“The Kerala Story”: Gripping Trailer Minces No Words In Calling Out Islamic Terrorism

The trailer of the much-awaited movie ‘The Kerala Story’ is out. Directed by Sudipto Sen and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, the story is about the plight of several of thousands of girls from India particularly from the state of Kerala who have been converted and trafficked to the Islamic State regimes in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan.

The film claims to be based on true events that happened in Kerala. The story traces the life of the protagankst Shalini Unnikrishnan who becomes Fatima Ba and ends up as an Islamic State terrorist in Afghanistan.

“Rather than knowing when I joined ISIS, it is more important to know why ans how I joined ISIS sir”, the protagonist tells Indian security agencies with subsequent shots showing grooming and conversion of gullible non-Muslim women by Islamists.

The trailer also shows unapologetically how fanatic Islamists indulge in forceful conversion by degrading other religions.

“Only Allah runs the word. Only Allah.”, a hijab-clad friend of the protagonist says in one scene.

In another scene, a Muslim man can be seen instigating Muslim youth to target and isolate the girls from their family, develop physical relations to make them pregnant and later convert them.

The film is slated for release on 5 May 2023 worldwide in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Telugu.

The problem of radicalisation in Kerala is nothing new. It has been often spoken about, but successive governments have buried the issue and pretended as though everything is perfect. This movie seems to shed light into this issue.

In an old speech, former Kerala Chief Minister, V S Achuthanandan is heard saying that the plan of the Popular Front of India is to make Kerala a Muslim state in the next 20 years. The movie trailer also speaks about the plight of thousands of girls and claims that many have been trafficked to the Islamic State and other Islamic war zones in the past 10 years.

In July 2018, a case was registered against two persons for helping accused Muhammad Riyaz convert a woman and attempting to take her to Syria and sell her off as a sex slave. The lady alleged that she was forced to attend a training programme at a Madrasa in Bengaluru. She also said that she got to know that Riyaz was planning on selling her off as a sex slave in Syria. She also said that Riyaz had received money from unidentified sources following her conversion.
