi responsible for Sahadevan’s suicide. The protesters suddenly blocked the car of Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneer Selvam who was on his way to Theni from Thirumangalam.

The police immediately arrested the protestors and took them away. This caused a stir in the area for quite some time. This incident in which has caused a great deal of consternation in the area.
