Rebel YSRCP MP who was arrested found with bruised and severely injured legs, custodial torture alleged

Raghu Ramakrishna Raju, the rebel YSRCP Member of Parliament from Narsapuram constituency who was arrested by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Andhra Pradesh on Friday and slapped with sedition charges has got his legs bruised and injured allegedly due to custodial torture.

On May 14, around 30 officers from the CID swooped down at YSRCP MP Raghu Rama Krishna Raju’s residence in Hyderabad. The arrest was made based on a case registered at the Mangalagiri CID police station allegedly for ‘hate speech’.

He was booked under the draconian section 124 (A) (Sedition – Whoever by words, either spoken or written, or by signs, or by visible representation, or otherwise, brings or attempts to bring into hatred or contempt, or excites or attempts to excite disaffection towards the Government established by law) and 153 (B) (committing offence that threatens the national integrity)  505 (Public Mischief) read with 120 (B) (Criminal conspiracy) of the IPC (Indian Penal Code).

On Wednesday, the rebel YSRCP MP had requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide him with security claiming threat to his life for raising issue of rampant Christian conversions in Andhra Pradesh.

He had alleged that he had been receiving threat calls after filing a petition on April 6 seeking the cancellation of bail granted to Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

National Secretary of the BJP and co-in-charge for Andhra Pradesh came down heavily on the YSRCP government calling it a violation of human rights. He called for strict punishment of the police officials involved.
