Sidhu chants ‘Allahu Akbar’ as new CM Charanjit Singh Channi takes office, Sikh groups upset

After the ouster of Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amrinder Singh after a long and protracted political battle led by Navjot Singh Sidhu, a new controversy has erupted after a video went viral on social media wherein, one could clearly hear Sidhu chant the Islamic words of Nara-e-Takbir Allahu Akbar in the presence of newly elected CM Charanjit Singh Channi.

The elevation of Charanjit Singh Channi to the seat of CM of Punjab is now been viewed as a political masterstroke because he is a Dalit. However, in Sikhism, there is no concept of caste because all are equal and now Sikh groups are upset that Sidhu instead of chanting the Sikh Jaikara “Jo Bole So Nihal Sat Sri Akal”.

Now The Chhattisgarh Sikh Sangathan chief Amarjeet Chhabra in a letter written to the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) chief Govind Singh Longowal said that Sidhu has violated the Sikh religion norms.

Amarjeet Chhabra said, “Sidhu is guilty of misconduct and has shown disrespect to the turban. He should be summoned by the Akal Takht (highest Sikh temporal authority) and be declared as Tankhaiya (religious punishment) on the basis of the slogans shouted by Sidhu during his recent rallies,”.

One Twitter user said, “Navjot Singh Sidhu: “Nara e Takbir. Allah ho akbar.” (“Slogan – Allah is the greatest.”) This is being done to provoke Hindus. Not sure if Sikhs are okay with it. In the background is a painting of Maharaja Ranjit Singh who converted Lahore’s Badshahi Mosque into stables,”.

It must be noted that slogans like “Nara e Takbir. Allah ho akbar” are used by Muslims when they claim victory over the infidels and Sidhu had no regard of Maharaja Ranjeet Singh whose portrait was on the background.

Navjot Singh Sidhu has been regarded by many as an agent provocateur and former CM Amarinder Singh even called him a security threat to the state and the nation because of his proxsimity to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan Naizi and the Inter-Service Intelligence.
