“Would Be The Largest Attack On US Soil Since 9/11”: Canada-Based Pakistani Islamist Charged With Plotting Terrorist Attack Against Jews In New York In Support Of ISIS

The US Department of Justice has charged a Pakistani national with allegedly plotting to attack Jews in New York on the anniversary of the October 7 terror attacks in Israel, media reported.

Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, 20, was going to attack in support of ISIS, prosecutors allege, and told an undercover agent he wanted to target New York because it has the “largest Jewish population in America”, CNN reported.

According to a statement by US Justice Department, the based out of Canada was plotting a terror attack in a Jewish Center in the US. During one communication, Khan noted that “if we succeed with our plan this would be the largest Attack on US soil since 9/11.”

Khan is charged with attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organisation. He was arrested on Wednesday in Canada. The charges were unsealed on Friday.

“The defendant was allegedly determined to kill Jewish people here in the United States, nearly one year after Hamas’ horrific attack on Israel. This investigation was led by the FBI, and I am proud of the terrific work by the FBI team and our partners to disrupt Khan’s plan,” FBI Director Christopher Wray said.

“The FBI will continue to work closely with our partners to investigate and hold accountable those who seek to commit violence in the name of ISIS or other terrorist organizations. Fighting terrorism remains the FBI’s top priority,” Wray added.

“The defendant is alleged to have planned a terrorist attack in New York City around October 7 of this year with the stated goal of slaughtering, in the name of ISIS, as many Jewish people as possible,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement, adding that “Jewish communities — like all communities in this country — should not have to fear that they will be targeted by a hate-fueled terrorist attack”.

In November 2023, Khan, who lives in Canada, began allegedly discussing his support for ISIS on an encrypted messaging application with two people who, unknown to him, were undercover law enforcement officers, CNN reported. Khan told the officers that he was trying to create “a real offline cell” of ISIS that would target Jewish institutions around an unnamed city, according to court documents, and instructed the officers to buy firearms for those attacks.

Khan allegedly told the officers that he wanted to carry out the attacks on either October 7 or 11, because “October 7 they will surely have some protests and October 11 is yom.kippur,” a major Jewish holiday.

By August of this year, prosecutors allege, Khan decided that he wanted to carry out the attacks at a Jewish centre in Brooklyn. It is easy to “target jews” in New York because of the large Jewish population, he allegedly told the undercover officers, adding that “even if we don’t attack an Event, we could rack up easily a lot of Jews”.

Once he decided on the location of the attack, Khan allegedly paid a human smuggler to help him cross the border into the US. On September 4, Khan allegedly used three separate cars as he tried to cross Canada and enter the US. He was stopped nearly 12 miles from the US-Canada border, according to the Justice Department.

The Pakistani national is charged with one count of attempting to provide material support and resources to a designated foreign terrorist organisation. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the US Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

The Israel Defense Forces on October 7 last year declared a state of readiness for war following a massive barrage of rockets from the Gaza Strip and infiltration of Hamas terrorists into Israel, and the war is on ever since.

Female Infanticide In Vellore, Special Police Team To Probe Similar Cases

The Tamil Nadu Police will constitute a special team to probe female infanticide and foeticide cases in the state after a couple in Vellore was arrested for killing their baby daughter.

According to Vellore district police, Jeeva (28) and his wife Dayana (20) of Yeliur village in Vellore district were arrested on Friday for allegedly poisoning their infant daughter to death.

The couple were arrested after the father of Dayana, Saravanan filed a complaint with the Veppankulam, Station House Officer (SHO) in Vellore district that he was suspicious about the death of the infant.

In his complaint, Saravanan said that his daughter told him that the baby girl died after she bled from her nose and ear.

Unconvinced, Saravanan filed a complaint with the police, and on questioning, the couple admitted to killing the child as they were expecting their second child to be a boy.

After the arrest of the couple, Tamil Nadu Police set to constitute a special police team under a DIG-level officer to probe whether other such instances were taking place in the state.

The police team will seek details from all the district police headquarters on the deaths of infant girls in the last year.

The district police will also use the services of the District Child Protection Department and Child Welfare Committee to find out the number of infant girls in the state.

It may be recalled that in earlier years too there were several cases of female foeticide and infanticide in Vellore district. There have been one or two cases of deaths due to milk aspiration involving female babies every month.

The Vellore district administration had already issued a missive to the district medical officers to consider second daughters as high risk babies and follow up every week at least for a month.

The district administration also issued directives to all Taluk hospitals to monitor the progress of female babies and to depute a team comprising of village nurses and technicians to monitor the growth of the child.

The state medical department has also stepped up enforcement of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, 1994 to curb female foeticide.

It may be recalled that the state police carried out a crackdown on illegal scan centres that were used for gender identification.

As many as 22 illegal scan centres were shut down in Tiruvannamalai district of Tamil Nadu a couple of years ago.

With the Vellore police registering a case of female infanticide against Jeeva and Dayana, the special police team will be checking the antecedents of those who were involved in operating illegal scan centres and a detailed study will be carried out on the abortions and Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) carried out in the past one year in each district.

A senior officer with Tamil Nadu Police headquarters while speaking to IANS said, “The focus will be on the recent deaths of infant girls whose parents have a first girl child. The MTP cases will also be studied in detail and the team will probe whether abortions were undertaken by women who had a first girl child.”

August 2024 has tied with August 2023 as the hottest August on record globally, with the average surface air temperature hitting 16.82 degrees Celsius, 0.71 degrees Celsius above the average August temperature from 1991 to 2020, according to the EU’s Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S).

The data also showed that August 2024 was 1.51 degrees Celsius warmer than pre-industrial (1850-1900) levels, marking the 13th time in the past 14 months that the global average surface air temperature has surpassed 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, a critical threshold set by the Paris Agreement, Xinhua news agency reported.

Meanwhile, year-to-date data indicates 2024 is on course to become the hottest year on record, as the global average temperature for January to August was 0.7 degrees Celsius above the 1991-2020 average, the highest on record for this period.

C3S stressed that the average temperature anomaly for the remainder of the year would need to drop by at least 0.3 degrees Celsius to avoid surpassing 2023 as the hottest year — a highly unlikely scenario based on historical data.

“During the past three months of 2024, the globe has experienced the hottest June and August, the hottest day on record, and the hottest boreal summer on record. This string of record temperatures is increasing the likelihood of 2024 being the hottest year on record,” said Samantha Burgess, deputy director of C3S.

Burgess emphasised that the temperature-related extreme events seen this summer foreshadow more severe and destructive climate impacts unless urgent measures are taken to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The wave of sexual assault and rape allegations rocking the Malayalam film industry has now reached Tamil Nadu, with shocking new accusations brought to light by South Indian actor Sowmya. In an emotional interview with NDTV, Sowmya revealed horrific details of the abuse she endured at the hands of a Tamil director, including claims of severe mental, physical, and sexual exploitation.

Sowmya accused the director of inserting a rod into her genitals for “entertainment” and of grooming her as a “sex slave” over several years. She explained that the director, whose identity she has chosen not to disclose for the time being, initially approached her along with his wife when she was just 18 years old. The director manipulated her into a vulnerable state by pretending to be a father figure, expressing a disturbing desire to have a child with her, and then repeatedly raped her throughout her college years.

According to Sowmya, the abuse did not stop even after she entered the Malayalam film industry, where she appeared in three successful films during the 1990s. The exploitation continued, and Sowmya plans to reveal the director’s identity to the special police team formed by the Kerala government, which is currently investigating multiple cases of sexual assault in the film industry.

In the interview, Sowmya also shared how her family was coerced into letting her act after the director pressured her father, claiming that a significant amount of money had already been spent on her screen test. Despite her initial discomfort, Sowmya felt forced to proceed with the project. She recounted how the director, who called her his “daughter,” began to groom her while dismissing rape allegations made by his biological daughter as lies.

As the manipulation escalated, so did the abuse. Sowmya described how the director kissed her one day when his wife was not around, calling her his “daughter.” Frozen and ashamed, she did not feel able to confide in her friends about the assault. Over time, the abuse worsened, and she eventually endured sexual violence from other actors and technicians. One of her co-stars, who she says also sexually abused her, has been named in the Hema Committee report, a major investigation into sexual misconduct in the Malayalam film industry.

Sowmya further recounted a particularly humiliating incident where someone spat paan on her. After years of enduring abuse, she revealed it took her 30 years to recover from the shame and trauma. Now, she is speaking out to encourage other survivors to come forward and share their stories.

Her revelations come as the Malayalam film industry is reeling from a flood of sexual misconduct allegations following the release of the Justice Hema Committee report. This report, commissioned by the Kerala government after the 2017 actress assault case, uncovered widespread harassment and exploitation of women in the industry. Several prominent actors, including Mukesh, an MLA with the ruling CPM, have been implicated in multiple allegations of sexual abuse.

Rajini, Kamal, Vijay, Jiiva, Karthi’s Response (Lack Of It) To Hema Committee Report

Actor Rajinikanth acted all innocent as if he was never aware about the issue or the existence of Hema Committee report. When asked about calls to establish a similar panel in Tamil Nadu, Rajinikanth responded that he was unaware of the report and declined to comment.

Actor-politicians like Kamal Haasan who has been accused of kissing an underage actress back in the day has not even uttered a word about it. Vijay has also remained silent on the issue.

As actor Radhika Sarathkumar highlighted in an interview with Sun News, “Many top actors of Tamil cinema took the time to post about the F4 racing in Chennai, but it’s shocking to see their complete silence on the Hema Committee report.”

Following Radhika Sarathkumar’s interview with Asianet where she talked about harassment in the Malayalam industry, actor Jiiva was asked about these claims and the broader issues revealed by the Hema Committee report, Jiiva insisted that such problems did not exist in Tamil cinema, asserting that these issues were confined to the Malayalam industry. Despite his initial advice to avoid such questions at a public event, Jiiva’s frustration grew as journalists pressed him further. The situation escalated into a verbal exchange, with Jiiva ultimately leaving the venue without further comment. His remarks, however, have drawn attention to the need for greater scrutiny of harassment in the Tamil film industry.

Karthi, the treasurer of the Nadigar Sangam, avoided addressing the topic during a press meeting for his upcoming film Meiyazhagan. When asked by the media, he responded, “This is not the place to have this conversation.”

No Debate By Dravidianist Media

It is well known that the mainstream media in Tamil Nadu is nothing but an extended arm of DK-DMK propaganda wing with its anchors becoming spokespersons of these parties.

If you observe the debates conducted by the Dravidianist media, they’re trying to keep the issue confined to Kerala. Notably, prominent Dravidian anchors on the Hema Committee Report have remained conspicuously absent of prime debates. Perhaps they want to ensure that the fallout doesn’t extend to Tamil Nadu, as it could disrupt the Dravidian film ecosystem, which is currently under the grip of the state’s first family. There are already so many rumours floating around about it. Well, the readers will know.

Nadigar Sangam Finally Reacts To Hema Committee Report

The controversy surrounding sexual misconduct in the Malayalam film industry has prompted the South Indian Artistes’ Association (SIAA), also known as Nadigar Sangam, to take strong measures in Tamil Nadu. The association held a meeting in light of the Hema Committee report to discuss how to handle similar cases of abuse within the Tamil film industry.

The actors’ body has announced that it will take stern action against any individuals proven guilty of sexual offences, including imposing a five-year ban on offenders. In a resolution passed at the meeting, Nadigar Sangam emphasized the importance of forming a Gender Sensitisation and Internal Complaints Committee (GSICC) to address complaints related to sexual harassment. This committee will also provide legal assistance to victims. However, the leadership stressed that women must report their complaints to the committee before disclosing them to the media.

Nadigar Sangam assured that all complaints would be thoroughly investigated and that a warning would be issued to alleged perpetrators before taking further action. The association has established a dedicated phone number and a new email ID for victims to lodge complaints. Senior female actors like Suhasini, Kushboo, and Lissy attended the meeting, offering their support to the initiative.

The association has also pledged to support those seeking to take legal action against inappropriate content on YouTube channels. These measures come as the Tamil film industry remains on high alert, closely observing the criminal cases in Kerala, where over 20 cases against actors, directors, and production controllers have been registered.

As more survivors come forward with their stories, the revelations in the Malayalam and Tamil film industries continue to spark widespread concern about the treatment of women in cinema. It remains to be seen whether the formation of committees like the GSICC in Tamil Nadu will effectively address these issues and ensure that perpetrators of sexual violence are held accountable.

The DMK has reportedly bowed to pressure from Dravidianist factions, resulting in a contentious situation where the ruling party struggles to balance conflicting interests over which ideology will prevail in schools. The recent Teacher’s Day celebration at the Government Girls’ School in Ashok Nagar, Chennai, sparked controversy when the motivational speaker invited for the occasion quoted Thirukkural and discussed Hindu philosophies such as karma, rebirth, and past lives. This provoked strong reactions from Periyarist and Dravidianist groups, leading to severe criticism of Tamil Nadu DMK Minister Anbil Mahesh on social media.

In response to the backlash, Minister Anbil Mahesh swiftly initiated an inquiry. He ordered the transfer of the school’s headmistress, which was notably quicker than the government’s response to caste conflicts in other parts of the state. Chief Minister MK Stalin, currently on a tour in the US, addressed the issue via his X handle. He announced plans to develop and implement new guidelines for regulating school programs in Tamil Nadu. These guidelines aim to ensure that all students receive progressive and scientific education. Stalin emphasized the importance of fostering individual growth, ethical living, and sound ideas for social development in students. He reiterated his commitment to promoting scientific thinking: “Science is the path to progress.”

This has sparked significant backlash, as critics argue that the DMK is only targeting issues related to Hinduism while permitting other activities to continue unchecked in schools. Netizens have reacted by sharing old videos of an MLA making fear-mongering statements about suicide and a Christian pastor claiming to have incorporated advocacy for Christianity into the social sciences curriculum. Additionally, there are videos promoting atheism in schools that have also gone viral.

In one of the videos, Virugambakkam DMK MLA Prabhakara Raja is seen delivering a fear-mongering speech to school students about NEET-related suicides while promoting the DMK’s anti-NEET agenda and instilling fear among the students.  He said, “You know how many died of suicide because of NEET? You know who died by suicide first? it was Anitha, do you know how many marks she obtained? she got centum in Biology, Maths but she couldn’t become a doctor and her cutoff was 196 marks. Rights of such students must not be grabbed right? how many of you want NEET? hence on behalf of DMK  we are getting signatures from schools and colleges you have to speak to your friends circles too, only if we gather more signatures central governmnet will feel there is no need for NEET. We are doing it perfectly online without using papers.”  They questioned whether conducting spiritual discussions in schools is considered wrong, while preaching about suicidal thoughts is deemed acceptable.

In another video, a man is seen spreading blantant lies about the Supreme Court’s verdict on the Ayodhya Ram temple land dispute case. He claimed that the court’s decision was based on religious belief rather than evidence, and was making these assertions in front of government school students. He stated, “Have you ever heard of someone being born from the head? Think about it, is it possible? Can someone be born from the legs? It’s all imagination that we believe in and we are made to believe in it. But that belief eventually becomes like a reality, and this is happening in our society. An important judgment has been released, yes it’s the Ayodhya case judgement. What’s the judgment? There was already a Babur mosque, with all claiming that the place where Ram was born, was standing the mosque. Hence, to build a temple, on 6 December 1992, the Babur mosque was demolished. Then there was a case regarding who the land belonged to, and today the judgment was delivered that the land belonged to Ram. How does the land belong to Ram means, the court stated that there has been a belief for a long time that Ram was born there, and in the belief of one, another cannot be interrupted. That’s it, it’s that simple in our country. The court haven’t asked that if there is any evidence.. no, it had asked, but they could not provide any, because where there hospitals, anyone oversaw deliveries, or anything, what was there?”

The incident happened in 2019 when the AIADMK was in power.

In another viral video, controversial Christian catholic priest Joe Arun is seen openly admitting at a Loyola College conclave that he had incorporated Jesuit ideas into the Tamil Nadu state syllabus while serving on the curriculum setting council. He claimed these ideas were included in social science subjects from classes 1 through 12.

Joe Arun said, “The state government of Tamil Nadu asked me to revise the syllabus from first standard to twelfth standard social sciences syllabuses. I was one of the mentors who decided. If you go and see today’s first standard students’ social science notebook, plenty of Jesuit ideologies are injected into it. Nobody knows. More and more Majlis and all are inserted there. You will see only pictures in the first standard students (book), it’s my idea. I told these people that if a Theni teacher teaches geography, she first has to take the sand of Theni and ask what this sand is before studying wetlands.”

It is to be noted that Joe Arun was part of the textbook committee when the AIADMK was in power. However, this Rev. Fr. C. Joe Arun, SJ, has recently been appointed as the Chairman of the Tamil Nadu State Minorities Commission.

During the examination held on 13 July 2024, TNPSC included a question that states, “Who is certified as, “Socrates of South Asia” by UNESCO a unit organisation of United Nation?” perpetuating the propaganda endorsed by DMK and other Dravidianist organizations, aiming to portray E.V. Ramasamy Naicker (EVR) as an international leader. Despite repeatedly debunking this falsehood, with UNESCO itself making a statement that no such award was given to EVR, TNPSC persists in promoting it.

For over 40 years, this falsehood has been propagated through numerous articles and research papers about E.V. Ramasamy Naicker (Periyar). Despite their claims of upholding facts, neither the media nor the so-called intellectual circles have ever addressed this blatant misinformation.

In February 2021, a petition was submitted to the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court calling for the removal of a misleading statement from Tamil Nadu school textbooks. The claim falsely stated that UNESCO gave Periyar the title of ‘Socrates of Southeast Asia’, which is factually inaccurate.

The Court directed the relevant textbook committees to review and take necessary action within 12 weeks. The petitioner, advocate Muhammad Razvi, highlighted that several Class 9 and college textbooks published by the Tamil Nadu government wrongfully credited this title to Periyar. He also stressed that India is not part of UNESCO’s recognized Southeast Asian countries, further disproving the claim.

It seems that anyone can influence students with various ideologies and misinformation, but if someone teaches ethical values from Thirukkural, the DMK government will respond by transferring them and creating issues out of it.

If the government does not like religion being taught at schools, it shouldn’t include Thirukural in the syllabus because the Hindu scripture composed by the Rishi Thiruvalluvar. Below is a thread with the list of Kurals from Thirukkural where rebirth and karma are mentioned:

Kural 38: “The good things you do without wasting a single day of your life, is the rock that will block your passage on the path to rebirth.” How can Valluvar be secular/irreligious if he believes in rebirth – a concept alien to the Abrahamic worldview?

Kural 358: “What is wisdom? It is that rare realization of the true nature of things, which banishes forever the folly of rebirth.” This is Valluvar’s Jnana Marga to Moksha – the fourth Purushartha.

Kural 8: “The boundless ocean of births can be crossed, indeed, but not without intimate union with Infinity’s Holy Feet.” What’s that you see? Births in plural. Many births. Not one. An ocean of births. One must also consider which faith worships the holy feet of the Lord. Compare this to அவனருளாலே அவன் தாள் வணங்கி in Thiruvasagam.

Kural 1011: “Real shyness is to shy away from evil deeds. The rest are like the shyness of pretty women.” What’s the first word of this Kural? Karma.  Used in this context to signify bad Karma only.

Manusmriti(10.63) prescribes 5 tenets that are to be followed by all humans of all varnas – Samanya Dharma. The first of them is Ahimsa – non-violence, followed by Satyam (Truth) next. In Kural 323, Valluvar is quoting the exact order. “Not killing is the first and foremost good. The virtue of not lying comes next.” Ahimsa 1st, Satyam next – knowledge of this order implies Valluvar being aware of Manusmriti

It is also possible to classify Valluvar’s Arathupaal Kurals from Manusmriti’s Samanya Dharma perspective.

Devas do not blink/sweat/cast shadows according to scriptures

In Thirukkural 413, Valluvar uses the exact Dharmic terminology of Havis being consumed by Devas. “Humans on earth who consume the ear food (wisdom listening) are similar to Devas who consume the Havis (oblations offered with reverence) of the Yagna.” Only Vedic Hinduism believes in this.

Dravidam takes false pride in Valluvar by distorting and misquoting him as an irreligious, identity-less person. Real Tamils take real pride in Rishi Thiruvalluvar for who he was – a practising Hindu who wrote a globally appealing magnum opus of Bharatiya virtues, polity, and love in Thirukkural. His philosophical work is a gift from Thamizhagam to the world.

BJP Councillor Uma Anandan of the Greater Chennai Corporation has condemned the DMK government and the education department for promoting false claims that students are protesting against the RSS in government schools. She described these claims as false and absurd and questioned whether the DMK intends to remove Tamil scholars such as Avvaiyar and Thirukkural from the school curriculum.

Speaking to reporters about the education department’s controversial decision to transfer the headmistress of Ashok Nagar Government Girls Higher Secondary School following an allegedly contentious speech delivered by a chief guest on Teacher’s Day, BJP Councillor Uma Anandan criticized the DMK government for promoting misleading narratives. She questioned the origin of the complaints, asserting that the motivational speaker, invited by the school administration, did not trespass but was officially invited.

Anandan reviewed the speaker’s address, noting that it only covered topics like previous birth, rebirth, and karma. She questioned why the Justice Chandru Committee was established if it was meant to foster values and address caste conflicts among students. She asked whether the DMK plans to remove Tamil literary works such as Thirukkural from the syllabus due to controversial comments. She expressed concern over whether teachings by Avvaiyar, who advised not visiting towns without temples or not to be without sacred ash on the forehead, might also be removed by the DMK government.

Uma Anandan remarked, “They said that he was quoting the Thirukkural and spoke about ‘Immai’ (present life) and ‘Marumai’ (past life). Now, will they remove Thirukkural? Will the Tamil Nadu government and the education department say that they will not teach Thirukkural to children.” She continued, “Avvaiyar had said all of these: the forehead should not be without sacred ash, worshiping in a shrine is good, and don’t live in a town without a temple. Now, are they going to remove her too? Are they going to remove Avvaiyar’s picture? Where are they going to draw the line on this?”

She then criticized the DMK for spreading the narrative that students were protesting against the RSS, questioning why the issue is being misrepresented. Anandan also challenged the DMK’s decision to grant special permission for Muslims to conduct ‘namaz’ in public parks in Ward 129 during Ramadan, asking if similar permission would be granted for celebrating Vinayakar Chaturthi. She wondered if the law is applied selectively based on the requester’s identity and beliefs. Additionally, Anandan accused the DMK government of removing sacred ash from Thiruvalluvar’s forehead and implied that they might next attempt to erase Thiruvalluvar himself from the curriculum.

She concluded by warning that if the headmistress who permitted the program is transferred, they will block the roads and stage a protest against the decision.

The demand follows the recent arrest of S. Grace Sagayarani, 54, and her son, Samson Daniel, 31, a government doctor, under the POCSO Act. They face charges related to the sexual assault of children at a government-aided school in Trichy. Reports allege that Grace Sagayarani allowed her son to abuse students, prompting a significant backlash against the DMK government.

The Hindu Munnani has criticized the state administration for its alleged failure to address abuses in Christian missionary-run hostels. The organisation calls for decisive action against the individuals involved, including the headmistress of the affected school. They argue that despite the financial support provided by the government for educational purposes, severe issues of sexual harassment have surfaced.

The Hindu Munnani has criticized the situation, stating, “Even if Appavu and Vairamuthu buttress more than paid for Christians saying they provided education, the pretence of those who purportedly offer education has been exposed engaging in sexual harassment. In Trichy’s Melapudur area, female students have been victims of sexual harassment linked to the ruling DMK government’s minority vote. Therefore, the Tamil Nadu government should establish a Christian Charities Department to oversee church administration and regulate illegal activities, at least now.”

The arrests followed a victim’s complaint, which led to the discovery that the hostel operated by the Church lacked necessary government approvals. Grace Sagayarani and Samson Daniel are accused of sexually assaulting school girls at the DELC Church-run Bishop Hyman Memorial Primary School.

The Hindu Munnani’s request for a comprehensive review and stricter oversight of missionary-run institutions highlights growing concerns about the regulation and safety of educational facilities in Tamil Nadu.

Background

On 3 September 2024, Dr. S. Samson Daniel (31), a government doctor, was arrested under the POCSO Act on allegations of sexually assaulting minor girls at a hostel affiliated with a government-aided school in Trichy. His mother, S. Grace Sagayarani (54), who is the headmistress of the school, was also taken into custody for allegedly helping to cover up the offenses.

Daniel, from Palakkarai in Trichy, was employed as a doctor at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Anbil near Lalgudi. He frequently visited the school hostel under the pretense of conducting health checkups. During these visits, he is accused of inappropriately touching girls aged between five and ten. A concerned parent reported this abuse to the childline helpline, 1098.

Following the report, District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) Rahul Gandhi, District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) Vijayalakshmi, and two social workers visited the hostel on 2 August 2024. They interviewed 42 children, who revealed that Daniel had been assaulting them during his health checkups over the past few months. Based on their findings, the Fort All Women Police arrested the doctor under the POCSO Act, and the investigation is ongoing.

There is a lot of noise in Tamil Nadu social media circles regarding a recent controversy involving motivational speaker Mahavishnu from the Paramporul Foundation. 

What’s The Controversy?

During his speech, Mahavishnu stated that ancient Indian education systems, like Gurukulams, were destroyed by British rule, leading to the loss of powerful knowledge once written on palm leaves (olaichuvadu). He asserted that reciting certain mantras could heal bodies, cause “rain of fire,” or enable one to fly, alluding to mystical powers lost over time. He then stated that social inequalities, and people’s circumstances—whether rich, poor, criminal, or heroic—were the result of actions in their previous lives.

A school staff member objected to the content of Mahavishnu’s speech, pointing out that the speaker was invited for a motivational talk, not a spiritual discourse. This led to a heated argument, with Mahavishnu questioning the teacher how a child will live a proper life without knowledge about past life karma. A video of the incident, later uploaded to Mahavishnu’s YouTube channel, went viral, triggering widespread criticism among Dravidianists.

Who Is ‘Mahavishnu’?

Mahavishnu of the Paramporul Foundation is said to have received ‘Deeksha’ from his guru, Tat Sat Bramma Gnani Sri Sri Sri Kanchi Viswanatha Swamigal. Previously known as a standup comedian, Mahavishnu even won the title “Asathal Mannan” in Sun TV’s stand-up comedy show in 2010, as mentioned on his LinkedIn profile. Following his deeksha, he transitioned into a motivational speaker, Reiki healer, and mental care counsellor. He has since delivered numerous talks and conducted spiritual programs both in India and internationally, according to his website. At a recent school event, Mahavishnu discussed topics such as past-life sins, karma, and rebirth, explaining to the children how one’s current life struggles are linked to their actions in previous lives.

Karma & Rebirth – Anti-Abrahamic Ideas

Mahavishnu, in his videos, extensively discusses topics such as God (Iraivan), karma, and rebirth. He advises people to live kindly and diligently, encouraging them to emulate the Siddhars, who, according to tradition, transcend the cycle of rebirth. He also speaks about Mukti, the ultimate liberation, and attaining the Lotus Feet of the Supreme. In his recent ‘controversial‘ speech, Mahavishnu emphasized living a virtuous and principled life, which he believes will lead to a better existence in the next birth.

His videos on karma, a core concept in Hindu Dharma, are aimed particularly at young people who might be at risk of straying from the right path, helping them avoid mistakes that could ruin their youth. Mahavishnu also integrates teachings from the Thirukkural, the writings of Saint Vallalar in the Thiruvarutpa, and wisdom from Tamil saints like Agastyar and others into his speeches, making his message deeply rooted in the spiritual traditions of the Tamil region.

Meeting With DMK Members

In 2023, Mahavishnu met with members of the DMK government, especially the education department—Minister Anbil Mahesh and the head of the Tamil Nadu Textbook Corporation, Dindigul Leoni—to submit a petition on behalf of the Paramporul Foundation and all well-wishers requesting to incorporate Vallalar’s Thiruchitrambala Kalvi Thiruvarutpa in school textbooks. He stated that this literature would benefit students immensely. In his video, he states that the leaders promised to look into it and recommend it as necessary.

A Facebook post of the Paramporul Foundation also shows that Mahavishnu met with HR&CE minister Sekar Babu and also presented a similar petition.

The Facebook page also has posts of Mahavishnu meeting DMK ministers – Mano Thangaraj and Ma Subramaniam.

Three persons were arrested on Thursday for their alleged involvement in the rape and murder of a 19-year-old girl belonging to the Scheduled Caste community in Karnataka’s Bidar district, an official said.

Bidar Superintendent of Police Pradeep Gunti said that a case under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act has been filed along with rape and murder charges.

“Of the three accused, one hails from the same village (as that of the girl). The other two are from a neighbouring village. All the three are arrested, and legal action is initiated against them,” the police officer said, adding the incident in the Basavakalyan taluk. According to police, the girl had been missing since August 29.

The girl’s parents tried to trace her for two days. On August 31, they filed a complaint with the police. The body was eventually found in a bush on September 1. A deep head injury mark was spotted on her head.

Following the recovery of the body, the police registered a murder case. Rape charges were added to the case after the postmortem and forensic tests.

The police had then launched a hunt for the accused and managed to apprehend them. On Thursday, several groups, organisations and the opposition BJP in Karnataka condemned the incident and staged a protest demanding justice for the victim and her family.

The police learned during the probe that the victim knew the prime accused, and both were friends. The investigation revealed that the main accused had come in a car to pick up the victim and two other accused individuals.

Since then, she has never returned home, which worried her parents and caused them to begin looking for her. After they failed to learn about her whereabouts, they approached the police. A police officer said further investigation into the case is underway.
