In a move to safeguard the lives of about 5,000 Pakistani refugees from the Hindu Sindhi community living in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore, the state government has ensured that they will be administered COVID-19 vaccines.

The representatives of the Pakistani refugees from the Hindu Sindhi community had recently requested for coronavirus inoculation. In this regard, the District Immunization Officer Dr Praveen Jadia told PTI that, “This demand has been accepted following the state government’s approval. These Pakistani refugees will now be able to receive anti-coronavirus jabs at the city’s vaccination centres by showing their passport as the identity card,”.

Almost 5,000 Pakistani refugees are living in Indore and most of them are settled in the city’s Sindhi Colony area.

“We are administering anti-COVID 19 doses to all adults on humanitarian grounds. Last month, we had vaccinated a Dutch citizen who had come to Indore for some work,” he recalled. Indore district, which is the worst hit by the pandemic in Madhya Pradesh, has so far recorded 1.52 lakh COVID-19 cases including 1,370 fatalities, according to officials. About 13.53 lakh people were administered the first dose of the vaccine in the Indore district while 2.35 lakh people had received both doses.

Indian Navy to build 6 new nuclear powered submarines

Under the major defence modernisation proposals, the Indian Navy wants to have six indigenous nuclear attack submarines. 95 per cent of the submarine would be made in India.

“The nuclear attack submarine project would be a big boost for the indigenous submarine capability as 95 per cent of it would be made in India. This would provide a big boost to the domestic defence sector including both private and public sector,” a top government source told India Today TV.

The Cabinet Committee on Security is considering the Navy proposal worth over Rs 50,000 crore for three nuclear attack submarines built by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in Visakhapatnam.

Also, there are plans to build Arihant class nuclear-powered submarines with the capability of launching ballistic missiles.

When the project commences, it would be very helpful for the economy as it is expected to generate a large number of jobs in the defence sector.

After the Narendra Modi government came to power in 2014, the Indian Navy proposed to have six indigenous nuclear attack submarines as one of the major defence modernisation initiatives.

Despite delays, India has made a lot of progress in the field of indigenous submarine building capability with the commissioning of the Arihant, a nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine a few years ago and the second  INS Arighat which is under going sea trials and is expected to be commissioned in near future.

India has plans to build 24 submarines, including six with nuclear attack capabilities to have an advantage in the Indian Ocean region and keep China’s dominance in check.

Hyderabad police apprehended the president of a non-governmental organization (NGO) after a woman YouTuber reportedly attempted suicide as a result of the man’s defamatory remarks against her.

Syed Saleem, a resident of Hyderabad’s Hafeez Baba Nagar and the president of an NGO, is accused of making derogatory remarks about a woman who is a YouTuber and runs the Khidmat e- Khalq Charitable Trust on Facebook.

In a video, the woman Youtuber said that she was ending her life due to harassment by the accused. According to police, she allegedly tried to commit suicide by taking sleeping pills.

Rudra Bhaskar, SHO of Chandrayangutta police station, said,” Saleem did a live broadcast on his Facebook page and made defamatory and derogatory comments against the woman. Due to this, the woman reportedly tried to end her life by consuming some sleeping pills.”

Saleem has been charged by the police under Sections 354, 294 of the IPC, as well as various sections of the IT Act. He was arrested from his house by a police team early on Sunday.

Mild tension prevailed near the house of Saleem at Dabeerpura when few persons gathered while the police team went to his house to arrest him. 12 year old tenure of Netanyahu comes to an end, Naftali Bennett to be sworn in as Israel PM

Israel Prime Minister Netanyahu’s 12-year term got cut short as the Knesset ousted him after he had failed a vote of confidence. Naftali Bennett will be sworn in as the country’s new Prime Minister.

This has been effectively reported by the world media as the end of an era, as he was the country’s longest-serving Prime Minister. He will now be serving as the leader of the opposition, on behalf of his party, Likud. It is to be noted that Netanyahu had, by habit, walked up to the Prime Minister’s chair and had to be ushered back to the opposition bench.

Speaking at the parliament on Sunday after the vote of confidence, Bennett said, “This is not a day of mourning. There is a change of government in a democracy. That’s it. We will do all we can so that no-one should have to feel afraid… And I say to those who intend to celebrate tonight, don’t dance on the pain of others. We are not enemies; we are one people.”

It is to be noted that Bennet was congratulated by US President Joe Biden upon winning the vote of confidence. Reuters reported him as saying he looked forward to strengthening the “close and enduring” relationship between the two countries.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his wishes to Benjamin Netanyahu through social media in Hebrew and thanked him for the attention given to India-Israel partnership. He also sent a congratulatory tweet to the new Prime Minister Naftali Benett.

Wales gets the world’s first non-binary mayor

Owen Hurcum became the world’s first non-binary mayor, when they took charge of the position Bangor in Wales, UK. All of 23 years old, they expressed their delight and mentioned that they felt ‘hugely humbled’ to be representing their community.

Speaking to the Guardian, they said, “It wasn’t as much a shock or surprise to become mayor of Bangor. But it was when they asked me to put my name forward for deputy mayor back in 2019. I wasn’t expecting that. I was very honoured that they asked me to put my candidacy forward. They didn’t put anyone up against me, so I got appointed unopposed.”

They went on to explain their journey, and said, “Growing up, there was little or no representation of non-binary people. I knew I wasn’t transgender in terms of being a woman – I thought I was just super queer. But I could live that from day one in Bangor. It was the people of Bangor that gave me the vocabulary, the confidence, and the support to understand my gender as non-binary. Bangor is really the place that has allowed me to embrace myself, and I owe the city everything for that.”

It is to be noted that Bangor is the oldest city in Wales, and it is a significant step-up for the country that has been popularly known for its bigotry. It is to be noted that Owen is not the first person to have been elected to a bureaucratic position in the world, as the US elected its first trans state senator and first black gay congressman recently.

‘Love Jihad’ issue resurfaces in Kerala as India refuses entry of four ISIS women recruits

Four Indian women from Kerala believed to be Sonia Sebastian alias Ayisha, Merin Jacob alias Merrin, Nimisha Nair alias Fathima Isa, and Raffaela had traveled to Afghanistan with their families in 2016-18 to reside in the Islamic State in Khorasan Province (ISKP) area. In November 2019, all those four women surrendered to Afghan authorities after their husbands were killed in separate attacks.

Indian officials from the External Affairs Ministry and Intelligence organizations, who investigated those four women in an Afghan jail, reported to the Indian government that they were extremely radicalized.

In a recent interview, Fathima’s mother Bindu criticized the central government for refusing to let her daughter return, stating,  ” Why are they not allowing my daughter back into the country. Let her undergo a trial and be given the punishment according to the law of the land. She has a small child and I don’t know why the authorities are so adamant on this.”

It was alleged that several Hindu and Christian girls were lured by Muslim youths, taken to IS strongholds, and trained as terrorists. The BJP, RSS, and other Hindu organizations, as well as a few Christian groups in Kerala, were at the forefront of campaigns that girls in Kerala were lured under the guise of love, converted, and radicalized, with some of them ending up in locations like Afghanistan and Syria as IS fighters.

In 2009, Justice K.T.Sankaran of the Kerala High Court while hearing a bail plea of a Muslim youth arrested allegedly for converting two Hindu girls, remarked, “The police reports revealed the blessings of some outfits for a concerted effort for religious conversions.” He observed that cases of forcible religious conversions under the guise of love were taking place and asked the government to enact legislation to ban such activities.

Meanwhile, the RSS and other Hindu organizations, as well as few Christian organizations, have already said that the issue of ‘Love Jihad’ has to be taken for major discussion with the new developments.

J.Nandakumar, a senior RSS leader and convenor of the think tank ‘Prajnapravah,’ stated: “You can call it ‘Love Jihad,’ ‘Romeo Jihad,’ or whatever you want, but these four women are a classic example of how there is a planned and concerted effort to lure Hindu and Christian girls, radicalize them, and send them across to fight in Afghanistan. Fearing the consequences of an organized vote bank, the main political parties have gone mute or turned the other cheek.”

He further stated that those four women should not be allowed to enter India as they have already been radicalized and trained and will pose a significant threat to internal security if permitted to return.

The Catholic Church has already issued a statement alleging that Muslim teenagers are luring several girls from the community into weddings and conversions. The synod of the Syro-Malabar Church, an elite body of Catholic Bishops presided by Cardinal George Alanchery, criticized the Kerala Police for not viewing the matter seriously.

“It is a reality that ‘Love Jihad’ is actually happening in Kerala in a planned manner targeting Christian girls,” it stated, claiming that half of the 21 females recruited by the Islamic State terror group were Christians.

Muslim organizations, on the other hand, have denied the existence of ‘Love Jihad.’ The Popular Front of India, considered a radical Muslim group, stated that no Muslim organizations in India have recognized the Islamic State.

The Hindu’s Suhasini Haider tries to discredit Fin Min Nirmala Sitharaman, ends up embarrassing herself

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday (June 13) tweeted about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s virtual participation in the 47th G7 summit that happened in Cornwell, United Kingdom.

In her tweet, she mentioned that PM Modi has sought the G7 countries to extend support to the proposal made by India and South Africa for a TRIPS waiver on vaccines.

She mentioned that India participated as a guest country for the first time. This tweet was made at 8:14 PM on June 13. Minutes later at 8:37 PM, the Finance Minister clarified that India had participated as a guest country prior to this summit too.

However, The Hindu’s Suhasini Haider in an attempt to discredit the Finance Minister quote tweeted saying that India had participated as guest country earlier too. This was posted 24 hours after the Finance Minister had clarified the error.

To this, the Finance Minister responded dignifiedly thanking Suhasini for her ‘alertness’. She asked her to check the follow up tweet she made last night.

To this, Suhasini responded suggesting the Minister to delete her tweet as it would lead to others making the same mistake.

However, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that she prefers not deleting tweets and that she had done her due diligence and added that she has not given any misleading information.

” I did do my due diligence to add on, would’ve expected a sr journalist such as yourself to take a min to do the same. Thank you regardless. Have a good week.” the Finance Minister said.

This has kicked off a storm on social media with many mentioning that the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman ‘hit a sixer’ for the ‘yorker’.

BJP TN welcomes TN Govt’s move to appoint woman priests, says practice has been already existent

The BJP Tamil Nadu unit officially welcomed the Tamil Nadu government’s initiative to appoint priests from all castes including woman priests in temples across Tamil Nadu adding that the women have been priests in temples since ancient times.

“Recently, the government had said that it would consider appointment of women as priests. Right from the ancient days, women also had got expertise in Agama shastras. Women are already doing Puja in Melmaruvathur Adhiparasakthi Temple. We can see the influence of Paancharatra Agama mode of worship in Andal’s pasurams. So, already people of all castes and both men and women have been priests in Tamil Nadu.”, BJP Tamil Nadu President Dr. L. Murugan said in the press release.

He also pointed out the fact where people from different castes are priests at different temples like Sembadavars in Melmalayanur Angala Parameswari Temple, Kuyavars in Paingaadu Ayyanaar Temple, Devars in Sankarankoil Udayanayaki Temple, etc.

“Scheduled Caste people alone are priests in Bodyguard Muneeswarar Temple, Idamayan Temple.”, the press release said.

However, he also added a word of caution saying that while the decision of Tamil Nadu government is welcome only those who have proper knowledge and understanding of the respective Agama shastra of the temple be appointed.

The BJP’s position has surprised both the party’s supporters and critics. While some have welcomed the party’s position saying that it would help break the perception about the party, others have pointed out that the party is playing into DMK’s hands and that the Tamil Nadu government forcing such a move on all temples is unwarranted as it interferes with the religious character of the temple.
