Tamil Puthandu is on Chithirai 1 and not Thai 1 as claimed by Dravidian dimwits

tamil new year puthandu dmk

All the festivals that we celebrate are part of the ancient knowledge and tradition handed over to us by our ancestors. They also signify the rich cultural heritage of this land.

Puthaandu/Tamil New Year marks the first day of the first month (Chithirai) of the Hindu Tamil calendar that is based on the solar cycle. While certain politicians and ideologues may try to distort this fact, there is enough evidence in ancient Tamil literature that the first day of the Chithirai month marks the beginning of a new year.

“திண்ணிலை மருப்பின் ஆடு தலையாக விண்ணூர்பு திரிதரும் வீங்கு செலல் மண்டிலம்”

“Thinnilai Marruppin Aadu Thalaiyaaga Vinnurpu Thiritharum Veengu Sella Mandilam”

The above quote by Nakkeerar, a famous Tamil poet of the Sangam age, notes that the world runs with the goat (Mesha rasi / Aries) as the first sign.

Not only in this Sangam song, many ancient Tamil songs that are about the astronomical predictions and changes in position of planets and starts.

Kudalur Kizhar is another poet of the Sangam era whose poems are part of the Kurunthogai (166, 167, 214) and Purananuru (229). In the poem in Purananuru, where he predicts the death of Chera ruler Yanaikatchei Mantharanj Cheral Irumborai (62-42 BC), he mentions Chithirai month and Mesha rasi.

In essence, the first month of the year is the month of Chithirai during spring when the Sun enters Mesha (Aries) zodiac sign. The year ends with the month of Panguni when the sun comes up in Pisces. This is the solar calendar that is followed across the country while there are many communities in different states that follows the lunar calendar.

The commencement of the new year is celebrated as Vishu in Kerala, Rongali Bihu in Assam, Pohela Boisakh in Bengal, Bishuva Sankranti in Odisha, Jud Sheetal in parts of Bihar, etc. Not just in India, even countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, Bali, Cambodia, Laos, Sri Lanka, Thailand, etc also celebrate this festival.

So, Puthandu is not a day that can be changed to the whims and fancies of a bunch of politicians and their stooges to peddle their nonsensical agenda. No matter how hard the inimical forces might try to delink Hinduism with Tamil culture, they will fail miserably.

Sri Lanka may end up in Chinese hands like Uganda: Former Sri Lanka Army Commander warns

Sarath Fonseka, Sri Lanka’s former Army Commander, has warned that Sri Lanka which has fallen into China’s debt trap would end up like Uganda, which had to give away their only international airport to China.

Fonseka, who led Sri Lanka’s three-decade long civil war against Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam rebels to victory in 2009, said this in a Facebook post titled “Sri Lanka is being engulfed in Chinese debt trap that destroyed Uganda”.

Drawing a parallel between Uganda’s airport and Chinese-funded new airport built in Hambantota in southern Sri Lanka, he added that going beyond the country’s foreign diplomacy, it has been made a slave of one camp and also have worked to achieve political and military ambitions of another state, and thereby let the country lose it’s integrity and sovereignty.

“Just as what happened during the Rajapaksa’s regime, the corrupt political leaders of Uganda, ignoring the national plan and priorities, had gone on with the constructions with commercial loans at high interest rates that attract commissions,” alleged Field Marshal Fonseka.

“Instead of developing the Colombo Harbour, Hambantota harbour which was not so important project, is now owned by China and it is being used as a naval corridor in the centre of the Indian Ocean,” the former military leader said.

“Hambantota harbour is being looked at as a Chinese Naval base by India, the US and other Quad countries. This is a serious threat to Sri Lanka’s security. We would be able to see the result of these idiotic decisions during the definite power struggle in the region within next 60 to 80 months.”

The opposition MP, Fonseka, who said with the way how Chinese Ambassador is being reacted like a “mad man for the dirt ship”, the future is very clear and we have to rectify this situation in the future.

Women’s Tennis Association suspends all tournaments in China and Hong Kong over Peng Shuai controversy

In a serious blow to the Communist Party of China, the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) announced an immediate suspension of all tournaments in China, including Hong Kong, in response to Beijing’s silencing of sexual assault allegations made by Chinese tennis player Peng Shuai against a former top Communist Party official.

Peng Shuai accused former Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli of coercing her into sex at his home three years ago and once this information got out, Shuai was not seen for two weeks and after a lot of international pressure, in what looked like a staged show, the tennis star was seen in public.

This decision by WTA will have serious ramifications for China which is going to hold the winter Olympics in 2022.

Steve Simon, WTA Chairman & CEO statement reads—-

“When on November 2, 2021, Peng Shuai posted an allegation of sexual assault against a top Chinese government official, the Women’s Tennis Association recognized that Peng Shuai’s message had to be listened to and taken seriously. The players of the WTA, not to mention women around the world, deserve nothing less.

From that moment forward, Peng Shuai demonstrated the importance of speaking out, particularly when it comes to sexual assault, and especially when powerful people are involved. As Peng said in her post, “Even if it is like an egg hitting a rock, or if I am like a moth drawn to the flame, inviting self-destruction, I will tell the truth about you.” She knew the dangers she would face, yet she went public anyway. I admire her strength and courage.

Since then, Peng’s message has been removed from the internet and discussion of this serious issue has been censored in China. Chinese officials have been provided the opportunity to cease this censorship, verifiably prove that Peng is free and able to speak without interference or intimidation, and investigate the allegation of sexual assault in a full, fair and transparent manner.  Unfortunately, the leadership in China has not addressed this very serious issue in any credible way. While we now know where Peng is, I have serious doubts that she is free, safe and not subject to censorship, coercion and intimidation. The WTA has been clear on what is needed here, and we repeat our call for a full and transparent investigation – without censorship – into Peng Shuai’s sexual assault accusation.

None of this is acceptable nor can it become acceptable. If powerful people can suppress the voices of women and sweep allegations of sexual assault under the rug, then the basis on which the WTA was founded – equality for women – would suffer an immense setback. I will not and cannot let that happen to the WTA and its players.

As a result, and with the full support of the WTA Board of Directors, I am announcing the immediate suspension of all WTA tournaments in China, including Hong Kong. In good conscience, I don’t see how I can ask our athletes to compete there when Peng Shuai is not allowed to communicate freely and has seemingly been pressured to contradict her allegation of sexual assault. Given the current state of affairs, I am also greatly concerned about the risks that all of our players and staff could face if we were to hold events in China in 2022.

I have been gratified by the massive amount of international support the WTA has received for its position on this matter. To further protect Peng and many other women throughout the world, it is more urgent than ever for people to speak out. The WTA will do everything possible to protect its players. As we do so, I hope leaders around the world will continue to speak out so justice can be done for Peng, and all women, no matter the financial ramifications.

I very much regret it has come to this point. The tennis communities in China and Hong Kong are full of great people with whom we have worked for many years. They should be proud of their achievements, hospitality and success. However, unless China takes the steps we have asked for, we cannot put our players and staff at risk by holding events in China. China’s leaders have left the WTA with no choice. I remain hopeful that our pleas will be heard and the Chinese authorities will take steps to legitimately address this issue.”

On the eve of the 57th raising day of the Border Security Force (BSF) which is one of the elite para-military forces in India, news has emerged that by 2022, India will try to complete the border fencing work in most parts between the north-eastern states and Bangladesh and fortify the security along the international frontiers, the BSF officials said on Tuesday.

The smuggling of narcotics, cattle, and various other contraband, apart from terror infiltrations are still going on along the India-Bangladesh borders, and after the BSF got the mandate to search and seize suspects and suspected vehicles 50km from the international border to a large extent, there has been a reduction on such activities.

As per Tripura frontier Inspector General Susanta Kumar Nath out of the state’s 856 km border with Bangladesh, 67 km of patches still remained unfenced due to various reasons, however, these gaps will be fenced by next year. Four north-eastern states — Tripura (856 km), Meghalaya (443 km), Mizoram (318 km), and Assam (263 km), share a 1,880-km border with Bangladesh.

As per data released by the BSF, the Tripura frontier has apprehended 208 intruders attempting an illegal crossing of the international border which includes 115 Indian Nationals and 93 Bangladeshi against the 131 intruders (85 Indians and 46 Bangladeshis) arrested last year and IG Nath said, drugs and contrabands worth around Rs 13 crore have been seized this year.

In Meghalaya, fencing on a 72.2 km stretch in the Khasi Hills region is yet to start due to various reasons including land acquisition issues and riverine problems. According to BSF Meghalaya Frontier Principal Staff Officer D. Haokip the state shares 444.8 km-long international border with Bangladesh.

Kerala HC reduces quantum of punishment for Catholic priest who raped and impregnated a minor

In a strange twist of justice, the Kerala High Court on Wednesday (December 1), reduced the quantum of sentence that was awarded to an ex-Catholic pedophile priest and convicted rapist Robin Mathew Vadakkumchery from 20 years to 10 years.

Vadakkumchery had raped a minor girl who later became pregnant in 2016 and this case made several headlines and it became famous as the Kottiyoor rape case.

However, in a fresh order before a single-judge Bench of Justice Narayana Pisharadi, the Kerala High Court reduced the charges against Robin from Indian Penal Code Section 376 (2) to Section 376 (1)and thus reduced the term of rigorous imprisonment to 10 years and the appeal filed by the accused was disposed and a fine was imposed.

The catholic priest said the sex with the minor was consensual when he confessed to his crime and the defence counsel had the audacity to justify this heinous crime by citing instances from the Puranas and Indian texts and claiming that it was normal human conduct.

The case of a Catholic priest raping and impregnating a minor girl of his parish came to light in February 2017 after the victim delivered a child at a hospital in Kannur.

Father Robin as he was known to his parishioners had raped and impregnated the victim when he was a priest at the Mananthavady Catholic diocese in 2016.

But what is even more shocking was the extent the Church went to protest this rapist initially when the girl’s father was forced to confess to raping his own daughter which he shamelessly complied or was under intense pressure from the Christain community that was intended to protect the reputation of the Catholic Church.

When the threat of arrest loomed large, father Robin Mathew Vadakkumchery even attempted to flee the country to Canada, however, police caught him before his flight from justice.

In the court when the case was being deliberated, the victim and her family turned hostile and claimed that the sexual act was consensual. However, a POCSO court in Thalassery in Kannur stated that the girl was minor and could not consent to a sexual relationship.

If initially, the Church may have had induced the victim’s father to hold himself guilty of the crime, but in July 2020, the minor girl and the accused filed a joint petition, seeking permission to get married.

However, when the court struck down the petition,  they approached the Supreme Court in August this year to get married, but, it was also rejected by the apex court.

The trial court had sentenced Robin Mathew Vadakkumchery to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment in February 2019 and fined ₹2 lacs.

While handing out the verdict, the trial court said, “This is a case where A1 (Robin) by his sexual adventures wrecked the life of a young girl. The wreckage was massive. I am of the view that the sentence to be imposed upon A1 has to match with the gravity of the offences. However, considering the facts that the child born to PW1 (victim) and Al is growing and the child did not have the fortune of meeting his father till date, I desist from imposing life sentence upon Al.”

Assam Police and BSF intercept smugglers transporting stolen cows to Bangladesh

After Hemanta Biswas Sarma became Chief Minister of Assam, the Assam police and the Border Security Force (BSF) have taken stern measures to end the illegal smuggling and transportation of cows into Bangladesh.

So now cow smugglers are looking for a new route as the Assam police and BSF have almost sealed all the transit routes to Bangladesh through land and water.

Also helping the authorities is the enacting the Cattle Protection Act 2021 in Assam which has allowed the police to take tough action against cow smugglers.

Guwahati city police on Tuesday (November 30) successfully managed to intercept six trucks carrying 131 cows without valid documents.

The police suspected that the cows were stolen and transported from Sonitpur and Sivasagar district and in that process, the police seized the vehicles and arrested 6 cow smugglers Md. Abdul Sattar, Md. Ikramul Hussain, Md. Saidul Talikdar, Makhidul Islam, Jamiruddin, Amir Karmakar and Dipak Nahak.

All arrested cow smugglers are from the Samaguri area of Nagaon district and the cows that were being transported were on their way to Bangladesh through Meghalaya.

In Nagaon, the police have recovered 112 Cattles and arrested 21 cow smugglers and 10 vehicles were also seized in various areas under Kaliabor Sub-division in the last two weeks for attempting to illegally transport cows for butchering.

Madras HC orders demolition of Church built on govt land

The Madras High Court has directed the Kancheepuram district collector to demolish an illegal structure, a church, built by a pastor on a government ‘Meikal poromboke’ land, within four weeks.

The collector was also directed to conduct and enquiry with regard to the negligence of duty and lapses committed by the local RDO and the Tahsildar in Sriperumbudur for not taking action allowing such illegal activities even after a complaint was filed.

After going through records and listening to arguments placed by both sides of the counsel, the judge found that Pastor C Sathrack had encroached government land to build a Church even after protest from local residents and warnings issued by local authorities.

The direction to enquire about the Tahsildar came from the judge because the Tahsildar and other lower levell authorities colluded with the pastor to build the Church on government land. “It is needless to state that if any such illegal encroachments or illegal constructions of religious institutions are found, then the district Collector is bound to initiate actions by following the procedures as contemplated under law,” the judge, SM Subramaniam said.
