After 24 apartments part of the tenements built by the TN Slum Clearance Board collapsed yesterday in Thiruvottriyur, the residents of the apartments took refuge on roads and nearby platforms for the night. Meanwhile, as a panel of experts are said to inspect the residential areas built by the Housing board, the residents, who left their belongings are worried about where to go for habitation.
Currently, rescue operations are underway in the area of collapse. The residents of the apartments have been distressed after losing most of their belongings. The public is also lamenting about what to do with the ₹ 1 lakh provided by the Tamil Nadu government.
Meanwhile, out of the 336 houses that are available, experts are collecting information regarding the quality of 18 houses. As houses from other blocks also have to be checked, residents of almost 72 houses have been asked to vacate their residences. Due to this reason, the worried residents, who don’t know where to go with their belongings, have taken fort on roads and platforms. They have also demanded that the government provide alternative housing for them.
