Complaint filed against ‘Me Too’ fame Vairamuthu to book him under POCSO Act for penning pedophilic lyrics

A complaint has been lodged with the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) against ‘Me Too’ fame Tamil lyricist Vairamuthu for penning a song that romanticizes pedophilia.

‘Me Too’ fame lyricist Vairamuthu who now has a YouTube channel of his own released a new album song titled ‘En Kadhala’ on May 23 as part of his ‘Naatpadu Theral’ series.

The song is about a school-going girl in love with a grey-haired old ‘poet’ and is filmed with 16-year-old star Anika Surendran.

Here are some of the problematic lyrics from the song:

Will age end our lives? Liplocks don’t know our age, Isn’t moon the oldest of all, But this young lily will bloom when the moon asks to…

“I don’t have a father in my life.. Want a husband like my father”

“The laws of love, Keeps changing with time” [Implying that it is okay for the younger girl to fall in love with a very old man]

“The deep well is old.. The stream is young.. When the stream meets the well, Who can question it?”

Netizens have been lashing out that the basic premise of the song encourages pedophilia and delivers a message that pedophilia is OK in the name of poetry.

Following this, a complaint has been filed against Vairamuthu by Legal Right Protection Forum (LRPF) with the NCPCR.

The complaint states that the song encourages pedophilia and delivers a message to the society that pedophilia is not a wrong deed. It adds that these types of lyrics are not only meant to provoke sexual thoughts among minor children but also have underlying pedophilic attitudes in the blanket of love.

LRPF has urged the NCPCR to take necessary action under sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 and other relevant laws in this regard. It has also asked the national child right body to issue prohibitory orders to Kalaignar TV from airing the said video song on its channel along with a notice to YouTube India to delete the particular video from the platform.

BJP Tamil Nadu leader SG Suryah has also urged the NCPCR to take action against the lyricist.

The ‘Naatpadu Theral’ is a project by Vairamuthu for the DMK mouthpiece Kalaignar TV with song project with 100 singers, 100 composer and 100 directors.

#MeToo fame controversial lyricist Vairamuthu has been accused of sexual harassment by Singer Chinmayi. However, no action has been taken against Vairamuthu as he is close to the DMK family.
