A wave of Instagram influencers and self-styled activists went on an overdrive, flooding reels and stories with emotional appeals, guilt-tripping content, and direct calls for people to descend on Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on July 20 for a ‘march’ to Parliament.
After it descended into chaos and injured police personnel, celebrities and influencers are once again sharing stories on their Instagram supporting the rioters.
On 20 July 2026 and 21 July 2026, actors shared stories of the protests and solidarity messages. Here are some:
Bollywood celebrity Mithila Palkar shared stories supporting the mob protests despite them turning violent.
She seemed to be justifying the violence caused by the ‘students’. It was anarchy at the protest site and over 100 police personnel were injured, some severely. And yet, she defends them.
Next, we have standup comic Aravind SA who also showed his support by posting a few stories and not questioning the violence caused by the protestors.
He also then shared a ‘human interest’ story to humanise the violence of the protests.
Bollywood actor Aditi Rao Hydari was also seen sharing posts and stories supporting the protests.
A few days ago, she had posted a picture of anarchist Sonam Wangchuk claiming hus life was ‘invaluable’ forgetting that almost all of his ‘peaceful’ hunger strikes end up in violence and anarchy.
Malayalam actor Priya Varrier also shared a story questioning the government.
Malayalam actor Tovino Thomas portrayed the July 20 CJP “Sansad Chalo” protest as peaceful and asked, “Did they destroy property?”, while expressing solidarity with the demonstrators.
However, according to Delhi Police and multiple media reports, the violence allegedly left over 100 police personnel injured, damaged 15–20 government and police vehicles, and resulted in the destruction of barricades and other public property.
Bollywood actor Ahilya Bamroo shared a series of stories on her Instagram in support of the violent protests.
Standup comic who claimed there were ‘Two Indias’ Virdas also shared a few stories supporting the ‘students’.
Actress Sanjana Sarathy shared stories supporting the mob protests, portraying as if the violence was done by the police only, giving a clean chit to the rioters.
Another model and actress Sanchana Natarajan went overboard with her stories and shared several in support of the protestors.
These are just some of the celebrities who have posted. But they all uniformly portray the events as though the police is in the wrong and that the protestors are innocent and did not indulge even in a bit of violence. In addition to these, several other Instagram influencers have flooded the platform with pro-Sonam Wangchuk/pro-protest content in what can be called a massive influencer-driven campaign of manufactured dissent more than any authentic public movement.
