Chennai police have registered a case against three men, including a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) functionary, for allegedly abusing a woman police constable and a Sub-Inspector while they were in an intoxicated state in Ayanavaram, as reported in Dinamani.
The incident occurred on Sunday, 13 September 2026, after the Tirupati Thirukkudai procession passed through Ayanavaram. Hundreds of police personnel had been deployed for security during the procession. After the event ended, police personnel began returning home.
At the time, a group of youths were allegedly consuming alcohol and creating a disturbance near a petrol bunk. A woman police constable who had completed her security duty noticed them and asked them to leave the area. The men allegedly responded by abusing her with obscene and derogatory remarks.
The woman constable subsequently informed the Ayanavaram police station. A male Sub-Inspector reached the spot and confronted the group. The men allegedly abused the Sub-Inspector as well before leaving the area.
Based on the woman constable’s complaint, Ayanavaram police examined CCTV footage and identified the three men as Madhanraj (33), an engineering graduate and gym trainer from C.K. Street in Ayanavaram, Mohammed Sahabudeen (33), and Sridhar Raj (33), a lawyer, both from the same locality.
Madhanraj was a TVK functionary and served as the party’s Villivakkam deputy secretary.
Police sources said efforts were initially made to settle the matter after Madhanraj’s political affiliation came to light. The three men were brought before the woman police constable, apologised for their conduct, and she was persuaded to withdraw her complaint. The men were subsequently allowed to leave.
However, a formal complaint was obtained regarding the alleged abuse of the Sub-Inspector. Police then registered a case against all three men under four sections, including provisions relating to obstructing a public servant from discharging official duty.
The case has been registered against the three men and further investigation is underway.
