RC Church in Chennai denies burial to ‘CSI’ Christian kid who died in accident

In yet another instance of discrimination by the Church, a class 2 boy who died in a freak accident at a school was denied a burial place by the Roman Catholic church in Chennai.

V.J. Theeksheth was a class 2 student studying at the Sri Venkateshwara Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Alwarthiru Nagar, Chennai. Earlier in the day, the boy was runover by the school van when the van driver was manouvering the vehicle in reverse.

The boy was rushed to a private hospital in Vadapalani, where was declared brought dead.

As news broke out, reporters rushed to take statements from the parents of the deceased child. The grieving mother who was visibly agitated lamented about the blatant discrimination practiced by the Roman Catholic Church.

She said that her request for a prayer meeting was denied by the Church stating that she belonged to the ‘CSI’ (Church of South India) denomination and not the Roman Catholic.

“You’re not able to give a piece of land to bury my child. What kind of Christian are you?”, the aggrieved mother lashed out.

“Aren’t you all ashamed? For what purpose are you running a Church? I’m also a Christian. I’ve read the bible. Don’t you all have shame? I’m ashamed to call myself a Christian today.”, the mother of the deceased child hit out at the Church’s discrimination.

“You expect me to go to Madurai with the body of my child, get a certificate and then bury? Aren’t you all ashamed?”, the grieving mother said.

“I’m a Christian. I’ve married a Hindu. We live happily. He follows his religion and I follow mine. We don’t have any issues. My father was a Hindu and my mother was a Christian. But your disgusting behaviour! I’m going to throw away Jesus photos in my house. What are you all doing in the name of Jesus? Discrimination, discrimination and discrimination. What is there to be proud of in being a Christian? You can’t even give a decent burial to my child. You’re asking me to take notice from here and there. Aren’t you all ashamed? We knew the AC and he was able to help. What if we hadn’t known him?”, the agitated mother said.

She also mentioned the Church denied to hold a prayer meeting when her mother had passed away last year stating that she was a CSI and not a Roman Catholic.

“What kind of a religion is this? My son loved Christianity. But today, I feel that this religion is unnecessary”, the distressed mother said.
