Israel Launches Operation “Swords of Iron” As Hamas Terrorists Unleash Barbarity

On the 50th anniversary of the Yom Kippur War, Hamas Islamic terrorists infiltrated Israel from Gaza and launched a massive rocket attack. The unprecedented surprise attack by Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip started at around  6:30 a.m at a time when the Israelis celebrated the last day of the weeklong Sukkot festival.

Israel Defense Forces sent out a post from its official X handle where it let the world know that it has initiated operation “Swords of Iron” to protect its civilians from Hamas terrorists. The IDF has said Hamas has made a ‘grave mistake’ and would have to pay a heavy price for it.

As per the latest reports, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have mobilized soldiers and has called on reservists as it declares a “state of war alert.” So far according to the terror group Hamas, it has fired 5,000 rockets against Israel in what it has called ‘Al-Aqsa Storm’ that has a very powerful Islamic meaning for Muslims. In a surprise attack, an unknown number of terrorists from Gaza have also entered Israeli territory. The IDF has asked Israelis who live near Gaza to stay in their homes.

In a statement released by the IDF, it read, “There has been widespread rocket fire into Israeli territory from Gaza, and terrorists have infiltrated Israeli territory through various entry points. Residents in the south and centre of the country are required to be in close proximity to protected areas, and those in the Gaza periphery should remain within a secure space,”.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the country is “at war” and “Citizens of Israel, we are at war — not in an operation, not in rounds — at war,” Netanyahu said in a video message.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said, “Hamas has made a grave mistake this morning and launched a war against the State of Israel. IDF troops are fighting against the enemy at every location. I call on all of Israel’s citizens to follow security instructions. The State of Israel will win this war.”

Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces are carrying out retaliatory airstrikes in the Gaza Strip just hours after Hamas launched a surprise attack, the Israeli daily reported. IDF Chief of Staff, Lt Gen Herzi Halevi in a statement has said, he is holding an assessment and approving plans of action, the daily added in its report.

As per the Israeli military, Hamas entered Israel’s territory Militants from Gaza by land, by sea, and by air using paragliders. The using of the paragliders will now be a cause of concern for many nations including India as it is a bold and innovative method of infiltration to carry out terror attacks.

According to the Times of Israel, Palestinian terrorists in the Gaza Strip launched massive rocket barrages on Saturday morning, and dozens of gunmen infiltrated the border town of Sderot and other communities, clashing with Israel Defense Force troops. At least six people have been reportedly killed and nearly 300 wounded, and casualties were reported from Sderot.

Sadly, Ofir Libstein, the mayor of Sha’ar HaNegev Regional Council, was killed in the terror attack by the Palestinian Islamist terror group Hamas, the Times of Israel reported. The mayor’s office in a statement said that the mayor was killed when he went to defend a town during a “terrorist attack“.

Mohammad Deif, the elusive leader of the Hamas military issued a statement in which he said “The ongoing attacks are in retaliation for Israel’s “desecration” of the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem,”.

Deif claimed that over 5,000 missiles were fired and “Today, the people are bringing back the revolution and reviving the March of Return,” he said. He also asked Arab Muslim citizens of Israel representing 21% of the country’s population. He asked Arabs in Jerusalem and inside Israel, in the Negev, the Galilee, and northern Israel to “set the earth on fire under the feet of the occupiers.”

The Yom Kippur War, also known as the October War or the 1973 Arab-Israeli War, was a major conflict that took place between Israel and a coalition of Arab states on 6 October 1973 including Egypt and Syria on the other, with support from other Arab nations, including Iraq, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia.

It must be noted that Jews and Muslims follow the lunar calendar which is why events like Yom Kippur or Eid holidays are not celebrated on the same date every year. In 2023, Yom Kippur began at sundown on September 24 and ended on September 25.

About Hamas

Hamas, short for the Islamic Resistance Movement, is a Palestinian political that has been designated as a terrorist organization by multiple countries, including Israel, the United States, the European Union, and others. Hamas was founded in 1987 during the First Intifada (Palestinian uprising) against Israeli occupation and has since carried out many acts of terror against the Jewish State of Israel.

Hamas was founded with the goal of establishing an Islamic state in historic Palestine and opposing the Israeli Zionist occupation. In 2006, Hamas won Palestinian legislative elections and subsequently took control of the Gaza Strip in 2007, leading to a split between Gaza, governed by Hamas, and the West Bank, governed by the Palestinian Authority (led by Fatah) and Mahmoud Abbas as its President.

The armed wing of Hamas is known as the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, which is responsible for carrying out terror activities, including rocket attacks on Israel and engaging in armed conflicts. Over the years, Hamas has developed several sophisticated tactics to carry out its attacks. But suicide bombings, rocket attacks, and tunneling, to target Israeli civilians and military personnel remains its favorite.

Hamas started out as a terror organization but by joining politics, it remains a complex and divisive actor in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and is a huge roadblock in the peace process, and its latest actions will have a significant impact on the region’s stability and prospects for peace.
