TVK Ally CPI-M Opposes Vijay Govt’s Move To Grant Govt Jobs To Karur Stampede Victims

TVK Ally CPI(M) Urges Joseph Vijay Govt To Halt Karur Stampede Victims' Job Appointments

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay is scheduled to visit Karur on 10 July, during which he is expected to hand over government job appointment orders to 32 members of the families of those who died in the Karur crowd crush, as reported in Vikatan.

However, ahead of the visit, CPI(M) Tamil Nadu State Secretary P. Shanmugam has urged the state government to put the appointments on hold, arguing that the decision could raise questions while the investigation into the tragedy is still underway.

In a statement, Shanmugam recalled that 41 people had lost their lives in the crowd crush that occurred during Chief Minister Vijay’s earlier visit to Karur.

“The Tamil Nadu government has now announced that it will provide government jobs to the families of those who lost their lives. Since the deaths occurred during a TVK campaign event, a legitimate question arises as to whether the TVK government is using its authority to provide these jobs,” he said.

He further pointed out that the investigation into the deaths of the 41 victims was still in progress and argued that such announcements before the conclusion of the probe could dilute the nature of the case.

“The political party concerned taking responsibility and securing employment for the affected families in private companies is one thing. Providing government jobs is entirely different,” Shanmugam said.

The CPI(M) leader urged the Tamil Nadu government to formulate comprehensive guidelines governing the grant of government employment to victims of tragedies and the families of those who lose their lives in such incidents.

“Until such guidelines are framed, the government should suspend the announcement regarding these appointments,” he said.

According to reports, Chief Minister Vijay is expected to distribute government appointment orders to 32 beneficiaries from the affected families during his visit to Karur on Thursday.
