DMK Scion Udhayanidhi Stalin, VCK Chief Thirumavalan, Expelled VCK Dy. Gen Sec. Aadhav Arjuna Peddle False Claims About Home Minister Amit Shah’s Comments On Dr. Ambedkar

DMK Scion Udhayanidhi Stalin, VCK Chief Thirumavalan, Expelled VCK Dy. Gen Sec. Aadhav Arjuna Peddle False Claims About Home Minister Amit Shah's Comments On Dr. Ambedkar

Following the Congress and its allies at the centre, who have been spreading a narrative accusing the BJP of being “anti-Ambedkar” and “anti-Dalit,” the DMK and Dravidianist ecosystem have jumped on the bandwagon, falsely claiming that Union Home Minister Amit Shah insulted Dr BR Ambedkar in his Rajya Sabha speech on December 17, 2024. However, when viewed in full context, Shah’s remarks aimed to criticise the Congress, not disrespecting Ambedkar. Despite this, the narrative was manipulated through selective video clipping and further propagated by political leaders like Udhayanidhi Stalin and others in the DMK ecosystem.

However, when viewed in full context, Amit Shah was not disrespecting the father of the Constitution, Ambedkar, but rather criticizing the Congress party. Despite this, the Congress and DMK ecosystem pushed a narrative by selectively clipping a 12-second segment of Shah’s speech, falsely claiming he spoke against Ambedkar.

After Congress and its allies peddled the narrative, the Dravidian ecosystem, grappling with administrative failures, seized the opportunity and further propagated it in the state.

In this regard, DMK scion and Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Udhayanidhi Stalin said, “We strongly condemn the slanderous statement made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, “No matter what, they say Ambedkar.. Ambedkar…” Instead of working as a tourist guide to find out where to go, Amit Shah should first properly take care of his responsibilities as Home Minister. If the fascists who are roaming around with a determination, thinking that they can somehow destroy the Constitution given by Ambedkar and gets irritated just by hearing Ambedkar’s name, then let us raise our voices, say his name a hundred more times! Long live Ambedkar! May Ambedkar’s fame rise!”

VCK chief Thirumavalavan stated, “How can Savarkar’s descendants tolerate the fact that the entire country is talking about revolutionary Ambedkar? #AmitShah has revealed how much they are fed up. He has torn off his own veil. This is the true face of the Sangh Parivar. The Constitution and revolutionary Ambedkar are their real enemies. This is what the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal has been continuously exposing. All the praise given by the Sangh Parivar to the revolutionary Ambedkar is a great act of deceiving the common people. The revolutionary Ambedkar takes the form of ‘universal form’ (Vishwaroopam). The conspiracy attempts of the Sanadhanis will be in ashes!”

Expelled VCK General Secretary Aadhav Arjun stated, “Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who came to power according to the Constitution of India, said, ‘Just saying Ambedkar, Ambedkar will not get you to heaven. It is condemnable that he said in Parliament that it has become fashionable to say ‘Ambedkar’. The Constitution brought by that Ambedkar is the reason why many sons of poor mothers, including the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, have achieved political power. That is what has led to widespread political rights for everyone today. Let those who go to heaven in the name of God shall go. But, let us go to the Legislative Assembly and Parliament on the path laid down by the revolutionary Ambedkar, travel on the legal path shown by the political system to win power for the people and create a government and an egalitarian society for all. Therefore, we say loudly, Long live the revolutionary Ambedkar!”

But contrary to the misleading claims propagated by the DMK and its ecosystem, Home Minister Amit Shah did not insult Dr. Ambedkar. Instead, he launched a fierce criticism of the Congress party, accusing it of treating the Constitution as its “private property.

During the debate on the “Glorious Journey of 75 Years of the Constitution of India,” Minister Shah remarked, “It has become a fashion to say Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar. If they had invoked God’s name that many times, they would have earned a place in heaven.”

Shah expressed that while the BJP welcomed the Congress’s acknowledgment of Dr. Ambedkar, the party should also express its genuine feelings towards him. He pointed out that Ambedkar had resigned from the first Cabinet due to disagreements with the Congress-led government’s policies, including its stance on Article 370. Shah further accused Congress of making several amendments to the Constitution for its own benefit, citing how Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had enacted the first constitutional amendment before the country’s first elections, which “limited freedom of expression.” “You treat the Congress like your family’s property, and now you treat the Constitution the same way,” Shah stated.

The Minister also criticized the Congress and opposition for blaming the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) after electoral defeats. He attacked Congress for its appeasement politics, accusing the party of attempting to break the 50% limit on quotas to extend reservations to the Muslim community.

NTK Chief Seeman Peddles False Propaganda On Home Minister Amit Shah’s Comments On Dr. Ambedkar

NTK Chief Seeman Peddles False Propaganda On Home Minister Amit Shah’s Comments On Dr. Ambedkar

The Congress seems to have mobilised non-BJP allies, like NTK and TVK, to speak up on their edited clip, which showed only a portion of what Union Home Minister Amit Shah said about Dr BR Ambedkar today in Parliament. This misleading attack stems from an edited 12-second clip of Shah’s Rajya Sabha speech on 17 December 2024. However, the full context of his remarks reveals that Shah was criticizing Congress for manipulating the Constitution, not disrespecting Ambedkar.

After Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam chief Vijay peddled false claims, it was the turn of Naam Tamilar Katchi chief Seeman to join the bandwagon.

Taking to his X handle, he wrote, “”Slogans like ‘Ambedkar! Ambedkar’ have become ‘fashionable’ now. Instead, chanting the name of God will at least secure a place in heaven.” Says the Honorable Union Home Minister Amit Shah. How can we believe that a God who does not give us food while we are alive will give us heaven after we die? Does heaven exist? No one knows. But if we say the name of the wise Ambedkar, we can turn the living earth into heaven. That is what the great Ambedkar lived and guided for. “I strive to create a beautiful and fulfilling life not in heaven but on the earth we live on,” said our grandfather Jeevanandam, the father of the philosophy of communism. Just as he taught us how to live in such a heaven, Ambedkar also tried to make his people live on the earth they live on. “You, who always chanted the name of God, were the ones who lost in Ayodhya. The one who chanted the name of Ambedkar won there. Now tell me, whose name are we to chant?”

What Congress Did

On 17 December 2024, Congress’s official social media account shared a 12-second clip of Amit Shah’s address during a two-day discussion in the Rajya Sabha marking 75 years of the Constitution. The clip included Shah saying, Now it has become a fashion- Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar… If you take the name of God this much, you would attain heaven for seven lives.” Amit Shah has said something very disgusting. This shows that the BJP and RSS leaders have a lot of hatred for Baba Saheb Ambedkar. The hatred is such that they are even irritated by his name. These are the same people whose ancestors used to burn the effigies of Baba Saheb, who themselves used to talk about changing the constitution given by Baba Saheb. When the public taught them a lesson, now they have become irritated with those who take the name of Baba Saheb. Shameful! Amit Shah should apologize to the country for this.”

What Amit Shah Actually Said

During the debate on the Glorious Journey of 75 Years of the Constitution of India,” Minister Shah remarked, “It has become a fashion to say Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar.

Shah further accused Congress of making several amendments to the Constitution for its own benefit, citing how Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had enacted the first constitutional amendment before the country’s first elections, which “limited freedom of expression.” “You treat the Congress like your family’s property, and now you treat the Constitution the same way, Shah stated.

Contrary to the false accusations from Congress and other political party leaders, Amit Shah did not insult Dr. Ambedkar. Instead, he highlighted how Congress has manipulated the Constitution to serve its own political interests.

Part-Time Work-From-Home Politician TVK Chief Vijay Brazenly Peddles False Claims About Home Minister Amit Shah’s Comments On Dr. Ambedkar

Part-Time Work-From-Home Politician TVK Chief Vijay Brazenly Peddles False Claims About Home Minister Amit Shah's Comments On Dr. Ambedkar

Tamil actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay joined the growing chorus of accusations against Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing him of insulting Dr BR Ambedkar. Vijay’s condemnation comes after Congress shared an edited video of Shah’s remarks in Parliament, where he allegedly disrespects Ambedkar.

However, when considering the whole context, Shah’s comments directly criticised Congress, not an attack on Ambedkar. During the debate on the 75th anniversary of the Constitution, Shah accused Congress of manipulating the Constitution for its political benefit and highlighted Ambedkar’s historical disagreements with the party. Despite the context, Congress and its allies continue propagating a distorted narrative.

Congress’s Doctored Video

Yet another time, the Congress has ensured a narrative is set to send the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party on the backfoot. Just like how they peddled the edited video of Union Home Minister Amit Shah allegedly saying BJP will remove reservation, this time the Congress shared an edited video of HM Amit Shah speaking in Parliament.

Congress leaders and their allies’ efforts to portray Amit Shah and the BJP as ‘anti-Ambedkar,’ ‘anti-Constitution,’ or ‘anti-Dalit’ crumble when the full context of Shah’s statement is considered.

On 17 December 2024, Congress’s official social media account shared a 12-second clip of Amit Shah’s address during a two-day discussion in the Rajya Sabha marking 75 years of the Constitution. Vijay Joins The Congress Bandwagon

After the Congress and other political party leaders peddled the narrative, joining the bandwagon is Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam leader, actor Vijay.

Taking to his official X account, he wrote, Some people may be allergic to the name Ambedkar. He was an incomparable political and intellectual figure who was held in high esteem by all the people of India who breathed the air of freedom. Ambedkar Ambedkar Ambedkar His name May the heart and lips rejoice. Let’s keep pronouncing it. We can never allow insults to our political leader. On behalf of the Tamil Nadu Victory Party, I strongly condemn the Union Home Minister for insulting the Prime Minister.”

During the debate on the Glorious Journey of 75 Years of the Constitution of India,Minister Shah remarked,It has become a fashion to say Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar. If they had invoked God’s name that many times, they would have earned a place in heaven.”

“Clip Katua Congress”: Congress Shares Edited Clip Of Amit Shah To Peddle Propaganda

"Clip Katua Congress": Congress Shares Edited Clip Of Amit Shah To Peddle Propaganda

The Congress party, along with its parliamentary allies, has launched a new narrative in the House, accusing Union Home Minister Amit Shah of allegedly insulting Dr BR Ambedkar in his Rajya Sabha speech on 17 December 2024. In the latest chapter of deep spins the party has woven a web of falsehoods, claiming that Shah’s comments disrespected Ambedkar.

While the Congress is known for spreading misinformation about its political opponents, this latest claim seems more about the party’s desperate attempt to score cheap political points against the BJP, rather than a genuine concern for Ambedkar’s legacy. It highlights the Congress’s tendency to create fabricated stories when reality doesn’t align with their political goals. The effort by Congress leaders and their allies to portray Amit Shah and the BJP as ‘anti-Ambedkar,’ ‘anti-Constitution,’ or ‘anti-Dalit’ crumbles when the full context of Shah’s statement is considered.

On 17 December 2024, Congress’s official social media account shared a 12-second clip of Amit Shah’s address during a two-day discussion in the Rajya Sabha marking 75 years of the Constitution. The clip included Shah saying, “Now it has become a fashion- Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar… If you take the name of God this much, you would attain heaven for seven lives.” Amit Shah has said something very disgusting.

Following suit, Congress Scion Rahul Gandhi stated, “Those who believe in Manusmriti will definitely have problems with Ambedkar ji.”

Congress leader and MP Jairam Ramesh stated, “Now it has become a fashion- Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar… If you take the name of God this much, you will attain heaven for seven lives.” Amit Shah has said something very disgusting.

Kerala Congress leader KC Venugopal took his criticism further stated, “HM @AmitShah, in case you didn’t know – Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar is equivalent to God and the Constitution he drafted is a Holy Book for crores of people across the world. How dare you speak about Dr. Ambedkar with such disdain? The BJP’s disgust towards Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar was always well known, and the Home Minister’s pathetic statements in the Rajya Sabha today further confirm how much they hate and detest Dr. Ambedkar. The worshippers of Manusmriti will always have scorn towards Dr Ambedkar, who rejected the horrible ideas espoused by the casteist RSS and their Manusmriti. Those who spoke of changing the Constitution if they won 400+ seats, are now openly mocking our country’s reverence for Dr. Ambedkar. Those who pretended to bow before him could not hide their true feelings for too long, and this dangerous statement from the BJP top brass shows they have lost the right to speak about Dr. Ambedkar ever again.”

Despite the original context being clarified on 17 December, the opposition’s attempt to label the BJP as ‘anti-Ambedkar’ or ‘anti-Dalit’ persisted. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee continued to promote their narrative, disregarding the fact that it was being debunked and criticized.

On 18 December 2024, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) stated, “#AmitShah’s insensitive remarks insulting Babasaheb #Ambedkar, have once again revealed the casteist, #Manuwadi mindset of the BJP-RSS.”

TMC chief and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee said, “The mask has fallen! As Parliament reflects on 75 glorious years of the Constitution, HM @AmitShah chose to TARNISH this occasion with DEROGATORY remarks against Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, that too in the temple of Democracy. This is a display of BJP’s CASTEIST and ANTI-DALIT mindset. If this is how they behave after being reduced to 240 seats, imagine the damage they would’ve inflicted if their dream of 400 seats had been realised. They’d have rewritten history to entirely erase Dr. Ambedkar’s contributions. HM Amit Shah’s remarks are an insult to the millions who look up to Babasaheb for guidance and inspiration. But what else can you expect from a party that has internalised HATE and BIGOTRY? Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar is the Father of the Constitution, this outrageous remark is not only an outright attack on him but all members of the Drafting Committee of the Constitution, which symbolised India’s unity in diversity with members from all castes, creeds, ethnicities, and religions.”

Contrary to the misleading claims spread by the Congress ecosystem, Home Minister Amit Shah did not insult Dr.

The Minister also criticized the Congress and opposition for blaming the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) after electoral defeats. He attacked Congress for its appeasement politics, accusing the party of attempting to break the 50% limit on quotas to extend reservations to the Muslim community.

Two Electricians Die Of Electrocution During Scheduled Maintenance In Trichy, Netizens Slam TANGEDCO Which Had Glorified Men Working Without Safety Measures

Two Electricians Die Of Electrocution During Scheduled Maintenance In Trichy, Netizens Slam TANGEDCO Which Had Glorified Men Working Without Safety Measures

Netizens are criticizing the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) and TANGEDCO following the tragic deaths of two contract electricians due to electrocution during a scheduled maintenance in Trichy.

Kalamani and Manickam, both working as contract electricians at the KK Nagar power station, were involved in the maintenance work on the Olaiyur Ring Road. Kalamani climbed a high-voltage electricity transmission tower for the maintenance, where he was electrocuted on the spot. Manickam, who was assisting him on the ground by holding the earth wire, was also electrocuted. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead upon arrival at the Trichy government hospital.

Despite claims by the electricity department that power had been shut off for the scheduled maintenance, this incident still occurred. A viral video of Kalamani being electrocuted on the tower has sparked outrage, with netizens criticizing TANGEDCO. The department had previously shared a video showcasing an electricity worker walking on live wires to trim tree branches, calling it an example of “dedication,” further fueling the backlash.

On 14 December 2024, TANGEDCO via its official X account stated, “The height of dedication to duty! The power outage that occurred in the Mukudal Express electrification station, which supplies river water to the electrification stations due to the floods that occurred in the Mukudal area of Kallidaikurichi Kottam, Tirunelveli on 12.12.24 & 13.12.24, has been repaired.” The video quickly went viral, with many netizens criticizing their social media department.

Centre Pays ₹4,820 Crore To 2.75 Lakh Farmers For Pulses Under MSP Scheme

Centre Pays ₹4,820 Crore To 2.75 Lakh Farmers For Pulses Under MSP Scheme

The Centre, during the 2023-24 rabi season, has procured 6.41 lakh metric tonnes of pulses at an MSP value of ₹4,820 crore which has benefited 2.75 lakh farmers, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare on Wednesday.

The procurement to support the farmers included 2.49 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of masoor, 43,000 MT of chana, and 3.48 LMT of moong. Similarly, 12.19 LMT of oilseeds of ₹6,900 crore of MSP value were procured from 5.29 lakh farmers.

During the start of the ongoing Kharif season, market prices of soyabean were ruling much below MSP prices, leading to great hardship to farmers. With the intervention of the Centre under the PSS scheme (a component of PM AASHA), 5.62 lakh LMT of soyabean has been procured at an MSP value of ₹ 2,700 crore, as of December 11 this year which has benefited 2.42 lakh farmers.

This is also the highest quantity of soyabean ever procured, the statement said. The procurement data since 2018-19, shows that around 195.39 LMT of pulses, oilseeds, and copra have been procured at an MSP value of ₹10.74 lakh crore benefiting 99.3 lakh farmers under the Centre’s Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay SanraksHan Abhiyan” (PM-AASHA) scheme.

The government is also promoting a Price Deficiency Payment Scheme (PDPS) as an option for oilseeds. This scheme aims at ensuring remunerative prices to the producers of oilseeds whose MSPs are notified by the Centre.

The PDPS envisages the direct payment of the price difference between the MSP and the selling price in notified markets up to 15 per cent of MSP value by the Central government to the pre-registered farmers selling the oilseeds, the official statement said. Another important component of PM AASHA is the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) meant for perishable agricultural commodities such as tomato, onion and potato, known as TOP crops not covered under MSP.

This scheme will immensely benefit the farmers growing these price-sensitive crops and consumers. The scheme is implemented at the request of the state/UT government when there is a reduction of prices in the market by at least 10 per cent over the rates of the previous normal season in the states/UTs, the statement said.

Under MIS, in place of physical procurement, states may have an option to make a differential payment between the market intervention price and selling price, subject to coverage of 25 per cent of the production of crops and a maximum price difference up to 25 per cent of MIP.

Further, in the case of TOP crops, where there is a price difference between the production and consuming states, in the interest of the farmers, the operational costs incurred by Central nodal agencies (CNAs) like NAFED and NCCF in storing and transporting crops from producing states to other consuming states will be reimbursed by the government, the statement said.

Moreover, there is a price disparity in these crops – prices are very low in producing states in contrast to very high prices in consuming states. This scheme will therefore play a critical role in bridging the price gap and countering the effect of price volatility, the statement added.

Kashmiri Historian Zareef Ahmad Zareef Whitewashes Kashmiri Hindu Genocide, Blames Brahmins & Caste System For Hindus Converting To Islam, Kashmiri News Reporter Yana Mir Amplifies

Kashmiri Historian Zareef Ahmad Zareef Whitewashes Kashmiri Hindu Genocide, Blames Brahmins & Caste System For Hindus Converting To Islam, Kashmiri News Reporter Yana Mir Amplifies

In what comes across as an outrageous lie and malicious propaganda, a video of Kashmiri historian and poet Zareef Ahmed Zareef blaming the caste system for Hindus in Kashmir converting to Islam has gone viral on social media.

The video clipping shared by Yana Mir, CEO of TRK News based out of Kashmir, she captions it as “Beautifully explained by Zareef sahb.. Why Hindus converted to Islam in Kashmir and possibly rest of India too Its time Brahmins realize this and give up targetting us and let us live in peace Reminder: us converting doesn’t mean we support killing of brahmins

In the video clip, Zareef says, “When we were Hindus, we were subjected to injustice. Brahmins had created the caste system. On the top is the superhuman, the Brahmin. After that level is the Vaishya. Then the Khatri was designated to trade. Then the fourth category of caste who they would call the Shudras. The most wretched of them all castes. They would be forbidden from going to public baths. If the Shudra touched their clothes, they burn those clothes. They would be seen as the most wretched – this was the Shudra. It caused the Shudras grave distress. That too I am a human being, I serve the Brahmin everything he needs. I take care of his cattle, feed them, and even milk them. But then I can’t even touch him? The Brahmin doesn’t let me swim in the river. He doesn’t let me drink from the well. What do I lack, I sow his crops, plant the seeds, water and winnow them, make the rice, and yet, treats me like an untouchable. It planted the seeds of realization. Right at this time, the Buddhist influence came from Central Asia through the Silk Road, from Tibet, China, Iran, Turan, Samarkand, Kashghar, Bukhara, Tashkent – the Muslims came from all these regions. The Muslims came as traders. They came with pashmina, shatoosh, dry fruits, crockery, ornaments, and jewellery. From here, they got work done on their pashmina, namda with our embroidery work. That’s how we got some prosperity. We looked at their clothes and liked it. We also liked their tasty cuisine. At first, individually, people slowly embraced the new faith until the mass conversion happened at the hands of Mir Syed Ali Hamdani. Anyone who embraced Islam was accepted, the ones who did not wasn’t forced.”

Zareef Ahmed Zareef’s attempts to blame the caste system for the conversion of Hindus to Islam in Kashmir are not only historically inaccurate but also a dangerous distortion of the region’s complex history. His portrayal of the caste system as the sole driver behind conversions conveniently ignores the documented genocide of Kashmiri Hindus during the medieval period, a brutal chapter of history that Zareef has chosen to whitewash. Moreover, while he critiques Hinduism’s caste system, he conveniently overlooks the presence of a similar hierarchical structure within Islam, which also divides people into inferior and superior categories.

By presenting this narrative, Zareef is engaging in harmful propaganda that distracts from the real issues at hand, including the history of religious persecution, forced conversions, and the ongoing struggle of Kashmiri Hindus. His statements not only undermine the painful reality of the Kashmiri Pandit genocide but also promote a revisionist agenda that erases the lived experiences of those who suffered.

Worse yet, Yana Mir, by amplifying this false narrative, is further perpetuating these misleading claims, giving them a platform and contributing to the spread of dangerous propaganda. Zareef’s claims and Mir’s promotion of them are a disservice to both the truth and the ongoing fight for justice.

11 Major Public Health Achievements In India Under Modi Government

11 Major Public Health Achievements In India Under Modi Government

The latest WHO report highlights India, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, made remarkable strides against diseases, including a 69% drop in malaria cases, the elimination of trachoma, and significant progress in tackling HIV, TB, and kala-azar, cementing its role as a global leader in public health.

On 11 December 2024, a WHO report disclosed that malaria cases in Bharat declined by 69% from 6.4 million in 2017 to 2 million in 2023. Similarly, malaria-related deaths were reduced by the same percentage, dropping from 11,100 to 3,500 during the same period. The report highlights 11 significant achievements – be it a reduction in various diseases across Bharat or specific states, or awards won, showcasing remarkable advancements in combating life-threatening illnesses.

69% drop In Malaria Cases Between 2017 And 2023

India has made remarkable progress in reducing its malaria burden, as highlighted in the 2024 World Malaria Report. From 2017 to 2023, malaria cases dropped by 69%, from 6.4 million to 2 million, while deaths decreased by the same percentage, from 11,100 to 3,500. This success is attributed to a multi-sectoral approach, strong political commitment, and effective interventions such as Artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT), long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs), and targeted measures in high-risk areas like Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and the North-East. Improved monitoring and new-generation insecticide-treated nets also played a crucial role. Globally, between 2000 and 2023, 2.2 billion malaria cases and 12.7 million deaths were averted. Additionally, more countries are adopting malaria vaccines, and WHO has certified 44 nations and one territory as malaria-free, with Egypt being the most recent addition.

44% Reduction In New HIV Infections Since 2010

India has achieved a significant 44% reduction in new annual HIV infections since 2010, surpassing the global average reduction rate of 39%. This progress underscores the nation’s commitment to ending HIV/AIDS by 2030, as reiterated by Union Minister of State for Health, Anupriya Patel, during the UN eventRevitalized Multilateralism: Recommitting to Ending AIDS Togetheron September 25, 2024. Key initiatives contributing to this success include the 5th National AIDS and STD Control Programme, youth-focused awareness campaigns, and the provision of free antiretroviral therapy to over 1.7 million individuals. India also supplies 70% of the world’s antiretroviral drugs. Comprehensive testing, legal protections under the HIV and AIDS (Prevention and Control) Act, 2017, and integration with broader health programs further bolster these efforts. This achievement reflects India’s dedication to global health and its pivotal role in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

India Eliminates Trachoma Disease Completely

On 8 October 2024, India was recognized by the WHO South-East Asia Region for eliminating trachoma as a public health problem, marking a significant milestone in eye health. Trachoma, a leading cause of blindness, was responsible for 4% of blindness cases in India in 2005. By 2018, its prevalence had dropped to 0.008%. This achievement was made possible through the WHO-recommended SAFE strategy, which includes surgery, antibiotics, facial cleanliness, and environmental improvements, alongside national initiatives like the Swachh Bharat Mission and Jal Jeevan Mission.

India’s efforts, led by the Ministry of Health, involved effective surveillance, trichiasis surgeries, and widespread community awareness campaigns. WHO validated this achievement after rigorous surveys confirmed that the elimination targets had been met. India now joins 19 other countries in achieving this feat, showcasing its commitment to universal health coverage and serving as an inspiration for global efforts against neglected tropical diseases.

Missing TB Cases Drops to 2.3 Lakh in 2023

The India TB Report 2024 highlights India’s significant progress in tuberculosis (TB) control. The number of missing TB cases dropped to 2.3 lakh in 2023 from 3.2 lakh in 2022, aided by the government’s Ni-kshay portal, which tracks all TB patients. India also achieved its 2023 target of initiating treatment for 95% of diagnosed patients, with improved access to drug resistance testing (58% in 2023, up from 25% in 2015).

The private sector contributed 33% of the 25.5 lakh reported cases in 2023, a major increase from just 1.9 lakh cases in 2015. The estimated TB incidence slightly rose to 27.8 lakh in 2023, with mortality steady at 3.2 lakh. Government initiatives, including state-level workshops, social media campaigns, and local engagement, played a key role in this progress, reflecting India’s commitment to eliminating TB and improving health outcomes.

Kala-Azar Cases Dropped By 98.7% In India Since 2007

India has achieved a 98.7% reduction in kala-azar cases, dropping from 44,533 in 2007 to just 834 in 2022, according to Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. Of the 632 endemic blocks across Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and West Bengal, 99.8% have achieved elimination status (less than one case per 10,000 population), with only Littipara block in Jharkhand remaining endemic.

Kala-azar, the deadliest parasitic disease after malaria, disproportionately affects poor populations. India, contributing 11.5% of global cases, is committed to eradicating the disease by 2023. Initiatives include housing schemes under the PM-AWAS Yojana, electrification, active surveillance, free treatment, and periodic reviews. Over 90% of current cases originate from Bihar and Jharkhand, with Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal already meeting elimination targets.

47% Of Enrolled Patients Achieved Blood Pressure Control

India has made significant progress in hypertension control through the India Hypertension Control Initiative (IHCI), launched in 2017. By 2022, the program expanded to over 20,000 healthcare centres across 25 states, enrolling 40 lakh patients, with 47% achieving blood pressure control. Hypertension, affecting 20 crore adults in India, is a leading cause of heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure.

The IHCI focuses on standardized treatment, ensuring drug availability, training healthcare workers, and using technology for monitoring and patient care. Initiatives like the National Health Policy and Ayushman Bharat Yojana complement these efforts. Despite challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic, the IHCI adapted with teleconsultations and community drug distribution.

The program aims to screen and treat 75 million people by 2025 under the75/25initiative. Recognized globally, IHCI is improving equitable access to care, reducing uncontrolled hypertension, and strengthening primary healthcare systems.

UP’sHar Ghar Nal Se Jal’ Scheme Helped Reduce Encephalitis Deaths To Zero

Uttar Pradesh achieved a major public health milestone in 2024 by recording zero deaths from Japanese Encephalitis (JE) and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES), a significant improvement from the 2005-2017 period when over 50,000 children died from these diseases. Cases of AES dropped from 1,472 in 2018 to 116 in 2024, while JE cases fell from 174 to just 5. The success is attributed to theHar Ghar Nal Se Jal’ scheme under the Jal Jeevan Mission, which provided clean tap water to 85-92% of households in the worst-affected districts, including Gorakhpur, Maharajganj, and Siddharthnagar. Clean water access curbed water-borne infections and bolstered health resilience, especially in mosquito-prone areas. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s focused efforts since 2017 played a pivotal role in reversing the region’s health crisis.

Rajasthan Achieves Highest Decline In Maternal Deaths

Rajasthan has achieved the highest decline in Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) in India, dropping from 141 deaths per 1 lakh live births in 2017-19 to 113 in 2019-20. Key factors contributing to this improvement include a rise in institutional deliveries to 95%, training for healthcare staff under the Dakshta program, and improved referrals for high-risk pregnancies. These efforts have significantly reduced preventable maternal deaths, which are often caused by complications during pregnancy and childbirth. However, the state aims to reduce MMR further to 70 or below by 2030, in line with national health targets.

Maharashtra Sees 11% Drop In Infant Mortality Since 2020

Maharashtra has achieved an 11% decline in child deaths over the past four years, from 19,185 in 2019-20 to 17,150 in 2022-23, with a 15% reduction in infant deaths. Neonatal deaths decreased by 9%, and deaths in children aged 1-5 years fell by 13%. Key factors include increased prenatal counseling, the establishment of Special Newborn Care Units, and the Mother Absolute Affection program. However, activists stress the need to focus on rural and tribal areas, where child malnutrition and infant mortality remain high. The state aims to reduce infant mortality to single digits within 3-5 years.

Parental Leave Declines For First Time In South Korea Amid Falling Marriages, Childbirths

Parental Leave Declines For First Time In South Korea Amid Falling Marriages, Childbirths

Data showed on Wednesday that the number of South Korean workers taking parental leave fell for the first time in 2023, reflecting a broader decline in marriages and childbirths.

According to data compiled by Statistics Korea, 195,986 workers took or began to take time off from work to care for their children last year, down 3 percent from a year earlier, Yonhap news agency reported.

It marked the first annual fall since the agency began compiling relevant data in 2010. The figures had shown consistent growth, supported by government initiatives. Under South Korean law, parents of children aged 8 years or younger, or those in the second grade of elementary school or below, are eligible for up to one year of maternity or paternity leave.

The government provides financial assistance to employment insurance subscribers who take parental leave to address the nation’s prolonged ultra-low birthrate. In 2023, the country’s total fertility rate — indicating the average number of children a woman is expected to have in her lifetime — dropped to 0.72, marking the lowest level since 1970, according to earlier data from Statistics Korea.

According to separate data, the number of newly married couples in South Korea reached 974,000 in 2023, down from 1.03 million the previous year. Women accounted for 75.3 per cent of all workers who took parental leave last year, with the number of women taking maternity leave slipping by 1.4 per cent from the previous year.

The number of male workers taking parental leave dropped 7.5 per cent year over year to 50,455. The decline comes after the figure surpassed the 50,000 mark for the first time in 2022, following years of gradual growth.

By age, women aged 30-34 accounted for the biggest portion of all mothers who took maternity leave, at 41.3 percent, followed by those aged 35-39 at 33.5 percent. Among male workers, those aged 35-39 accounted for the largest portion, 38.2 percent, followed by those in their 40s at 35.7 percent.

The agency noted the average age of parents taking parental leave has gradually increased, reflecting a trend of delayed marriage and childbirth. Of the male workers who took leave, 70% were affiliated with companies with 300 or more employees. The proportion came to 58.2 per cent for working mothers.

By industry, employees in the manufacturing sector accounted for 22.4 percent of fathers who took such leave, followed by 20.5 percent in the public administration and defense sector. Among mothers, those working in the public health and welfare segment took up the largest share, 19.4 percent, followed by those in the public administration and defense sector at 14.6 percent and the education service field at 11.8 percent, the data showed.

‘What Was The Prohibition Enforcement Wing Doing?’ Madras HC Questions TN Govt’s Inaction In Kallakurichi Hooch Tragedy

'What Was The Prohibition Enforcement Wing Doing?' Madras HC Questions TN Govt's Inaction In Kallakurichi Hooch Tragedy

The Madras High Court strongly questioned the Tamil Nadu government during a hearing on petitions challenging the imprisonment of individuals under the Goondas Act in the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy liquor death case. The court asked, “What was the Prohibition Enforcement Wing doing without stopping it?” The incident, in which 69 people died after consuming illicit liquor in Kallakurichi’s Karunapuram area last June, shocked Tamil Nadu. A total of 22 individuals, including liquor dealers, were arrested in connection with the deaths. The bench scheduled the final hearing for 6 January 2025.

Among those arrested in the case, 18 were detained under the Goondas Act. Their petitions to revoke the Goondas Act charges were heard by Justices S.M. Subramaniam and M. Jyothiraman of the Madras High Court. Tamil Nadu’s Attorney General, P.S. Raman, presented a response in the case and requested an adjournment until 6 January, for the final hearing. During the proceedings, the judges questioned the justification for applying the Goondas Act to all the arrested individuals. In reply, the Attorney General stated that they had been involved in the illegal sale of alcohol for years, and that the district had been in turmoil following the deaths from the poisoned liquor.

The judges then raised a critical question: “If illicit liquor sales had been ongoing for so long, what was the Prohibition Enforcement Wing doing to stop it?” They emphasized that the government’s failure to prevent this situation should also be considered. Subsequently, the judges adjourned the hearing until 6 January.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has upheld the Madras High Court’s decision to transfer the investigation of the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), rejecting the Tamil Nadu government’s appeal. The bench, comprising Justices Pardiwala and Mahadevan, stated that the CBI was the appropriate agency for the case due to its inter-state implications involving Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and other areas. The court emphasized that there were no obstacles to the CBI’s investigation, reinforcing the High Court’s ruling.

The Tamil Nadu government had argued that its police had made significant progress, including 24 arrests, tracing the methanol source, and examining key witnesses. The state also noted the appointment of a one-man commission led by Justice (Retd.) B. Gokuldas and the transfer of the case to the CB-CID, which was awaiting toxicology reports. However, the Supreme Court emphasized the need for an impartial investigation by the CBI, citing public dissatisfaction with previous investigations into similar hooch tragedies. Petitioners from AIADMK, PMK, and BJP had argued that systemic failures warranted a central investigation to ensure accountability and justice.
