TN Deputy Opp Leader Panneerselvam takes on DMK over ‘Union Govt’ and ‘Jai Hind’ issue, asks Stalin to take steps to expunge MLA’s remarks

In a statement issued on Sunday (July 4), Deputy Leader of Opposition O. Panneerselvam expressed his displeasure over the recent events about the DMK government referring to the Government of India as ‘Union Government’ and the remarks made by the DMK ally MLA Eswaran on Jai Hind.

The senior AIADMK leader said that Tamil Nadu was the birth place of  freedom fighter Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar who had proclaimed that ‘nationalism’ and ‘spiritualism’ were his two eyes and that people are wondering whether the state under the DMK rule is deviating from the national course looking at the recent anti-national activities.

Taking a jibe at MK Stalin who had said during his election campaign that the DMK would do both what was promised and not promised, O. Panneerselvam asked whether the usage of ‘union government’ and the absence of ‘Jai Hind’ was was part of the agenda that was not promised by the DMK.

He also explained how ‘Union of States’ refers to the territory of India and not the Government of India citing the Constitution. He also said that the DMK is trying to belittle the unity, integrity and sovereignty of the Indian nation by referring to the Indian Government as ‘Union Government’.

Panneerselvam said that while the absence of ‘Jai Hind’ from the Governor’s address could have happened by mistake, the DMK ally MLA referring to the omission as a proud moment for Tamil Nadu was severely condemnable.

He also elaborated on how Jai Hind was the patriotic cry given out by freedom fighters from Tamil Nadu like Tirupur Kumaran. He said that the MLA Eswaran’s remarks disrespecting this slogan was reprehensible and that CM Stalin should take steps to expunge the MLA’s remarks from Assembly records.

Panneerselvam also said that DMK government must focus on fulfilling the promises made in its manifesto instead of trying to peddle such anti-national rhetoric.
