Tamil Nadu CM ‘Stalin’ asks couples to name their children in Tamil

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Sunday asked young Tamil men and women to name their children by choosing names from the Tamil language when he presided over the marriage of the daughter of a party headquarters secretary, Poochi S Murugan.

The leader of the DMK said it was his wish couples in Tamil Nadu pick Tamil names for their children.

He shared his wishes to the couple and in a tweet sent out from his handle where he urged others the young population to choose names for their babies from the Tamil language.

However, it is ironic that he himself is named after a Communist leader who is responsible for the death of 30 million people in the erstwhile Soviet Union in the 1930s and 1940s.

CM Stalin has himself said that his father was supposed to name him ‘Ayyadurai’, a combination of ‘Ayya’ referring to EV Ramasamy Naicker known as Periyar and ‘Durai’ after DMK founder Annadurai, but was named ‘Stalin’ after his father received the news of Russian Communist leader Joseph Stalin’s death. Karunanadhi who he says was addressing a public meeting at that time had apparently annoucned that he would be naming his son as ‘Stalin’.

However it must be noted that Joseph Stalin died on 5 March 1953 while MK Stalin was born on 1 March 1953.
