
A special one-day heritage tour called the Ponniyin Selvan trail, launched by Tamil Nadu Tourism under the TVK government, is set to take participants through locations associated with the world of Kalki Krishnamurthy’s celebrated historical novel Ponniyin Selvan.
The tour, scheduled for 13 September 2026, will begin and end in Thanjavur and is designed around the epic journey of Vallavarayan Vanthiyathevan, one of the central characters in the novel.
The itinerary covers several historic locations across the Thanjavur region, including Veeranaryanan Lake, Udayarkudi, Kadambur, Kumbakonam, Natham Kovil, Pazhayarai, Thirupurambiyam, Udayalur and the Thanjavur temple.
According to the event poster, the tour will run from 6 am to 8 pm and will be conducted using air-conditioned transportation. Breakfast, lunch and dinner, along with an expert-led tour, are included in the package.
The itinerary is intended to offer participants a day-long journey through the historical landscape associated with the Chola period and the locations featured in or connected with the narrative of Ponniyin Selvan.
The tour is priced at ₹2,000 per person. Registration is being offered on a limited-seat basis.
