‘Sticker DMK’: TN Govt tries to take claim for Centre’s rescue efforts of Indians stranded in Ukraine

Living up to their legacy, the DMK government in Tamil Nadu has once again resorted to taking claims for the work done by the BJP-led Central government by stamping its sticker over Government of India’s efforts to rescue Indians stranded in Ukraine.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has been assisting in the evacuation of Indian nationals from Ukraine with MEA teams being sent to the land borders with Ukraine in Hungary, Poland, Slovak Republic and Romania.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 24 spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin and expressed India’s concerns regarding the safety of the Indian citizens in Ukraine, especially students, and conveyed his priority to ensure safe exit of them from the war-torn country of Ukraine.

Following this Air India has been going on rescue missions to evacuate the citizens from Ukraine in batches. Many of them have already landed in India.

It was also announced that Indian students and nationals would not have to pay money for the tickets as the cost is being borne by the Central Government.

Despite the announcement, the MK Stalin-led DMK government in Tamil Nadu has resorted to politicking saying that the state government would bear the cost of ‘Tamil Nadu students’.

DMK Minister Gingee Masthan said that students returned back to Tamil Nadu because of efforts taken by CM Stalin.

The mainstream media and the DMK-friendly social media channels in Tamil Nadu too have been playing the fiddle to peddle the narrative that the state government under the Chief Ministership of Stalin is rescuing students.

This has created an uproar on social media with many lashing out at the DMK that it is was unfortunate of the state government to do petty politics by ‘pasting stickers’ for Centre’s efforts.
