India hands over Chinese soldier who strayed across border

Corporal Wang Ya Long, the Chinese soldier who had crossed into Indian territory in the Demchok sector of easter Ladakh and was taken into custody by the Indian Army was released on Wednesday by the Indian Army.

He was handed over to China at the Chushul-Moldo border personnel meeting point after completion of all formalities as per protocol, an officer of the Indian Army said.

The Chinese soldier belongs to Shangxizhen town located in the central Zhejiang province. The soldier who was disoriented when he was taken into custody by the Indian Army was provided with medical assistance and underwent basic questioning.

An officer of the Indian Army confirmed that there was no espionage angle.

China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that the soldier was helping local herdsmen in finding their yaks.
