Tamil Nadu: Thousand year old Vishnu temple in ruins

Karivaratharaja Perumal temple present in the Kumaralingam area near Udumalai Bodipatti, is atleast thousand years old. The temple had been in good condition till a few years ago but is now in a state of despair. The people of the area have demanded that the temple be repaired immediately as it is on the verge of collapsing.

The idols in the temple were also found buried in the ground. The elders of the area said that the idol was left in the field next to it due to the weight of the idol when some people tried to steal it.

The people of the area have lamented that the thousand-year-old history of this temple is now buried in the soil. Also, a few people who came to research the temple a few years ago broke down the front door and went inside to do research. Residents claim that the front door of the temple was damaged by these researchers.

The residents have demanded the Archaeological Survey of India that action be taken to uncover the historical facts buried in the temple and that the temple be restored to its former glory.
