From the beginning, Ijaz lied about everything and told Apoorva that he works as an auto driver in his free time as he was pursuing his education. On the other hand, Apoorva Puranik hailed from a good family and has studied MBA.

However, Apoorva against her family’s wishes married Ijaz in 2018, converted to Islam, changed her name to Arfa Bano, and started following wearing a burqa and hijab.

Republican Senator wants to put on hold the nomination of Eric Garcetti as ambassador to India

In a development that could be good for India, Republican Senator Charles Grassley has asked Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to delay the nomination of Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti who was nominated by President Joe Biden to become US ambassador to India.

According to toe Grassley, the nomination of Garcetti, a close ally of Biden should be put on hold pending investigation regarding sexual harassment of his adviser.

“The United States owes it to the Republic of India to send them a qualified Ambassador that will represent the values of the United States,” Grassley said in the documents sent to McConnell on Thursday to notify the Senate.

“Mayor Garcetti may very well be fully qualified, but at this time, the Senate needs to look into these allegations further,” he added.

In January, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee had confirmed the nomination of Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti to be the next US ambassador to India. However, such an important nomination has to be approved by a majority of the US Senate.

Eric Garcetti is a close confidant of Joe Biden and supported him during this campaign during the presidential election and this move is a reward for his support. But many think Garcetti does not have the experience to hold such an important position because of the complex geopolitical situation and the future of American security in the region.

Also, if Eric Garcetti’s nomination fails, it will be a good thing because he has made a series of statements that have not gone well in India and he has absolutely no international experience.

In his opening statement during his hearing for his nomination in the Senate, Garcetti said, “If confirmed, I intend to double-down on our efforts to strengthen India’s capacity to secure its borders, defend its sovereignty, and deter aggression – through information sharing, counterterrorism coordination, joint freedom of navigation patrols and military exercises (which I have participated in as a naval officer alongside my Indian counterparts), and sales of our best defence technologies in order to realise the full potential of our Major Defence Partnership,”.

But he also said human rights, including in the context of the Citizenship Amendment Act, will be a “core” part of his work in India.

The Kashmir Files: The Raw Untold Truth That Needs To Be Told

Most of the films that comes out of Bollywood these days are trash. Except for the extravaganza and making stereotypes of those south of the Vindhyas, they really offer nothing meaningful. But rarely a few good ones do make it through. The Kashmir Files is one such.

It has taken three decades to even muster the courage and tell about the horrific exodus of Kashmiri Hindus who were forcefully made to become refugees in their own country. The Kashmir Files is a movie centered on the real-life incidents based on interviews with victims who have lived through the horrors of the genocide.

The movie starts with a gut-wrenching scene where an Islamic terrorist feeding blood-soaked rice to a Kashmiri Hindu woman. This very first scene of the movie sets the tone for what is to come forth – raw unadulterated truth.

The plot of the movie is simple. Krishna Pandit, victim of the first generation Kashmiri Pandit Genocide, who never lived in Kashmir except for few years, firmly believes there was no genocide, and it was exodus. He and his friends are conditioned to rebel against the initiatives of the Government of India, especially Abrogation of Article 370 and Indian armed forces who are depicted as villains.

Death of Krishna’s grandfather brings him to the get-together of his grandfather’s friends who survived the Kashmiri Pandit Genocide in the valley. The story unravels from there and ends with his speech on glory of Kashmir, the epic center of knowledge to the world.

Very few movie makers have taken such bold stories to silver screen without any adulteration. Vivek Agnihotri has done it unabashedly with scenes of brutal murder of Kashmiri Hindus and strong dialogues against ecosystem hiding the truth.

Vivek Agnihotri hits two balls with one shot. He uses a ‘woke’ Kashmiri Pandit youth to narrate the horrors that the community has gone through and while doing so he gives a tight slap to all the nefarious negationist intellectual elites who deny and underplay the horrors.

It takes sheer belief in the truth for actors and technicians to involve themselves in this project. So, special kudos to the industry veterans like Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Prakash Melwadi, Puneet Issar, and Pallavi Menon who have beautifully portrayed the characters of first generation Kashmiri pandits who forcibly fled Kashmir.

There is nothing else for someone like me to review on the ‘craft’ or other aspects. But if you’re wondering whether to watch the movie or not, then let me conclude by saying this.

Every Indian must watch this movie and feel remorse for not speaking about this for so long.

What Made Yogi Adityanath ‘Bulldoze’ His Way To Power In Uttar Pradesh

History has been made in Uttar Pradesh with the BJP’s phenomenal victory. Though the party has won 255 seats (57 down from its 2017 tally), there has been a rise in its vote share which has gone up from 39.67% to 41.3%.

While some said that no party in the state has ever managed to get a consecutive second term, others including the Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav himself peddled superstition that a sitting CM who visits Noida won’t be able to come back to power.

And who can forget all the rhetoric about corpses floating in Ganga during the second wave of the pandemic!

Breaking all the jinxes and busting all the rhetorics, CM Yogi has managed to come back to power in a resounding victory.

A lot has been said and written about Yogi Adityanath. He has been demonized as a ‘militant monk’ and eulogized as a ‘bulldozer baba’.

But what is it that has catapulted him to rule the massive of state of Uttar Pradesh once again?

Well, the answer is simple.

People trust CM Yogi.

And why do they trust him?

There are many reasons.

Law & Order

One of the main reasons for which people have rewarded the Yogi government has been bringing the law & order situation of the state under control.

Whenever Samajwadi Party had been in power, blood flowed on the streets of Uttar Pradesh. Goons with guns roamed around the streets in broad-day light. Uttar Pradesh was dreaded as a lawless state where criminals thrived and ruled. Rapes, murders, kidnapping, and gang wars, were an everyday affair.

In short, Uttar Pradesh had become synonymous with Gunda Raj during the rule of the father-son duo.

But the arrival of Yogi Raj saw ruthless crackdown on criminals. Those who roamed with streets blazing guns, surrendered voluntarily to the police fearing encounter. Rape cases have fallen by 10% since 2013 and the number of murders have gone down by 25%. Not a single communal riot broke out in the last five years, unlike the earlier period when Uttar Pradesh saw its worst ever communal riot in its history during the Muzaffarnagar Riots in 2013 that left 62 dead and thousands displaced. Even if sporadic events did take during the anti-CAA and anti-farm laws protests, the rioters were dealt appropriately.

This ironhand approach of dealing with criminals has earned goodwill among people especially women.

Connectivity

For long, roads, electricity, access to healthcare and education remained out of bounds for people living in remote parts of the state.

Ever since CM Yogi came to power, Uttar Pradesh has seen massive development on all fronts especially on infrastructure.

The hitherto neglected regions like Bundelkhand is undergoing a massive transformation under the leadership of CM Yogi and PM Modi.

Back in 2017, when CM Yogi took over the reigns, Uttar Pradesh had just 2 functional expressways – the Yamuna Expressway connecting Agra with Delhi and the Lucknow-Agra Expressway. These two expressways took 10 years to complete, from 2007 to 2017.

Though the Purvanchal Expressway was conceived during the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Govt, it was there just on paper. It was only in the latter half of 2018 that actual work began on the expressway and it was completed in a record time of just 3 years!

This happened because of a radical paradigm shift in work culture that was brought to the UP administration by CM Yogi Adityanath.

Today, the Purvanchal Expressway, Ganga Expressway, Bundelkhand Expressway, Gorakhpur Link Expressway are spanning across the length and breadth of the state and is opening up new economic horizons bringing development to the unreached parts. The establishment of the defence corridor has all the more given a boost for the industrial development of the state.

It is not just roads but the Yogi government also given a massive boost for air connectivity. From 1947 to 2017, there were just 2 airports in the state with full fledged commercial operations.  But in just a span of five years, eight airports were made functional in the state with construction of the country’s largest airport in Noida underway.

Delivery

Another crucial factor that has played a big role is the double-engine government of Modi-Yogi and its ability to provide last mile delivery of welfare schemes.

1.95 crore toilets have been built under Swachh Bharat. 29 lakh houses have been constructed under PM Awas Yojana. 26.6 lakh tap water connections have been provided under Har Ghar Jal since the start of the scheme in 2019. More than 1.4 crore LPG connections have been provided under Ujjwala Yojana.

All this without the poor having to grease the hands of middlemen, thanks to the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) initiative.

For the first time, the people of UP have seen government schemes actually reach them.

Cultural Revivalism

Last but not the least. By being unapologetically Hindu and wearing his identity on the sleeve, CM Yogi has stirred up the Hindu-ness that was for long buried deep under people’s hearts and minds.  The buliding of Kashi Vishwanath Temple Corridor and the steadfast construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya has resulted in enhancing CM Yogi’s image along with that of PM Modi’s.

It is primarily because of these factors that people of Uttar Pradesh have reposed their faith in the Yogi Govt.

DRDO, HAL and private defense companies enter crucial phase in developing AMCA advanced stealth fighter

India has now entered into the crucial phase towards manufacturing Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) in association with Defence Research Development Organisation’s (DRDO) Aeronautical Development Agency and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to give the Indian Air Force Force (IAF) and the Indian Navy with the advanced stealth aircraft 5.5 Generation twin-engine stealth fighter.

The development of the 5.5 generation fighter is a synergy between HAL, ADA, and private defence firms to manufacture the combat jet as the design and development continue.

The advanced stealth aircraft that is being developed by India will be a multi-role fighter, capable of carrying out air superiority, ground strike, suppression of enemy air defences and electronic warfare missions. The naval version of the aircraft will become the primary combat jet that will be operating from the Indian Navy’s aircraft carriers.

The aim of AMCA is to give India air dominance and superiority in battle and as per reports available in the public domain, the first two squadrons in AMCA MK-1 configuration will be powered engines that are imported.

However, Indian scientists and engineers have been working to develop a made-in-India 125-kilonewton engine and the five squadrons will have advanced features (Mark 2) along with 6th Generation technologies.

As of now the new engine for the fighter is being jointly developed by DRDO and Safran of France.

The fighter will have stealth features and will have a three-dimensional thrust vectoring, made-in-India Uttam active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar, and internal weapons bay to bolster the stealth capabilities of the aircraft.

The maximum speed of the AMCA fighter will be over 2,600 kilometres per hour (Mach 2.15), with a combat range of 1,620 km and it will be equipped with 23 mm cannon with 14 hardpoints in non-stealth version to carry armaments weighing 6,500 kgs.

Addressing the media, Girish S Deodhare, Director General of ADA stated, “The configuration has been frozen, Preliminary Service Quality Requirements (PSQR) are finalised and the preliminary design review is complete. The Critical Design Review (CDR) is expected later this year with the rollout planned in 2024 and first flight planned in 2025.”

US lawmakers want Pak ambassador to be investigated for ties with Islamic terror groups

US lawmakers Scott Perry, W Gregory Steube, and Mary E Miller have demanded an investigation against Masood Khan former president of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and current Pakistan ambassador to the United States for his links with terrorist and Islamist outfits.

After some delay, the US government had approved the nomination of Khan as its Ambassador to Washington, however, a prominent US Congressman had urged President Joe Biden to reject his diplomatic credentials and termed him a “bona fide terrorist sympathiser.”

In their letter dated March 9 to US Attorney General Merrick Garland, lawmakers Scott Perry, W Gregory Steube and Mary E Miller said that Khan has a close relationship with domestic actors linked with the Pakistani regime and they view this as a critical concern.

“It is vital to US national security that our government investigate any potential Foreign Agent Registration Act (FARA) violation with regard to Ambassador Khan.

“He clearly supports terrorists, and if this Administration is happy to provide him with a diplomatic visa, the American People deserve – at the very least – the due diligence from our government for a thorough investigation and answers,” the three lawmakers said.

The lawmakers have reminded the long history of Pakistan using US actors as agents of their government and reminded the AG that in 2011, Virginia activist Ghulam Nabi Fai was charged by American prosecutors with serving as a secret agent of the Pakistani government.

“Fai pleaded guilty and admitted to extensive contact with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). It emerged that the ISI had transferred USD 3.5 million to Fai and his organisation, the Kashmiri American Council,” they said.

In the letter, the three lawmakers also pointed out that, “Masood Khan also has also been tied closely to Pakistani efforts to marginalise India in the United States.

“Even as Friends of Kashmir hosted an event with two operatives with ties to Lashkar-e-Taiba in 2017 (the US-designated terrorist group which carried out the deadly 2008 Mumbai attacks in which 166 people, including Americans, were killed), Masood Khan continued to meet with the head of Friends of Kashmir on a regular basis, with social media posts highlighting several meetings at Mr.
Khan’s residence in Pakistan,” the three lawmakers said on the letter.

“In addition, while Masood Khan was ‘President of Azad Kashmir’, a registered 501(c)(3) organisation called Helping Hand for Relief and Development (HHRD) repeatedly enjoyed praise from Khan and his office, which declared its commitment to “cooperation” with the HHRD11 – even after the US Congress raised concerns about HHRD’s open cooperation with designated terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba,” the letter said.

“Given the Ambassador’s unusual closeness to the aforementioned Islamist groups, we request an investigation into the nature of Mr Khan’s relationships with them,” the lawmakers demanded.
