Madras High Court Stops Church Construction On Land Of 70-Year-Old State-Aided School

The Madras High Court has directed all parties to maintain status quo until June 22, 2026, in a case involving a government-classified land parcel in Thuthipattu village of Tirupathur district, where a decades-old state-aided primary school is functioning.

The interim direction was issued by a Division Bench comprising Justices G.R. Swaminathan and V. Lakshminarayanan in a writ petition filed by S. Jaishankar. Advocate M. Ramamoorthi appeared for the petitioner, while Additional Advocate General T. Gowthaman represented the State authorities.

At the centre of the dispute is approximately 6,545 square feet of land situated near the historic Bindu Madhava Perumal Temple in Ambur Taluk. According to the petition, the property was originally associated with Srinivasa Naidu and later came to be classified as Sarkar Poramboke land.

The petitioner contended that around seven decades ago the site was handed over for the purpose of establishing a primary school for local children. The institution, founded by John Sundar, later came to be known as IELC Primary School and has since functioned as a state-aided educational institution serving the surrounding villages.

According to a report by Verdictum, The controversy emerged in 2023 when efforts were allegedly initiated to construct a church structure within the school premises. The petitioner claimed that, during the same period, student enrolment at the school declined sharply, raising concerns among residents that the educational institution was being gradually displaced.

Local opposition to the construction reportedly led the Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO), Vaniyambadi, to invoke preventive proceedings under Section 107 of the Code of Criminal Procedure to avert possible law-and-order issues. Following an inquiry, the RDO recorded that an aided primary school was operating on the site and directed the removal of portions of the church structure and tower that had allegedly been erected without authorization. The order further noted that any such construction required prior approval from the District Collector under the applicable government regulations.

The petitioner further alleged that despite these directions, revenue records were subsequently altered and the classification and ownership entries relating to the property were changed through irregular means. Residents challenged these developments before the district administration, claiming that the changes had been secured through manipulation of official records.

Representations were submitted to district authorities seeking intervention. However, the District Collector advised the aggrieved parties to pursue remedies before the competent civil court.

Meanwhile, educational authorities also became involved. In early 2024, the Joint Director of Elementary Education instructed the District Educational Officer to examine the matter, leading to a formal inquiry. Separately, proceedings were initiated by revenue authorities to review and potentially cancel the disputed patta.

The petitioner stated that a fresh controversy arose in May 2024 when the ninth respondent allegedly represented the property before the District Collector as an existing church structure undergoing renovation. According to the petition, the existence of the functioning primary school was not disclosed, resulting in an order that permitted the work to proceed without obtaining prior approval on the ground that it related to an old church building.

Challenging this decision before the High Court, the petitioner argued that the order had been passed without hearing the affected residents and that it jeopardized the continued existence of a neighbourhood school protected under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009.

The writ petition contends that the school qualifies as a public building under the relevant building regulations and that its conversion for religious purposes would violate planning and development norms. It also argues that closure of the institution would undermine the statutory objective of ensuring access to primary education within a reasonable distance of a child’s residence.

Taking note of the dispute, the High Court directed that the existing position be maintained until June 22, 2026, and posted the matter for further hearing on June 8, 2026.

Madras High Court Issues Notice To TN Govt Over ₹8.81 Crore Cut From Temple Land Compensation Acquired For High Court Expansion

Madurai Bench Of Madras High Court Seeks Centre, TN Response On Regulatory Body For Christian Institutions, Cites Fund Misuse conversion to christianity

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has issued notices to the Tamil Nadu government and other authorities on a petition challenging the deduction of ₹8.81 crore from the compensation awarded for the acquisition of temple land for development works at the Madurai Bench of the High Court, as reported in Dinamalar.

The petition was filed by the trustee of the Kodhandarama Swamy Temple at Othakadai in Madurai.

According to the petitioner, the temple owns land measuring 6.51 acres at Narasingam, opposite the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court. The land was acquired by the Tamil Nadu government following directions issued for the expansion and development of the High Court campus.

The government fixed compensation for the acquired land at ₹26.45 crore. However, a sum of ₹8.81 crore was deducted under the head of “land development charges”. The remaining amount of ₹17.63 crore was deposited by the government before a subordinate court in Madurai in the name of the temple administration.

Challenging the deduction, the petitioner sought a direction to the Principal Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Land Administration Department to release the deducted amount of ₹8.81 crore to the temple administration along with interest calculated from the date on which the land acquisition proceedings commenced.

During the hearing, counsel appearing for the petitioner argued that the levy of land development charges in connection with the acquisition of temple land was not legally sustainable and sought the quashing of the deduction.

The matter came up before a Division Bench comprising Justices N. Sathish Kumar and M. Jothiraman.

After hearing the submissions, the Bench ordered notices to the Principal Secretary of the Land Administration Department, the Madurai District Collector and the Land Acquisition Officer.

The court has posted the matter for further hearing on 24 June 2026.

Petition Seeking FIR Against Joseph Vijay Over Alleged Undisclosed ₹15 Crore Income From Puli Withdrawn

Madras High Court Dismisses Vijay’s Plea Against ₹1.5 Crore Penalty In ‘Puli’ Undisclosed Income Case

Weeks after Joseph Vijay became the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, the petition that sought registration of an FIR and initiation of proceedings under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay over allegations of suppression of income was permitted to be withdrawn by Madras High Court, as reported in DT Next.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice S.A. Dharmadhikari and Justice G. Arul Murugan allowed the petitioner to withdraw the plea and dismissed the matter as withdrawn.

The petition was filed by M. Rajkumar of Kodungaiyur, who sought directions to the Income Tax Department to examine materials collected during a search conducted at Vijay’s residence, assessment records and the penalty order passed by the Department, and to initiate prosecution proceedings under the Income Tax Act.

According to the petitioner, the Income Tax Department had conducted a search at Vijay’s residence in 2015 during which it allegedly found that remuneration amounting to Rs 15 crore received by him for the film Puli had not been disclosed in his accounts.

The petitioner stated that the Income Tax Department subsequently imposed a penalty of Rs 1.5 crore in connection with the alleged non-disclosure of income.

Vijay had challenged the penalty order before the Madras High Court. However, the High Court dismissed his petition challenging the penalty on 5 February 2026.

Referring to these developments, the petitioner sought directions for criminal action against Vijay under the Income Tax Act based on the materials gathered during the search and assessment proceedings.

The plea also sought a direction to register an FIR against Vijay for alleged offences including cheating and criminal conspiracy in connection with the alleged suppression of income.

In addition, the petitioner requested the court to direct that materials collected during the Income Tax proceedings be forwarded to the Enforcement Directorate for examination of whether a prima facie case existed for action under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

When the matter came up for hearing on Tuesday, 2 June 2026, the Division Bench permitted the petitioner to withdraw the plea.

Consequently, the court dismissed the petition as withdrawn.

Thooya Sakthi Model: TVK Functionary Allegedly Stabs Govt Bus Driver; Flees Scene

Thooya Sakthi Model: TVK Functionary Allegedly Stabs Govt Bus Driver; Flees Scene

A government bus driver was allegedly stabbed on the head by a functionary of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) near Karuppatti in the Sholavandan area of Madurai district late on Tuesday night, triggering protests by transport corporation employees and disrupting bus services.

According to reports, the final government town bus of the night departed from the Madurai Periyar Bus Stand at around 10:40 PM. After dropping passengers at Karuppatti, the bus, driven by Prasad, was returning to the Sholavandan depot.

As the bus approached the TASMAC outlet near Karuppatti, a car was allegedly parked across the road, obstructing traffic. Driver Prasad reportedly asked those in the vehicle to move the car aside and give way to the bus.

An argument then broke out between Prasad and the occupants of the car. During the altercation, Dhanushkodi, 45, son of Thangam of Karuppatti and a TVK functionary from the Sholavandan area, allegedly refused to move the vehicle and continued the dispute with the driver.

As the verbal quarrel escalated, Dhanushkodi allegedly called several of his supporters who were passing through the area to come to the spot. It is alleged that he then, along with his supporters, attacked driver Prasad and stabbed him on the head with a knife.

Prasad sustained a severe bleeding injury and collapsed unconscious on the spot. Following the attack, Dhanushkodi allegedly fled the scene in the car, while his supporters also escaped.

Bus conductor Mokkasamy immediately alerted emergency services and summoned a 108 ambulance. Prasad was rescued and admitted to the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai for treatment.

The incident created tension and shock in the locality. Based on a complaint, the Sholavandan police registered a case and launched a search operation to trace Dhanushkodi and the other accused who remain absconding.

The attack sparked strong protests among transport corporation employees. More than 300 drivers, conductors and depot staff attached to the Sholavandan government bus depot reportedly boycotted work from Wednesday morning, demanding the immediate arrest of Dhanushkodi and condemning the assault on the driver.

As a result of the protest, 55 government buses operated from the Sholavandan depot remained off the roads, causing inconvenience to members of the public and daily commuters.

Following the protest, officials of the State Transport Corporation and police officers held talks with the agitating employees. During the discussions, police officials assured the protesters that appropriate legal action would be taken against those responsible for the attack.

Based on the assurance given by the police, the protesting employees withdrew their agitation and resumed work.

Police officials stated that a case has been registered against Dhanushkodi and that a manhunt is underway to secure his arrest. According to the police, several criminal cases are already pending against Dhanushkodi and he has previously been subjected to action under the Goondas Act.

Police further confirmed that Dhanushkodi is a member of the TVK.

“Muslim Men Must Be So Attractive”: Islamo-Leftists Nivedita Menon, Arfa Khanum Sherwani Mock Hindus, Whitewash Love Jihad

“Muslim Men Must Be So Attractive”: Islamo-Leftists Nivedita Menon, Arfa Khanum Sherwani Mock Hindus, Whitewash Love Jihad

A video clip from a podcast hosted by leftist rag The Wire ‘journalist’ Arfa Khanum Sherwani featuring JNU leftist ‘professor’ Nivedita Menon has sparked controversy on social media after both speakers mocked the concept of love jihad and dismissed concerns raised by those who cite a pattern of Muslim men targeting Hindu women for religious conversion, as reported in OpIndia.

The viral clip is from a podcast episode hosted by Sherwani in February 2026. During the discussion, Nivedita Menon and Sherwani rejected the concept of Love Jihad and characterised concerns surrounding alleged cases of Muslim men targeting Hindu women as expressions of insecurity among Hindu men.

The discussion began with references to women’s agency and free will before moving towards the question of why some Hindu women enter relationships with Muslim men. Sherwani repeatedly asked, “Why do Hindu girls like Muslim men so much?”.

Responding to the question, Menon remarked, “Muslim men must be so attractive… and they probably can’t find that in their own religion.”

Menon frames the concept of Love Jihad as an expression of helplessness among Hindu men and suggested that Muslim men are seen to be more ‘attractive’ or ‘desirable’. The tone and laughter during the discussion reduces interfaith relationships to a communal competition and stereotypes Hindu men and women.

While Islamist-leftist commentators such as Arfa and Nivedita often present themselves as liberal, feminist and progressive voices advocating Hindu-Muslim unity, moments such as these reveal the underlying Islamist mindset. The concept of women’s agency is selectively invoked depending on whether it aligns with narratives surrounding Muslim victimhood or Hindu majoritarianism.

It is a known fact that we have documented cases in which Muslim men pretended to be Hindu, established relationships with Hindu women, recorded intimate videos, engaged in blackmail, extorted money, pressured women to adopt Islamic practices including Namaz and Hijab, forced conversion to Islam and compelled them into Nikah. Such incidents are routinely dismissed as conspiracy theories by those who reject the concept of love jihad.

There are some self-described secular and progressive voices who echo narratives portraying Muslims as virile and dominant while depicting Hindus as weak, thereby engaging in communal boasting despite presenting themselves as opponents of communalism.

When we compare how the same people react to Islamist violence, we see that Muslim victimhood is often deployed as a political narrative to protect perpetrators, minimise crimes and shift blame onto victim communities. Take for example, the 1990 exodus of Kashmiri Pandits, where you had local Muslims and armed Islamic terrorists issuing threats against Hindu women, which were denied flatly by the same Islamist-leftist commentators and attributed those accounts to BJP-RSS propaganda.

A similar pattern exists in discussions about Love Jihad and conversion-related crimes. We have plenty of cases from Rajasthan’s Beawar and Ajmer, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and the grooming gang case in the United Kingdom, whererape and conversion have often been used as tools of religious conquest and humiliation of non-Muslims. Arfa Sherwani and Nivedita Menon mock Hindu victims sitting in their airconditioned chambers while downplaying “Maal-e-Ghanimat”.

People like Nivedita Menon serve as useful allies for Islamists by providing a Hindu voice that can be used to reinforce claims that Muslim men are viewed as more attractive by Hindu women. Now how different are these women from Muslim men who operate online groups targeting Hindu women with abusive language and religiously motivated sexual fantasies.

Both women along with their secular leftist progressive counterparts are denying cases in which Hindu women were deceived by Muslim men who concealed their religious identities or presented themselves as secular. The same people also celebrate (as we can see from the podcast) Muslim men as more virile or sexually potent due to dietary practices such as meat consumption.

Now Nivedita asks why Hindu men are not targeting Muslim women and doing the same. Does she not realise that Muslim women often face social restrictions and therefore have fewer opportunities to interact with Hindu men? In fact, Muslim men who welcome Hindu women converting to Islam often react aggressively when Muslim women are found to be dating Hindu men – we have reported so many cases like that in The Commune too.

Now let us see how Arfa Sherwani reacted to the TCS Nashik harassment case. Sherwani had questioned the integrity of the complainants and suggested that the complaint was intended to make the accused Muslim men unemployable. There you have it, the evergreen Victim Card!

Menon had described Love Jihad as a term created by Hindu Rashtra supporters. However, Menon needs to remember that the term originally emerged from Christian organisations in Kerala that raised concerns about girls being targeted and radicalised by the same Islamists!

And the same people – Sherwani and Menon have criticised films such as The Kerala Story as Islamophobic propaganda.

How will Menon and Sherwani describe the grooming gangs of Ajmer, the Chhangur Baba episode, the Bhopal love jihad cases? Will they again laugh it off like they did it in this podcast? In the Chhangur Baba case there were financial incentives offered to target Hindu women, and the same network protected the perpetrators while portraying victims as villains.

Now let us come to another hypocrisy – this same gang who cry foul when it comes to love jihad, will again cry victim for what it has named as ‘Bhagwa Love Trap’, which alleges that Hindu men seek to lure Muslim women for eventual conversion to Hinduism. So, will Menon say anything on this – she was the one who asked why Hindu men are not doing the same to Muslim women.

Menon laughed all this as lack of attractiveness and masculinity, but she must remember that physical strength and attractiveness are not linked to religion. Islamists employ deception to trap Hindu women. The day Menon realises it; the sun will probably rise in the West.

Theni: ‘Every Day Feels Like Walking On Fire,’ Villagers Allege Ganja, Liquor Den Operating Beside Temple

Theni: ‘Every Day Feels Like Walking On Fire,’ Villagers Allege Ganja, Liquor Den Operating Beside Temple

Residents of a village in Theni submitted a petition to district authorities alleging that an establishment operating under the guise of a hotel near a local temple had become a hub for the sale of illicit liquor, ganja and other intoxicating substances, creating fear and insecurity among women and children in the area.

Speaking on behalf of the villagers, a resident identified as Punitha said the establishment, run by a man named Jayaraman, was officially presented as a hotel but was widely known among locals as a place where liquor and other intoxicants were sold. She alleged that the area around the shop was constantly crowded with parked motorcycles and autorickshaws and that large numbers of people from surrounding villages frequented the location to consume alcohol.

According to the residents, women were unable to visit the nearby temple without being accompanied by male family members due to safety concerns. They alleged that intoxicated individuals often gathered near the temple premises, used abusive language and created a nuisance. Villagers also expressed concern about the safety of schoolchildren, stating that they lived in constant fear while sending their children to school.

The petitioners further alleged that aggressive dogs were being kept at the premises and that drunken individuals frequently slept around the temple area. They stated that thefts had occurred at the temple on at least two occasions and that complaints had been lodged with the police.

According to the residents, police intervention would temporarily restore order for a week or ten days, but the alleged illegal activities would resume shortly thereafter. Villagers stated that whenever they questioned the parking of vehicles or other disturbances caused by visitors to the shop, they were subjected to verbal abuse and intimidation.

Residents also alleged that the operators of the establishment had gradually expanded their presence in the area over the past six years and had encroached upon surrounding land. They stated that the business had started as a small shop but had since grown significantly, with large portions of the surrounding area allegedly being occupied unlawfully.

The villagers stated that those operating the establishment were not originally from the village and had no local connection. They alleged that the shop was involved in the sale of liquor, ganja and various other intoxicating substances. According to them, the social impact had been severe, with many men in the village allegedly becoming addicted to alcohol and other substances. They stated that several men had died due to excessive drinking and that many young men had fallen prey to addiction, leaving a predominantly elderly population behind.

Residents further alleged that the owner had previously worked as a supplier at a liquor outlet and had since accumulated substantial assets. They urged the Chief Minister and district administration to investigate the matter and take action.

The villagers stated that they had repeatedly approached the Collector’s office and submitted multiple petitions regarding the issue. However, they alleged that any official action taken had only been temporary and that the activities would resume within a few months.

Demanding immediate intervention, the residents called for legal action against those involved and the removal of the allegedly illegal establishment. They warned that if authorities failed to act, villagers would launch protests and collectively surrender their ration cards at the Collector’s office as a mark of protest.

The petitioners stated that many children in the village were becoming vulnerable to substance abuse and stressed that urgent action was required to protect future generations. They appealed to the Chief Minister and the District Collector to ensure that women and children could move about safely and peacefully in the village.

The residents said they were daily wage labourers earning around ₹300 a day and had approached the authorities in the hope of securing justice and restoring normalcy to their village.

Thooya Sakthi TVK Model Drug Control: Youth Hacked To Death After Reportedly Opposing Ganja Sales In Chennai

Thooya Sakthi TVK Model Drug Control: Youth Allegedly Hacked To Death After Opposing Ganja Sales In Chennai

A 23-year-old youth was allegedly beaten to death by a gang in Chennai’s Tondiarpet after he and his family repeatedly opposed the sale of ganja in their locality, triggering protests by relatives and residents who demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible.

The deceased was identified as Vishnu, a resident of Tondiarpet. Following his death, grieving relatives and members of the public staged a road blockade protest in the area, condemning the killing and seeking swift police action against the accused.

According to Vishnu’s family members, the dispute had its origins in their opposition to ganja sales in the neighbourhood. They alleged that local residents, including members of their family, had questioned and resisted the activities of those involved in the drug trade, leading to repeated confrontations.

Family members claimed that the accused had moved into the area only a few months earlier and had previously attacked Vishnu by pelting stones at him. They further alleged that on an earlier occasion, two men had come to their house carrying knives, leading to an argument when family members questioned them. During the confrontation, a woman in the family allegedly slapped one of the men after he behaved inappropriately, following which the accused allegedly threatened to destroy the entire family.

According to the family, tensions escalated further during another dispute involving women in the locality. They alleged that one of the accused, identified by them as the elder son of a man named Akilan, arrived with a knife and attempted to attack a family member. Vishnu’s relative reportedly intervened, after which the accused fled the scene.

The family alleged that the accused subsequently began gathering information about them and frequently remained under the influence of ganja and tablets. They claimed that the murder was premeditated and carried out after careful planning.

According to relatives, Vishnu had gone out to purchase tiffin from a nearby shop at around 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. when the attackers allegedly lay in wait for him in a dark area. They alleged that Vishnu was first struck on the head with a hammer, causing him to lose control and collapse along with his motorcycle.

The family further alleged that before a relative accompanying him could alert the police, the attackers assaulted Vishnu with stones and hacked him with knives. They claimed that he sustained cut injuries at seven different locations on his body and that large stones were repeatedly used to strike his head. According to the family, the attack caused severe skull fractures and extensive brain damage, resulting in his death.

Relatives maintained that the primary motive behind the murder was their opposition to ganja sales in the locality. They alleged that while some individuals were attempting to portray the dispute as politically motivated, the root cause was their campaign against drug peddling.

The family also claimed that they had proposed installing CCTV cameras throughout the area to monitor suspicious activities and had faced opposition for doing so. According to them, objections were raised over the installation of surveillance cameras, and resentment over the proposal had persisted for nearly a year.

They further alleged that the hostility dated back to a temple festival held about a year ago and that repeated threats had been issued against their family. According to relatives, the accused had earlier warned that more deaths would occur in the family and that additional funerals would take place.

Following Vishnu’s death, his relatives and local residents blocked roads in Tondiarpet and demanded the immediate arrest of all those involved in the murder. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.

Joseph Vijay Calls His Party Thooyasakthi But His TVK Cadres Gangrape Woman

Joseph Vijay Calls His Party Thooyasakthi But His TVK Cadres Gangrape Woman

Joseph Vijay pleaded with the public to give him, his party the TVK, a chance at governance/politics because he promised to make things right – women’s safety, drug control etc. But the news that is emerging by the day seems to paint a totally different picture.

Two functionaries of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) have been arrested for their alleged involvement in a gang rape case near Thoothukudi. The accused reportedly took a woman to a hospital under the pretext of providing her a job, then drugged her in the cold air and assaulted her.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Balamurugan, the organizer of the Thoothukudi West District TVK Youth Group, and his associate Jayapal, who serves as the Ramanathapuram District TVK administrator.

According to police reports, the incident took place near Srivaikuntam in Thoothukudi district. The victim, a young woman, was lured into a car on the promise of employment. The accused then offered her a soft drink laced with a sedative. Once she was drugged, she was subjected to gang rape.

The victim filed a complaint, following which the Srivaikuntam All-Women Police Station registered a case and launched an intensive investigation. Based on the evidence gathered, police arrested Balamurugan and Jayapal for their roles in the crime.

Both accused were produced before a court, which ordered their remand. They have since been lodged in Palayamkottai Central Prison.

CM Joseph Vijay’s Trichy Visit Leaves Commuter Walking Nearly 4 Km In Scorching Heat, Sparks Commuter Outrage

CM Joseph Vijay's Trichy Visit Leaves Passengers Walking Nearly 4 Km In Scorching Heat, Sparks Commuter Outrage

Hundreds of commuters were left stranded and forced to walk long distances in the scorching heat in Tiruchirappalli after bus services were reportedly curtailed and diverted ahead of Chief Minister Vijay’s scheduled visit to the city, triggering widespread frustration among the public.

According to reports showing multiple commuters, buses travelling towards key destinations including Chatram Bus Stand, Tiruchi Junction, Singarathoppu and the Government Hospital were stopped at Mambazha Salai and Tollgate areas several hours before the Chief Minister’s arrival, forcing passengers to disembark and continue their journeys on foot.

Several passengers complained that Vijay was expected to arrive only in the evening, yet traffic restrictions and bus diversions had been imposed from late morning itself. Many said they were not informed in advance that buses would be terminated midway and were only told to get down after purchasing tickets and boarding the vehicles.

Residents travelling from Ariyalur, Musiri, Srirangam and surrounding districts said they were forced to walk distances ranging from 1.5 kilometres to more than 4 kilometres while carrying luggage, young children and personal belongings. Elderly passengers and women reportedly struggled in the intense heat, with some unable to continue walking and forced to sit by the roadside.

One commuter attempting to reach Singarathoppu said he had been dropped at Mambazha Salai and had no transport available to complete the remaining journey of over four kilometres. Others travelling to Coimbatore, Tiruchi Junction and Chatram Bus Stand voiced similar complaints, saying buses that normally proceeded to their destinations were being stopped prematurely because of the Chief Minister’s visit.

Passengers also alleged that neither transport officials nor police personnel provided clear explanations regarding the restrictions. Many claimed that when they sought clarification, they were repeatedly directed from one official to another without receiving a definite answer or any alternative travel arrangements.

A government hospital employee travelling from the Musiri region said he was required to report for duty by noon but was dropped midway and left uncertain about whether he would be able to reach work on time. He expressed concern about losing wages or facing disciplinary action despite having already paid his fare and boarded the bus.

Parents travelling with schoolchildren were particularly affected. Some pointed out that the disruptions coincided with school reopening, making travel even more difficult for families returning to their hometowns after the holidays. Several passengers questioned why children were being forced to walk long distances under the afternoon sun simply because of a political event.

Many commuters criticised the lack of prior notice, arguing that passengers could have made alternate arrangements had they been informed earlier that buses would not operate along the affected routes. Instead, they said, passengers were allowed to board buses, tickets were collected, and they were subsequently ordered to disembark midway through their journeys.

The disruption sparked criticism of the TVK government’s governance model, with several commuters drawing comparisons between the promises of “good change” and “alternative politics” made during the election campaign and the hardships faced by ordinary people during the Chief Minister’s visit. Some questioned whether the restrictions had been ordered directly by the administration or were the result of decisions taken by local officials, while others said the public should not be inconvenienced to such an extent for a political programme.
