Pro-Khalistani Canadian politician Jagmeet Singh condemns truckers in Canada

Sikh Canadian politician and leader of Canada’s New Democratic Party (NDP) who supported the so-called disruptive and violent farmer’s agitation in India have condemned the truckers strike in Ottawa that has paralysed Canada.

However, Jagmeet Singh who has always spoken in support of the Khalistan movement and had also thrown his weight behind last years farmers protest has now condemned a convoy of truckers and said the people behind the demonstration are pushing “false information” through “inflammatory, divisive and hateful comments” and he does not support a campaign that harbours “extremist and dangerous views” and “unequivocally” disapproves of his brother-in-law’s decision to donate, the report said.

The protest that made the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau hide in an undisclosed location is being organised by Canada Unity, a group that opposes Covid-19-related measures and they intend to push the Trudeau government to drop the vaccine mandate for truckers and do away with other public health protections.

“Bizarre, Unconvincing, Jaundiced View”: TN Guv’s stinging remarks in sending back DMK’s anti-NEET bill

The Anti-NEET bill of the Tamil Nadu government was sent back to the Speaker of the assembly by the Governor RN Ravi on February 1, 2022. Ever since the bill was sent back, the DMK government has been blaming and accusing the Governor for the act while Article 200 of the Constitution has vested the Governor with the power to resend a bill to the Assembly for reconsideration.

Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu BJP has been asking the DMK government to publish a white paper on medical college admissions in the state and also give a point by point clarification on the points raised by the Governor. However, the state’s Health Minister Ma Subramaniam had said that the Governor did not ask any questions in the response that he had sent. Now, the original copy of the letter has been released, and the Governor has asked some valid questions in his reply.

Speaking about the AK Rajan committee’s report, the Governor had written, “I find the report utterly unconvincing for the following reasons: A. The report is based on several unsubstantiated sweeping assumptions he said pointing out how the report had mentionedd that ‘NEET is directionless’, ‘NEET is anti-merit’, etc.

He had then continued,  “According to the report, NEET is heavily biased in favour of Physics, Chemistry and Biology instead of being open to test ‘all possible knowledge’ as in the State Board Examinations. It is beyond argument that the Medical profession is a highly specialised discipline of Science, in which a reasonably sound knowledge of the basics of Physics, Chemisty and Biology is a pre-requisite. The Report taking adverse note of tests in these essential subjects and instead introducing an undefined concept of ‘all possible knowledge’ appears bizarre and without merit.”

Speaking about the poor quality of education in the state’s government schools, the Governor had written, “Statistics cited in the Report show that in the pre-NEET years only some 30-38 students (hardly 1%) from the Government schools, were able to get admissions in Government Medical Colleges. It reflects the sorry state of affairs in the Government Schools which cater mostly to the poor students. Ignoring this crucial fact coming in the way of social justice the Report instead goes off the tangent and blames NEET.”

Writing about coaching, “The Report argues against NEET on the ground that it is against social justice as it allegedly favours the rich students who take the advantage of coaching, which the poor cannot afford. However, it totally ignores the fact that coaching skews the State Board results also.

It is apparent from the above facts that the Report merely reflects the jaundiced view of the High Level Committee.”

The Governor had quoted the Christian Medical College Vellore Association vs The Union of India (2020) case, where the Supreme Court upheld that NEET is not against Social Justice and that it will help improve medical education. He then wrote, “When the Hon’ble Supreme Court has found NEET to be in the national interest and also for the protection of the weaker section of society, will it be open for the State government to seek an exemption from NEET, particularly in view of the fact that the same has been held to be mandatory and applicable across the country?”

Disaster relief funds to reach TN only if Fin Min PTR is replaced?

The rains and subsequent flooding that Tamil Nadu saw in November 2021, had affected almost 20 districts in the state. The state government had requested the Central government to provide ₹6,203 crores for disaster management. Even though 2 months have passed since the Central government’s team conducted an enquiry of the situation, the funds have still not reached the state.

₹500 crores, which was allocated for Tamil Nadu in the last Central Government budget, for the state to take up Disaster Management works, is still to reach the state. The Central government has not responded even after the higher officials of the Revenue department went to Delhi to speak about this.

The Tamil Nadu finance officials have reportedly asked the Finance Ministry officials from the Centre about why relief funds were not being released to the state. The higher officials of the Union Finance Ministry reportedly told that they are dissatisfied with the Tamil Nadu Finance Minister, Palanivel Thiagarajan. The statements of the Minister in the GST Council meeting has also apparently been provocative instigating other state’s officials. He has been accusing the Central Government, ever since he took responsibility as a Minister while showing no progress in implementation of reforms.

The Central Government officials have reportedly told that they are not willing to change their stance, until the Finance Minister changes his attitude. The minister is already dissatisfied with him being deprived of his party post of DMK IT Wing head. Now, those in the corridors of Arivalayam have been murmuring if more trouble is on the way for PTR if the state government contemplates about replacing him.

TN BJP Spokesperson SG Suryah moves Delhi HC against restriction of access to Facebook account

Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Tamil Nadu spokesperson, SG Suryah, has moved the Delhi High Court (HC) challenging the decisions taken by Meta (Facebook) to restrict access and to demonetise his account, without giving him a chance to be heard for his explanation. The petition was listed before Justice Kameswar Rao, who has called for the hearing of the matter on February 9th.

SG Suryah said that two of his videos were removed from the Meta platform in December 2021, because it allegedly violated community guidelines. After this, the access to his Facebook account was restricted for a month. Following which his account was also demonetised. His plea to the Delhi HC is to reinstate his Facebook account with the same kind of reach he had, back in November 2021.

Suryah claimed that the content of the said YouTube videos was against the Liberations Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), made by a novelist, orator and journalist, Jayakanthan. However, Meta had allegedly marked the two videos as ‘pro LTTE’ and went ahead to restrict access to his Facebook, following which it was also demonetised.

“The Respondent No.2 misinterpreted the contents of aforesaid two posts, which were posted in tamil language and took a wrongful decision by restricting the Petitioner’s reach to the public at large and that too without even affording any opportunity of hearing to the Petitioner” the petition stated.

SG Suryah claimed in his plea, “There is no sanction for this action under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the latest the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 made thereunder.”

In addition, as Suryah was not given an opportunity to be heard before his account was restricted, he said that Meta has violated the Fundamental Rights of Suryah, referring to Articles 14, 19 and 21. In view of the above, he sought directions to Meta/Facebook to reinstate his account and to quash the decision to demonetize it.

PM Modi gives befitting rebuttal to DMK & Cong’s “Union Of States” remark

Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his speech in the Lok Sabha launched a scathing attack on those parties who had called India as a ‘Union of State’ belittling the idea of India as one nation.

“Speaker Sir, There has been a talk about our nation in the House. These talks are astonishing. Before I place my argument, I want to mention one thing. And I am quoting this… “, PM Modi said citing lines from Jawaharlal Nehru’s famous book ‘The Discovery Of India’.

“It is fascinating to find how the Bengalis, the Marathas, the Gujratis, the Tamils, the Andhras, the Oriyas, the Assamese, the Canarese, the Malayalis, the Sindhis, the Punjabis, the Pathans, the Kashmiris, the Rajputs, and the great central block comprising the Hindustani-speaking people, have retained their peculiar characteristics for hundreds of years, have still more or less the same virtues and failings of which old tradition or record tells us, and yet have been throughout these ages distinctively Indian, with the same national heritage and the same set of moral and mental qualities.” PM Modi quoted these lines from the book written by India’s first Prime Minister.

“Speaker Sir, this quotation which talks about the speciality of us Indians, I want to emphasize on two words – national heritage. This quote is by Pandit Nehru ji. This was told by Nehru ji which is there in his book Discovery of India. Our national heritage is one. Our moral and mental qualities are one.  Is this happen without the idea of a nation? The House has been insulted by saying that the Constitution makes no mention of ‘nation’.”, PM Modi said with shouts of ‘Shame’ targeting the Opposition emerging from the Treasury bench.

PM Modi mentioned that the Constitution values integrity of the nation as supreme.

“Why is the Congress insulting our nation?” PM Modi said.

PM Modi further added “Speaker Sir, the nation is not about those in power or any government. Speaker Sir, for us, the nation is a living soul.”.

PM Modi also mentioned that the idea of Indian nation has been in existence for thousands of years.

Quoting verses from Vishnu Puranam, PM Modi said “Uttaram yat samudrasya, Himadreshchaiv dakshinam, varsham tad bharatam nama, Bharatee yatra santatihi” meaning ‘to the north of the ocean and to the south of the Himalayas, Bharat is the country and the people born there are the Bharatees.”

Taking a veiled attack at the Congress saying that the party might feel ‘allergic’ t Hindu ideas, he said “If Congress doesn’t accept Vishnu Puraan, I will use another quote. Because Congress might feel allergic to certain things.”

“A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new — when an age ends, and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance. It is fitting that at this solemn moment we take the pledge of dedication to the service of India, and her people, and to the still larger cause of humanity.”, PM Modi quoted Jawaharlal Nehru’s Tryst With Destiny speech.

“Which nation was Nehru ji talking about?” PM Modi asked.

PM Modi also said that an attempt was being made to stoke Tamil sentiments and fan separatism. He mentioned that the Congress is using the British policy of ‘Divide & Rule’.

“Speaker Sir, I want to mention what the great Tamil poet and Indian freedom fighter Subramaniam Bharathi had written. My dear Tamil people, please forgive me if there are mistakes in my pronunciation but my heartfelt emotions are nothing less in spirit.” PM Modi said quoting a poem of Bharathiyar that talks about idea of India as one nation.

“மன்னும் இமயமலை யெங்கள் மலையே,

(Mannum Imayamalai Yengal Malaiye)

பன்னரும் உபநிடநூ லெங்கள் நூலே,

(Pannarum Ubanidanu Nelangal Noole)

பார் மிசை யேதொரு நூல்இது போலே?

(Paar Misai Yedhoru Nool Idhu Pole)

பொன்னொளிர் பாரதநா டெங்கள் நாடே

(Ponnolir Bharatha Naadu Engal Naade)

போற்றுவம் இஃதை எமக்கில்லை ஈடே

(Potruvom Idhai Emakillai Eede)”

The poem essentially rouses the spirit of nationalism by praising the greatness of ‘Bharat’.

PM Modi also ‘saluted’ the Tamil people for giving a befitting tribute with the slogan ‘Veera Vanakkam’ to late then Chief of Defence Staff Bipin Rawat.

“When our CDS Rawat’s death happened due to the helicopter crash and his body was being taken along the road, my Tamil brothers and sisters numbering in lakhs patiently waited for hours along the path with tears in their eyes and pride in their heart hailing ‘Veera Vanakkam Veera Vanakkam Veera Vanakkam’.

“This is my country.”, PM Modi exclaimed adding that Congress has always hated this nationalistic spirit and that divisiveness has gotten in the party’s DNA.

DMK functionary abducts PMK candidate in Vellore; PMK leader Dr. Ramadoss condemns act

Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder Dr. Ramadoss has condemned the abduction of a PMK candidate Parasuraman contesting from the Vellore Corporation, by DMK District Secretary. For the past few days, all parties have been fielding candidates ahead of the urban local body elections in Tamil Nadu. However, it is being reported that the DMK is involved in some unlawful activities, as a means to win this election in crooked ways.

The tweet that the PMK leader Dr. Ramadoss had released said, “Out of fear of losing, the DMK Secretary of Vellore has abducted the PMK candidate of the 24th zone, Parasuraman, and has threatened him to withdraw from contesting. This is to be condemned! Democracy is about the success of those who earn the respect of the people. Those who do not have the influence, should develop it, rather than threaten others.

The State Election Commission, the police and the DMK leadership should take action against the DMK Secretary who intimidated the PMK candidate.”

“NEET resolution is waste, Admit defeat and move on”: Dr. Krishnasamy writes to TN CM

Puthiya Tamilagam party leader Dr. Krishnaswamy has written a letter to Chief Minister Stalin saying it is unnecessary to pass a resolution in the assembly again on the NEET examination.

Addressing his letter to Stalin, Dr. Krishnaswamy had stated, “After winning the 2019 parliamentary elections and the 2021 assembly elections, you bought votes by promising that the NEET selection would be canceled with a single signature. The NEET selection was debated in Parliament and passed in both houses and became law. You are well aware that it is impossible for a state government to exempt itself from it. However, it does not seem fair to think of using the Governor of Tamil Nadu as a weapon and shield for your political approach and sacrificing the people of Tamil Nadu in the process.”

“Please understand the political and social realities. No rural, poor, innocent students are left behind or disadvantaged by the NEET exam. If they are relatively facing some difficulties try to further strengthen their curriculum in the state and increase the contribution of Tamil Nadu students at the All India level and provide specialised training to the students.”, Dr. Krishnasamy said.

“Again convening an assembly meeting on the 8th of February, hoping for a resolution, and pressuring the governor will only create more boredom among the public. It will also make you politically alienated and expose the tactic of using the hon’ble governor as a weapon and shield to cover up your political failures. So please drop this irresponsible move.” he further added.

He said that certain electoral promises may go unfulfilled sometimes and that the DMK and its allies will have to admit their defeat in failing to keep their promise made on NEET. He asked them to focus other many livelihood issues of the people of Tamil Nadu.

“Do not use the governor as a weapon and shield for politics! Another legislative resolution on NEET selection is unnecessary!!”, he said.

Petition filed in Madras HC asking for ban on demolition of temples

A petition has been filed in the Madras High Court asking for a proper framework for regulating the temples built on purampokku land. The petition was filed by the Spokesperson of the Hindu Munnani, D Ilango.

The petition filed by Ilango read, “16 temples have been demolished since the DMK formed the government. Many of these 16 temples are more than a hundred years old. On behalf of the HR&CE department, it is being said that the temples were demolished for renovating the old temples, and making them new. Illegal constructions, encroachment of water bodies, etc. are some reasons cited for the destruction of temple, under the Disaster Management Act, 2006.

There have been reports that temples built on Poramboke land are being demolished without prior notice. However, places of worship that belong to minority religions, have not been demolished, even if they’re encroaching land, Hindu activists allege. Many lands have belonging to the HR&CE, have been provided to encroachers.

“Therefore, there should be a ban on demolishing temples that have encroached land, without giving prior notice. Also, the court should direct for a proper framework regulating these temples, and providing them with a replacement.”, the petition read.

Genocide Watch wants Pakistan to be made accountable for mass murder and rape in Bangladesh

Finally, Pakistan will now be held accountable for its act of mass murder and rape during Bangladesh’s Liberation War in 1971 by the Genocide Watch, a US-based organisation that campaigns against all forms of mass murder.

On Thursday in commemoration of 50 years in for the formation of Bangladesh, a statement released by Genocide Watch says, “Genocide Watch recognizes the crimes committed by the Military Forces of Pakistan against the Bengali population in Bangladesh in 1971 as genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes,”.

“These crimes by the Pakistani Military Forces constituted the crimes against humanity of murder, extermination, deportation or forcible transfer of population, imprisonment or other severe deprivation of physical liberty, torture, rape, sexual violence, persecution, enforced disappearance of persons, and other inhumane acts,” the declaration states.

“Strong evidence supports the conclusion that the crimes committed against the Bengalis of East Pakistan during 1971 were widespread and systematic and carried out by the Pakistani Army, other militia forces (Razakars, Al Badr, Al Shams etc.), and pan-Islamic political forces (including Jamat e Islam, Nezam e Islam and the Muslim League).

“Conclusive research by internationally recognized genocide experts indicates that the nature, scale and organization of the Pakistani Military operations demonstrates planning and intentional design by the Pakistani junta leadership and military command to destroy a substantial part of the Bengali ethnic and national group and a substantial part of the Bengali Hindu religious group,” the report said.

Gregory Stanton, founder of Genocide Watch, called upon the United Nation General Assembly to adopt a resolution recognising the 1971 genocide in Bangladesh and asked all member states of the United Nations, especially the US, the UK, and Pakistan, to recognise the crimes committed by Pakistani Military Forces in the erstwhile East Pakistan for crimes against humanity, and war crimes.

Stanton also called to charge surviving leaders of this genocide in national courts with universal jurisdiction and proper reparations for these crimes from Pakistan to Bangladesh.

#BoycottHyundai trends on Twitter after Hyundai India fails to apologise for controversial post by Hyundai Pakistan

The Automobile company Hyundai landed in trouble on Feb 5th, after its Pakistani counterpart shared solidarity messages over Kashmir on social media. It shared a post which asked for the disintegration of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir from the Union of India.

The tweet, posted by Hyundai Pakistan Official (@PakistanHyundai), read, “Let us remember the sacrifices of our Kashmiri brothers and stand in support as they continue to struggle for freedom.” The tweet was put up along with a picture of the Dal Lake, where the word ‘Kashmir’ was juxtaposed with a barbed wire. A similar post was uploaded on the Pakistani dealership’s Facebook and Instagram pages, respectively.

Many angered Indian netizens, asked Hyundai India to tweet in support of India, and also questioned if they endorsed Hyundai Pakistan’s post. Initially, as a response to these questions, Hyundai India went on to block Indian netizens, who questioned them.

Immediately after this, netizens started trending the #BoycottHyundai on Twitter. Several users reached out to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), seeking stringent action against the South Korean automotive manufacturer.

Yesterday, one day after Hyundai Pakistan’s post, Hyundai India released a statement that it has a zero-tolerance policy towards insensitive content. However, still many netizens pointed out that nowhere in the statement was an apology mentioned for their insensitive post. “The unsolicited social media post linking Hyundai Motor India is offending our unparalleled commitment and service to this great country. India is second home to the Hyundai brand and we have a zero tolerance policy towards insensitive communication and we strongly condemn any such view,” the statement read.

The hashtag #BoycottHyundai continues to trend on Twitter, even after the release of the statement from Hyundai India, as the statement had no apology mentioned. A Twitterati had pointed out that Hyundai being the 2nd largest car manufacture in India, with 16% market share, has taken a great risk messing up. Many other Netizens had also pointed out the fact that India should boycott Hyundai, after such a statement from their side. Check out some tweets here:
