Two Ugandans caught with heroin worth ₹ 68 crore in Delhi airport

Two Ugandan nationals coming from Entebebe via Doha by flight QR-578 were intercepted by Air Customs officials at Indira Gandhi International Airport at Delhi on Sunday. A search of the checked-in bags of the two passengers led to the discovery of fifty one pouches containing a white powdery substance, suspected to be narcotics. Further examination revealed it to be heroin. The seized narcotics weighed a total of 9.8 kg and have a street value of approximately ₹ 68 crore.

The passengers were detained and charged under sections 21, 23 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and the Customs Act, 1962.

The drug haul is believed to be one of the biggest detection of narcotics at any international airport in the country. Further investigations in the matter are pending.
