‘Is this Secretariat or Arivalayam?’: Udhayanidhi Stalin’s photo inside Minister’s office triggers row

The DMK is once again being called out for its blatant dynastic politics and rightly so, as portraits of Udhayanidhi Stalin have been found adorning the walls along with pictures of his father MK Stalin, late DMK patriarch Karunanidhi, CN Annadurai, and E.V. Ramaswamy Naicker.

The photo was found on the office walls of Law Minister S Raghupathy. This triggered a social media storm with critics of the DMK coming down heavy asking what has Udhyanidhi achieved in public life for his photo to be placed along with other leaders.

“Except for allegedly ‘acting’ in a few flop films, what is his achievement?”, asked a user on social media.

Others heavily criticized the senior leaders of the party for being subservient to one family by pledging their self-respect, which they claim to stand for.

Former Fisheries Minister D. Jayakumar of the AIADMK posted a tweet in which he asked whether it was the Tamil Nadu Secretariat of Arivalayam (DMK’s headquarters).

This isn’t an isolated incident. Recently, Udhayanidhi Stalin’s photo standing among DMK leaders in Trichy was put up when Stalin opened the sluice gates of a dam that let out waters for irrigating the Kuruvai crop. “What was the need for Chepauk MLA’s picture at Trichy?”, asked one political observer.

It is to be noted that Udhayanidhi Stalin is just an MLA and not the Minister in the government. Political commentators have been stating that CM Stalin is propping up his son and is preparing the ground for it.
