Maha Kumbh Mela Concludes With Over 1.32 Crore Devotees Taking ‘Amrit Snan’ On Maha Shivaratri

Maha Kumbh 2025 Drives Visa Application Growth For Spiritual Travel In India

The 45-day-long Maha Kumbh Mela, one of the largest and most spiritually significant events in the world, came to a spectacular close on Wednesday as millions of devotees gathered at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj for the final ‘Amrit Snan’ (holy dip) on the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivratri.

With chants of “Har Har Mahadev” echoing through the sacred grounds, over 1.32 crore pilgrims took part in the ritual, marking the culmination of this grand spiritual gathering.

The event, which began over a month ago, saw a steady stream of devotees from across India and beyond flocking to Prayagraj to bathe in the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and the mythical Sarasvati rivers. As the sun rose on Maha Shivratri, the holy waters of the Sangam became a symbol of divine purification, with devotees immersing themselves in the belief that this sacred act would cleanse their souls and grant them blessings from Lord Shiva.

The scale of the Maha Kumbh Mela this year has been unparalleled. Official reports confirm that over 65 crore people have visited Prayagraj during the 45-day event, making it one of the largest religious gatherings on earth.

The festival has not only captured the imagination of devotees but has also garnered extensive international media coverage. Publications like ‘The Wall Street Journal’ highlighted the extraordinary number of participants, pointing out that the Kumbh Mela hosted more pilgrims than the entire population of the US. Meanwhile, ‘CNN’ provided in-depth coverage of the rituals, focusing on the presence of ash-smeared Naga Sadhus and the deeply rooted spiritual traditions observed at the Sangam.

The massive influx of devotees and visitors has led to significant logistical challenges, but the event has been marked by seamless coordination.

Security and crowd control measures were heightened to ensure the safety of the attendees. Police forces, paramilitary units, and disaster response teams worked tirelessly, while advanced technology, such as AI-enabled cameras and surveillance drones, was deployed to monitor the crowds in real time.

These measures helped maintain order amidst the throngs of people, ensuring that the sacred rituals went uninterrupted. Managing the logistics of such a massive gathering required a great deal of preparation. Authorities ensured that a “no vehicle zone” was enforced in the Mela area and throughout Prayagraj to reduce congestion.

Special trains were arranged to transport pilgrims, and the North Eastern Railway (NER) deployed additional trains to handle the heavy rush of travellers.

The Uttar Pradesh government worked closely with law enforcement agencies, disaster management forces, and medical teams to provide a safe environment for the devotees. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday personally monitored the situation from the control room in Gorakhpur, ensuring that everything ran smoothly as millions gathered to perform their sacred rituals. His efforts were complemented by an extensive security presence, including the deployment of police and paramilitary forces, who helped ensure the safety of the pilgrims while maintaining the sanctity of the event.

One of the most visually stunning moments of the closing day was the grand floral shower at the Sangam. In a traditional gesture of respect and reverence, 20 quintals of rose petals were showered on the devotees as they took their final dip. The sight of these delicate petals falling from the sky created a magical atmosphere, further enhancing the spiritual significance of the occasion.

The petals, which covered the pilgrims in a blanket of fragrant beauty, symbolised divine blessings and the fulfilment of the devotees’ wishes. The rose petal shower was organised by the Uttar Pradesh government, led by Yogi Adityanath, as a way to honour the devotees who had participated in the final ritual of the Kumbh Mela.

This gesture added a touch of grandeur and festivity to the concluding moments of the event, leaving everyone present with a sense of profound spiritual connection. Maha Kumbh Mela is more than just a religious event; it is a celebration of faith, unity, and the enduring spirit of devotion.

Throughout the 45-day festival, pilgrims from all walks of life came together to participate in the sacred rituals, regardless of their background or status. The sight of millions of devotees, from different parts of India and the world, coming together to bathe in the holy waters of the Sangam serves as a testament to the power of spirituality to bring people together.

The festival’s significance is not just in the religious rituals but also in its capacity to unite individuals across regional, cultural, and linguistic boundaries. As millions converged at the Sangam, they were reminded of their shared heritage and collective spiritual journey. The Maha Kumbh Mela thus stands as a symbol of India’s rich spiritual tradition, one that continues to inspire people from all corners of the globe.

Over the course of the event, the Maha Kumbh Mela witnessed six key bathing dates, including Paush Purnima, Makar Sankranti, Mauni Amavasya, Basant Panchami, Maghi Purnima, and Maha Shivratri. These dates were marked by large gatherings of devotees, each participating in a different aspect of the festival, from the sacred dips at the Sangam to prayer ceremonies at the temporary temples built for the occasion.

The final day of the Kumbh, Maha Shivratri, was particularly significant, as it marked both the closing of the festival and the culmination of weeks of devotion. The day was not just about taking a holy dip; it was a celebration of Lord Shiva, his cosmic dance, and the divine love between him and Goddess Parvati.

On this day, devotees offered prayers, performed rituals, and recited hymns in unison, reinforcing their devotion and spiritual resolve. The Maha Kumbh Mela, though deeply rooted in Indian culture, has become a global event, attracting not only Indians but also people from across the world. Pilgrims and tourists from countries such as Nepal, and Sri Lanka, and even distant places like the US, Russia, Italy and Japan participated in the festivities, drawn by the sheer scale and the unique spiritual experience offered by the festival.

For many, the Maha Kumbh Mela is not just a religious event but a life-changing experience—an opportunity to cleanse the soul, seek blessings, and connect with millions of others in a collective expression of faith. As the final ‘Amrit Snan’ on Maha Shivratri brought down the curtains on the 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela, the event left behind a lasting impact on all who participated. From the grand flower showers to the mesmerising sight of pilgrims immersing themselves in the holy waters, this year’s Maha Kumbh Mela will remain etched in the hearts of millions as a celebration of faith, unity, and divine blessings.

Maharashtra To Sign MoU With ‘Youth For Jobs’ To Generate Employment For Divyangs

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday said that the state government will soon sign an MoU with ‘Youth for Jobs’ organisation for employment of divyang (disabled) youth in Maharashtra. Initially, the organisation will assist the government in Vidarbha and North Maharashtra in creating employment and self-employment opportunities.

The state government and local district administrations will provide full support for this initiative. CM Fadnavis expressed confidence that local voluntary organisations will also step forward to contribute to the overall development of society. “The state government is committed to providing training and employment opportunities to disabled youth, ensuring their economic self-reliance. In this regard, registered disabled individuals in the state will be provided with a Unique Disability ID (UDID) over the next five years, facilitating their access to employment and self-employment opportunities. The government is effectively implementing schemes for the disabled, while voluntary organisations are also stepping forward for their development,” said the CM.

He further added, “The state government will soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the ‘Youth for Jobs’ organisation. Initially, the organisation will assist the government in Vidarbha and North Maharashtra in creating employment and self-employment opportunities, with plans to expand this initiative across the state in the future. This will provide employment to disabled youth.”

He said that the government is always keen on ensuring that divyangs receive their rightful benefits and full access to announced schemes. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched several important schemes and decisions to realise the vision of a ‘Developed India.’ To generate more employment opportunities through skill-based education, the Skill Development Department has been established. In line with this, the state government is also making significant decisions for the welfare of the youth,” he added.

To ensure that all divyangs in the state benefit from government schemes, an updated database is being prepared. A 100 per cent registration drive is being conducted, and registered disabled individuals are being issued a UDID. The state government is making every effort to ensure that disabled individuals receive all the benefits of central and state government schemes, reads the government release. According to the government release, the ‘Youth for Jobs’ organisation, founded and chaired by Meera Shenoy, has successfully worked with the central government and the Gadchiroli district administration to enhance employment opportunities for divyang youth.

Training is provided based on the type of disability, and job fairs are organised to connect trained individuals with industry demands. Companies such as Lifestyle International, Aditya Birla Fashion, Reliance Trends, IIFL, Milan Coffee House, HPCL, BPCL, Sahyog Multi-State Credit Cooperative Society, local automobile dealers, and Disha Manpower & Security are among the private sector employers involved in this initiative. Additionally, self-employment opportunities are being created for those unable to work in jobs, integrating them into the mainstream society. This model will be implemented across all districts in Maharashtra to generate employment opportunities for the disabled, reads the government release.

“Will Root Out Anti-National Activities From Tamil Nadu”: Amit Shah Slams DMK

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday rebutted Tamil Nadu Chief Minister D.K. Stalin’s claim that the Centre was withholding funds to the southern state, revealing that PM Narendra Modi-led government had provided it over Rs 5 lakh crore since 2014. Tamil Nadu was allocated Rs 5,08,337 crore between 2014 and 2024, significantly more than what was allocated during the UPA regime, he said.

He also said that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will form the government in Tamil Nadu after the 2026 Legislative Assembly elections. In his remarks after inaugurating the BJP office in Coimbatore and the e-inauguration of two other district offices in Tiruvannamalai and Ramanathapuram, the senior BJP leader urged party cadres to prepare for a BJP-led NDA government in the state.

He emphasised that the new government would eliminate nepotism and corruption while ushering in an era of development. Targeting the ruling DMK, Minister Shah alleged that its leaders were deeply involved in corruption. He claimed that while one DMK leader was embroiled in a cash-for-jobs scam, another was involved in illegal sand mining and money laundering. He further stated that some leaders were facing disproportionate assets cases.

“All those involved in corruption should take membership in the DMK,” he remarked sarcastically. The Union Home Minister also accused CM Stalin and his son and Deputy Chief Minister, Udhayanidhi Stalin, of raising diversionary issues to shift public focus from real concerns.

Amit Shah also said that anti-national activities happening in Tamil Nadu will be completely rooted out in 2026 once NDA comes to power in the state.

He specifically referred to CM Stalin’s decision to call for an all-party meeting on March 5 to discuss the upcoming delimitation exercise. Amit Shah reassured that Prime Minister Modi had already clarified that no parliamentary seats would be reduced for southern states as a result of the delimitation process.

He emphasised that the redrawing of constituencies based on population levels would not affect the proportion of Lok Sabha MPs from the southern states. He accused the DMK government of unnecessarily fuelling concerns over the delimitation process to distract from pressing governance issues. The delimitation exercise, expected to take place next year, has become a major point of contention between the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government and the BJP-led Centre. On Tuesday, Chief Minister Stalin announced an all-party meeting on March 5 to deliberate on the issue.

Got Justice Due To PM Modi: 1984 Riot Victims Express Gratitude For Life Term To Former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar

Following the recent life sentence handed to former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar for his involvement in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, victims’ families are still grappling with the pain of a justice system they feel has failed them.

However, they expressed gratefulness to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ensuring that they got justice. While the Rouse Avenue Court’s ruling brought closure for many, some victims still feel it falls short of true justice, demanding that Sajjan Kumar should have been given harsher punishment, like the death penalty.

In an emotional response, several victims’ families expressed gratitude to PM Modi, acknowledging the government’s support. Talking to IANS, Atar Kaur, a victim of the violence said, “The Congress party did wrong. The honour of our daughters-in-law and daughters was stolen. My relative, Gurdeep Kaur, was murdered right before our eyes. The killing of Sikhs was not random; it was targeted. We haven’t received true justice for the atrocities we suffered.”

Mentioning Congress leader Rahul Gandhi she said: “He speaks of his grandmother Indira Gandhi’s assassination, but why can’t he understand the pain we endured? Memories of the riots still haunt us. Sajjan Kumar should have been hanged.”

Kuldeep Kaur also voiced her dissatisfaction with the verdict: “This decision is not in our favour. We hoped for Sajjan Kumar’s execution. He was protected under the Congress, but we want to thank PM Modi for ensuring he is punished. It is because of Modi’s government that justice was served. We will continue to fight for a harsher punishment and will knock on the court’s doors until Sajjan Kumar is hanged.”

Lakshmi Kaur also recalled the horrors she experienced: “Two of my family members were burnt alive. We can never forget the Congress government’s atrocities. Under PM Modi, we had hope for justice when no one listened to us before. We were left starving and without shelter for days. This stain on the Congress will never be erased.”

Atma Singh, from the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, called for more accountability, particularly from Congress leader Kamal Nath, saying, “Those who are guilty must be punished. If PM Modi’s government hadn’t come to power, Sajjan Kumar would never have been convicted. We owe our survival to the support of PM Modi. We were forced to beg for food for a year-and-a-half, and it all stemmed from the Congress government’s actions. We didn’t kill Indira Gandhi, then why were our families slaughtered?”

Pope Critical But Stable, No Clue On Way Ahead For Vatican

The condition of Pope Francis presently in a hospital in his home country continues to remain critical but stable, said a Cardinal. Speaking to IANS, an Indian cardinal on condition of anonymity said the Pope continues to remain the same, and as things remain, there is no word on the way ahead.

“The general norm if a Pope decides to step down, like what happened when his predecessor Pope Benedict XVI did in 2013, a meeting of all the cardinals is called and the decision to retire is taken. Even when I say that this is the general norm, it can also happen without the meeting too,” said the Cardinal.

“So far no such meeting has been called,” said the Indian cardinal who did not wish to be identified. In India, there are at present four cardinals.

When asked how a Pope is elected, he said the electoral college consists of cardinals and all those below the age of 80 vote for the new Pope. “All cardinals who have voting rights are eligible to the post of Pope. If my memory is right there are around 130 cardinals who can vote to elect the next Pope, but if one takes the total number of cardinals who are above 80 years, then the number is even more,” said the Cardinal.

“Of the four cardinals in India, one of them will cross 80 in May,” added the Cardinal.

He also pointed out that the newest Cardinal from Kerala and India is Catholic priest George Jacob Koovakad who was directly elevated to the exalted status of Cardinal in December last year, from a priest, unlike many others who were bishops before their elevation.

“This new cardinal has been based in the Vatican and continues to be there,” said the Cardinal.

Incidentally in Kerala, there are three Catholic rites which include the Syro-Malabar, Latin and the Syro Malankara Churches.

These three Churches account for more than 50 per cent of the Christians in Kerala, which constitute about 17 per cent of the 3.30 crore state population. –IANS

“What Bro! Practice What You Preach Bro”: Annamalai Gives Befitting Reply To Part-Time Politician Vijay Who Runs CBSE School That Teaches Hindi But Wants 2 Language Policy In Govt Schools

Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai took a swipe at part-time politician Vijay for his inconsistent position on the language policy, especially after he once again opposed the idea of introducing a third language during his party’s second anniversary celebration. Speaking to a crowd in Coimbatore, Annamalai questioned why Vijay’s children and the school he runs, Vijay Vidhyashram, follow a three-language policy, while his party (Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam) cadres are expected to study under a two-language system.

Annamalai remarked, “I want to tell Vijay, practice what you preach, bro. Why bro are you spreading lies? Your children study three languages, and your school Vijay Vidhyashram follows a three-language policy. But the children of TVK party cadres are expected to study just two languages? What bro? Practice what you preach bro!”

This criticism followed Vijay’s involvement in the ongoing language debate between the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government and the BJP-led Centre. During TVK’s first-anniversary event, Vijay targeted both the state and central governments, accusing them of misleading the public while pretending to have differences on the issue. He also ridiculed the Centre’s position on the National Education Policy (NEP), comparing the political dispute to a childish argument.

Vijay also mocked the BJP and DMK’s social media clashes over the language issue, saying, “They’re just playing on social media with hashtags, pretending to fight, and expect us to buy it. What bro, that’s really wrong, bro.”

Annamalai didn’t stop there, also taking aim at Vijay’s involvement in the #GetOut campaign, launched at TVK’s anniversary event. Vijay, along with party leaders Aadhav Arjun and N Anand, signed a board with the message “Get Out,” but Annamalai pointed out that political strategist Prashant Kishor, who played a significant role in the 2021 DMK victory, did not sign the board.

“Don’t Impose Another Language”: Says TVK Chief Vijay Who Runs A CBSE School Vijay Vidyashram That Teaches Hindi

The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s second-year commencement celebration took place in Chengalpattu district on 26 February 2025 morning. Party president, part-time politician, and full-time actor Vijay criticized both the state and central governments, accusing them of engaging in political maneuvering over the three-language policy issue.

Speaking to the cadre he said, “Now they have just raised a new problem, the three-language policy, that is if this is not implemented here, they will not give this education fund to our state government. You know how these LKG-UKG kids fight, they are doing the same thing. It is their (centre) duty to give, and it is their (DMK) right to take, but do they even realize how serious this problem is? These two people are our fascism, our payasam – our political enemy and our principle enemy. What are these two people doing? Both of them discuss among themselves, do all this “setting“, and then play with hashtags on social media. What is going on here? These two pretend to beat each other up and they expect us to believe them. They expect the people to believe it. What bro, it’s very wrong, bro. We do not have to explain all this to the people. They know how big a deception this is. Our land is a land of self-respect. We respect everyone, but we will not give up self-respect for anyone or anything. We respect all languages. There are no two ways about it. Personally, anyone can study in any school they want. You can learn any language you want, whenever you want, whenever you feel like it. That’s all their personal right. But if you violate the federal principle and question the language policy of a state government and forcefully impose another language, that too politically, impose another language, what is this bro? Therefore, on behalf of our Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, we will reject all this false propaganda and firmly oppose this.”

Vijay Runs A CBSE School Near Chennai That Offers Hindi As Part Of Curriculum

The hypocrisy of actor and part-time politician C. Joseph Vijay has been exposed, as it has come to light that he operates a CBSE school in Chennai that adheres to the very three-language policy his party claims to oppose. While his party vehemently opposes the three-language policy introduced through the National Education Policy (NEP), it has now come to light that Vijay himself runs a CBSE school in Chennai that follows the very policy he condemns.

Vijay Vidyashram, an English-medium CBSE school located in Padur near Chennai, follows the three-language policy.

A flyer seeking applications for teachers for Hindi and a few other subjects was shared on social media following his anti-Hindi and anti-NEP remarks. The flyer advertised vacancy for teachers for the subjects English, Maths, Hindi, Science, Computer Science, Social Studies, and PT.

Some videos of the students at the school have been circulating on social media. These are most likely from the school’s Instagram handle. In one such video is a Hindi play performed by Class 3 students.

This is from a performance for Hindi Diwas.

In another post, we find a picture of two students on the occasion of of Hindi Pariyojana Diwas.

The post caption reads, “Echo of Hindi tradition! We had a lively celebration of Hindi culture on our Project Day, where students showcased their talents through music, dance and art. We are grateful to have this opportunity to preserve and promote our cultural heritage!

The school literally celebrates Hindi language and conducts several programmes around the subject in conjuction with the prescribed NEP syllabus.

From opposing Hindi to NEP, Vijay has exposed his hypocrisy blatantly – do one thing and preach something else for the general public to gain political traction.

Evidence Of Vijay’s Link To Vijay Vidyashram

Here are documents accessed by The Commune that prove that the school is linked to part-time politician Vijay.

The land on which Vijay Vidyashram is built is owned by C. Joseph Vijay, as documented in the Sale Deed. He has leased the 10,724-square-meter property to the school. The Certificate of Land confirms that Vijay Vidyashram holds the land, and the lease agreement was made in favor of the school by Joseph Vijay.

The blatant hypocrisy of C. Joseph Vijay cannot be ignored. While he vocally criticizes the three-language policy and presents himself as a champion of Tamil, the inconvenient truth is that he runs a CBSE school in Chennai that directly follows the very policy he claims to oppose. His attempt to position himself as a defender of Tamil language rights crumbles in the face of this exposed contradiction.

“Time Has Come To Eradicate The Corrupt And Anti-National DMK Govt”: Home Minister Amit Shah Trains Guns On MK Stalin

amit shah stalin dmk

Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Coimbatore on 25 February 2025 night on a special flight from Bhopal. On the morning of 26 February 2025, he inaugurated the BJP’s district headquarters in the city before heading to the Isha Yoga Foundation to participate in the Maha Shivaratri celebrations.

Speaking at a public meeting in Coimbatore, Shah said, “In 2024, we have formed the govt in Odisha with a full majority for the first time. After a long time, Andhra Pradesh now has the NDA government. Haryana, Mumbai/Maharashtra and Delhi, the hattrick of victories has proved that the people’s faith lies with the BJP. The year 2025 began with the victory in Delhi, and 2026 will begin with the victory of NDA in Tamil Nadu. I have come to give a clarion call to all the karyakartas of BJP in Tamil Nadu. Time has come to remove the anti-national and corrupt DMK government of Tamil Nadu.”

He also said that all the forces that are anti-national in nature and against nationalism will be uprooted by 2026. Shah continued to enumerate the schemes and pro-Tamil actions taken by Prime Minister Modi.

Training his guns at TN CM Stalin and spitting facts, he said, “Compared to the entire country, the state of law and order is the worst in Tamil Nadu. Women are unsafe even in Universities. The culprits of Vengaivayal have not been punished yet. The perpetrators of the 1998 bomb blasts were given protection during their funeral. Synthetic drugs mafia is working in cahoots with the ruling party, so is the mineral and sand mining. DMK leaders have done master’s degree in corruption. One leader is caught in cash for jobs scam, another is caught in coal scam, one is caught in CRIDP scam, one is in the 2G scam, one is caught in illegal mining scam. DMK seems to make such corrupt people as its members.”

He further said, “Tamil Nadu CM always says that Modi govt has done injustice to the state, I am here to tell him – if you are truthful, reply to what I am asking in front of the people of the state. UPA government was there from 2004 to 2014, and it gave ₹1,52,901 crores in the form of grant-in-aid and devolution to the state, whereas the Modi government gave ₹5,08,337 crores in 10 years. In addition to that, the Modi government also gave ₹1,43,000 crore for infrastructure development.”

Tamil Nadu’s ₹5,882 Crore Mineral Mining Scam: Sri Kari Sastha Karudaiyar Temple Lands Exploited, Devotees Seek ₹1,000 Crore Royalty For Temple

The Madras High Court has ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the large-scale illegal mining of beach sand minerals (BSM) in Tamil Nadu, which has been taking place since 2000-01. The order was issued on 17 February 2025, by a bench comprising Hon’ble Justice S.M. Subramanian and Hon’ble Justice M. Jothiraman. The court has directed the CBI to investigate potential collusion between politicians, government officials, and private mining companies in the illicit extraction of minerals, including garnet and thorium, from the state’s coastal areas.

Following the court’s order, the Tamil Nadu government has issued notices to several companies demanding royalties for the illegally mined minerals. The companies and the amounts sought from them are as follows:

  • V.V. Minerals – ₹913 crore
  • TVL Industrials – ₹276 crore
  • Transworld Garnet – ₹196 crore
  • Beach Mineral Sand Company and its sister concern – ₹425.64 crore
  • Ocean Garnet Sands – ₹191 crore

The government has estimated a total revenue loss of ₹5,882 crore due to unauthorized mining operations in the districts of Tuticorin, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakumari. Officials have stated that in Tuticorin district alone, the revenue loss amounts to ₹2,002 crore.

The issue has also drawn attention from devotees and temple organizations. The president of the Temple Worshipers’ Association, TR Ramesh, has alleged that several lakh tons of mineral sand were illegally extracted from thousands of acres of land belonging to the Sri Kari Sastha Karudaiyar Temple in Navaladi Panchayat, near Vetiyaanvilai in Tirunelveli district. He has demanded that the temple administration receive at least ₹1,000 crore in compensation from the illegally mined revenue.

Ramesh has further stated that the extracted minerals, particularly garnet and thorium, were exported abroad without permission, raising concerns over national security. He cited a past case filed in the courts by an individual named Kannadasan, who later withdrew it due to alleged political pressure. He has urged the CBI to conduct a thorough investigation into the illegal sand mining from temple lands and to take strict action against those involved.

The Tamil Nadu government has stated that district collectors have been instructed to collect the amounts due from the companies involved. The administration has assured that it will fully cooperate with the CBI investigation and provide all necessary records.

Activists and legal experts have reiterated that the large-scale illicit extraction of thorium poses a threat to national security. They have urged the authorities to ensure strict enforcement of mining regulations and to take decisive action against those responsible for the extensive environmental and economic damage caused by these illegal operations.
