Police have arrested eight people including a branch secretary of the DMK for engaging in prostitution.
Hemamala, an inspector of the prostitution prevention unit of the police, had received a tip-off that a prostitution racket was functional in the Attikulam area of Madurai and raided the area. Upon seeing the police, the men and women panicked and started running helter-skelter only to be detained later.
At that time it was revealed that Poosamalai, DMK branch secretary from Muduvarpatti Devaseri area near Alanganallur in Madurai district was one of the key persons engaged in sex work.
3 women and 5 men were later produced in court and remanded them in custody.
The incident in which a DMK office bearer was found to be involved in a prostitution racket has caused shock among the people of the region.
