DMK Leaders Downplay And Trivialize Coimbatore Blast Incident

The gas cylinder blast incident outside the Kottai Eswaran temple in Coimbatore has sent shockwaves across the nation.

Jamesa Mubin, who allegedly blew himself up in the vehicle laden with gas cylinders was a radicalised man and was reportedly preparing for an attack similar to the 2019 Sri Lanka Easter bombing.

Nails and ball bearings supposedly meant for inflicting maximum casualties were also recovered from the spot.

Investigtors had recovered handwritten paper documents recovered from the house of Jamesha Mubeen listing the popular spots in Coimbatore that they had plans to recce or were already done. Chemicals used for making crude bombs were also found at his house.

Hours before the incident, Mubin had posted a WhatsApp status which read “If the news of my death reaches you, forgive my mistakes. Hide my shortcomings. Participate in my Janasa. Pray for me.”

Mubin was earlier investigated by the NIA in 2019 as he had been attending Bayan classes at a Coimbatore mosque of the Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamath.

He was also under the radar of Tamil Nadu police for attempting to blast an explosive a few years back.

The Tamil Nadu police have arrested five persons – Mohammad Thalka (25), Mohammad Asarudheen (25), Mohammad Riyaz (27), Feroz Ismail (27) and Mohammad Navaz Ismail (27) – have been arrested and have been booked under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

A CCTV footage retrieved from a building near Mubin’s house which is under investigation, shows four men carrying a large object in a gunny sack which is suspected to be a gas cylinder.

With prima facie evidences from investigations pointing it to be a terror act, DMK leaders have been downplaying and trivializing the serious security threat.

‘Mylai’ Velu, the DMK MLA from Mylapore trivialised the Coimbatore blast and made unsavoury remarks about Tamil Nadu BJP President Annamalai.

On Tuesday (October 25), Annamalai, in his Twitter handle, criticised Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin over his alleged irresponsible handling of the Coimbatore blast, saying, “Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin who failed to provide security to people during the festive season should do some introspection.”

In response to the criticism, Mylai DMK MLA Velu downplayed the explosion, saying,”Why these needless words. Those who incited the crime should be punished first, rather than the perpetrators. Entire Tamil Nadu knows who is the reason for this (alleged “cylinder blast”). Go to the butcher shop and put your head in there. Tamil Nadu will be peaceful.”

Through his tweet, the DMK MLA implied that it was BJP who triggered the Islamist fundamentalist to carry out the blast in Coimbatore and that the BJP should be punished for this crime. He also attempted to ridicule Annamalai by calling him a goat (AADU) and saying, “Go and keep your head in butcher shop.”

In another case, Isai, the State Deputy Secretary of DMK IT Wing, had shared a clip from Tamil movie Kadhalan in which the antagonist discusses with another man about creating a law and order situation through bomb blasts in order to topple the government.

This clip was shared by the DMK IT Wing leader suggesting that the Coimbatore blasts was a handiwork of the BJP.

The tweet by Isai was retweeted by Mannargudi DMK MLA and the party’s IT Wing head TRB Rajaa.

These comments by the DMK leaders has drawn flak from people.

Accused In Coimbatore “Cylinder Blast” Case Has Links With 1998 Coimbatore Serial Blast Convicts

On 25 October 2022, the Coimbatore City Police arrested five Islamist radicals in connection with the gas cylinder blast incident that happened on the wee hours of 23 October 2022 in which 25-year-old Jamesa Mubin of Ukkadam was killed.

In connection with the incident, the police have apprehended the following terror suspects – Mohammad Dhalha (25), Mohammad Azarudheen (25), Mohammad Riyaz (27), Feroz Ismail (27), and Mohammad Navaz Ismail (27) who are all from Coimbatore district.

On Tuesday, the police said that they had charged the five suspects under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

More worrisome information about the accused’s past emerged during the police investigation into the alleged Coimbatore “cylinder blast” case.

Further investigation by the Tamil Nadu Police revealed that one of the suspects, Mohammed Dhalka, who was detained for giving a car to the main accused Jamesa Mubin, who died in the blast, is the son of an accused involved in the 1998 Coimbatore serial blasts case.

In February 1998, a series of bomb blasts in Coimbatore targeting BJP leader Advani had killed at least 60 people.

The banned Islamic fundamentalist outfit Al-Umma, headed by one Syed Ahmed Basha was found to be responsible for the blasts who was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2003.

Nawab Khan, Basha’s brother, was sentenced to one-life term and 27 years of rigorous imprisonment.

According to the police, Mohammad Dhalka is the son of Nawab Khan (nephew of S.A. Basha).

Coimbatore Blast: UAPA Invoked On Terror Suspects Hours After BJP’s Annamalai Raises Issue In Press Meet

On 25 October 2022, the Coimbatore City Police arrested five Islamist radicals in connection with the gas cylinder blast incident that happened on the wee hours of 23 October 2022 in which 29-year-old Jamesa Mubin of Ukkadam was killed.

The blast happened outside the famous ‘Kottai Eshwaran Temple’.

During a search at Mubin’s house, the police recovered a large cache of explosive material like potassium nitrate, aluminium, and sulfur, which are used to make crude bombs.

Though they were arrested, the Tamil Nadu police had not slapped sections of Unlawful Activites Prevention Act (UAPA) against the terror accused.

This was flagged by BJP Tamil Nadu President K. Annamalai who during a press meet on 25 October 2022 mentioned that the there was incriminating evidence to invoke UAPA.

He asked who the Tamil Nadu police is trying to protect.

BBC Tamil Journo Quotes Italian Missionary To Claim “Deepavali Is Not Tamil Festival”

In an attempt to alienate the Deepavali festival from Tamil culture, serving evangelist propaganda, a BBC Tamil journalist quoted an Italian missionary to claim “Deepavali is not a Tamil festival”.

Muralitharan, a BBC Tamil journalist, had written an elaborate article trying to prove that there is no evidence of the Deepavali festival in Tamil literature until the 19th century.

He had quoted the works of Veeramamunivar to buttress his claims.

However, the real name of the “Veeramamunivar” is Constantine Joseph Beschi, an Italian Jesuit Priest and South Indian missionary.

Muralitharan quoting the Italian missionary wrote “The word ‘Deepavali’ is not found in ‘Sathuragarathi’ written by Veeramamunivar in 1732. Similarly, the term ‘Deepavali’ does not appear in Tamil literature until the nineteenth century.”

By quoting Manippai’s Tamil to Tamil dictionary, released in Sri Lanka in 1842, he mentioned that the word “Deepavali” appeared in Tamil literature for the first time and that the festival may have been introduced into Tamil Nadu at that time.

He added, “According to Tamil tradition, all our festivals are celebrated in the post-harvest period. Po.Velsamy says this festival may have become popular in the 19th and early 20th centuries. He also said U.V. Saminathaiyar’s biographical book, En Sarithram, has nothing much to say about Deepavali.”

He also tried to give a spin that Deepavali may be a Jain festival, following the standard template of Dravidian Stockists and Christian missionaries who ascribe anything and everything good to Jainism which had a considerable influence among the Tamil populace back in the day.

He quoted Seeni Venkatasamy, who said, “While staying in the king’s palace, Vardhamana Mahavira, the last Tirthankara of Jainism, delivered a sermon to the people of Bhavapuri. The sermon lasted all night and ended at dawn. As a result, people slept wherever they could without going home. In his seat, Mahavira attained Moksha as well. Deepavali is celebrated at dawn because Mahavira attained Moksha at dawn. Following the decline of Jainism, many Jains converted to Hinduism and continued to celebrate Deepavali.”

“Tho Paramasivan also claims that there is no Deepavali festival in ancient Tamil Nadu,” he continued. This is discussed in his book ‘Festivals in Socio-Historical Perspective.’ “The general period of Tamil Nadu festivals is from the Tamil month of Thai to the month of Adi,” said Paramasivan. Tamil Nadu is in the tropics. As a result, the festival season in Tamil Nadu is when there is no agricultural work. During this time, Tamil Nadu’s local deities are celebrated.

Deepavali, a popular festival today, was introduced to Tamil Nadu by Telugu Brahmins during the reign of the Vijayanagara kings. In North India, Deepavali is festival of Jains,” he added.

He went on to say that Ayodhidaasar claimed Deepavali was a Buddhist festival that was stolen by Brahmins.

“But when most people celebrate a festival with joy, it is better to leave the research of where it came from and whether we should celebrate it and celebrate it if we want to,” he concluded, quoting Sivasubramaniam, a researcher of local deities.

Coimbatore Blast: What The Dravidian Stockist Media Won’t Tell You About Islamic Jihadi Jamesa Mubin

On 25 October 2022, the Coimbatore City Police arrested five Islamist radicals in connection with the gas cylinder blast incident that happened on the wee hours of 23 October 2022 in which 29-year-old Jamesa Mubin of Ukkadam was killed.

The five men who were identified have been identified as Mohammed Talka, Mohammed Azarudeen, Mohammed Riyas, Feroz Ismail, and Mohammed Navaz Ismail.

The blast happened outside the famous ‘Kottai Eshwaran Temple’. While mainstream media in Tamil Nadu have been trying to brush the terror angle under the rug, revelations through investigations and the invocation of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) has led to the suspicion that the blast could’ve been a terror act.

In fact, during a search at Mubin’s house, the police recovered a large cache of explosive material like potassium nitrate, aluminium, and sulfur, which are used to make crude bombs. Nails and ball bearing were also recovered from the spot where the explosion happened. It has been reported that there was a conspiracy to carry out a bomb blast akin to the 2019 Sri Lanka Easter Bombings.

An article by Saikiran Kannan to the India Today has exposed the deep ISIS plot behind the Coimbatore blast.

Who Is This Jamesa Mubin?

Jameesa Mubin from Ukkadam (a Muslim majority area in Coimbatore), was a radicalised Islamic State (IS) man and is believed to have been planning to execute the explosion either at Konniyamman Temple or Kotta Eswaran Temple in Coimbatore.

He had tried to execute an explosion a few years ago, but the attempt was thwarted by Tamil Nadu police, said sources. He was in close contacts with Mohammed Azharuddin, who is now lodged in Kerala jail for his involvement with the ISIS.

Azharudding was a Facebook friend of Zahran Hashim, the alleged mastermind of 2019 Easter church bombings that rocked Sri Lanka in 2019.

The plan here seems to have been to stage a terror strike similar to Easter bombings in Lanka in 2019 in which more than 250 people were killed.

The Growing Menace Of Islamic Radicalism In Tamil Nadu & Kerala

Back in June 2019, the NIA had conducted a series of searches at seven locations in Coimbatore. This was also a continuation of the Kasargod (Kerala) – ISIS breakthrough. A total of six people were arrested based on information received that the accused persons and their associates were propagating the ideology of ISIS on social media. They also had intentions of recruiting vulnerable youth into the ISIS for carrying out terrorist attacks in South India especially in Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

The prime accused in this arrest, Mohammed Azharudeen had been the leader of the module and had been maintaining a Facebook page named “KhilafahGFX”, through which he had been propagating the ideology of ISIS. Mohammed Azarudeen had been a Facebook friend of Sri Lankan suicide bomber Zahran Hashim and other members of the module had also been sharing radical contents attributed to Zahran Hashim, over the social media. Azharuddin also hailed from the Ukkadam area in Coimbatore.

When Azharudeen was arrested, multiple phones, sim cards, radical Islamic literature professing terror, an electric baton, guns, and other ammunition were recovered.

Another man named Ibrahim alias Shahin Shah was a close associate of one Riyas Aboobacker who had planned to conduct terrorist attacks in Kerala, on behalf of the ISIS. Aboobacker had also confessed to have been inspired by rabid Islamists Zahran Hashim and Zakir Naik.

Rashid Abdulla, who is allegedly the leader of ISIS recruitment in Kerala is said to have been killed by the US forces in Afghanistan. It was Rashid who had inspired people like Riyas Aboobacker to join the IS. His phone call recordings were part of the recent materials in possession of NIA which had helped to break into the recruitment modus operandi of IS in Kerala.

Zahran Hashim: The Radical Islamist Behind The Radicalization

The name connecting all the above individuals is Zahran Hashim, touted as the Zakir Naik of south India and Sri Lanka.

Zahran Hashim hailed from Kattankudy near Batticaloa in Sri Lanka and was of Tamil Muslim ethnicity. He ran the National Thowheed Jamaath (NTJ), a Sri Lankan Islamic Jihadist group.

His speeches and videos had great influence among his followers in Southern India and also among the Tamil Muslims in Singapore and Malaysia.

But Zahran Hashim isn’t just a Zakir Naik. He is also an Ajmal Kasab in terms of executing his terror plans.

Zahran Hashim was one of the suicide bombers in the 2019 Sri Lanka Easter Bombings in which 3 churches and and 3 hotels were targeted in Colombo killing 269 people and several hundreds injured.

Zahran Hashim – Coimbatore – Mubin

Zahran Hashim has a strong influence among the Muslims of Ukkadam. In 2018, an ISIS module in Coimbatore was busted in which a few radicalized Muslims had zeroed in on attacking Hindu leaders and activists critical of Islamic terrorism.

The IS gang had conducted recee of their targets and their locations for launching attacks to disturb the communal harmony in the states.

The videos, seized from the accused in the Coimbatore case, showed Hashim asking youths from Sri Lanka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala to establish an Islamic rule in the region.

In the Sri Lankan Easter Bombings, explosive laden vans were used to create explosions aside from suicide bombers.

It is to be noted that Mubin had 2 cylinders in his Maruti 800 which exploded prematurely according to reports. A CCTV footage shows Mubin and his freinds/associates carrying the cylinders and loading on to the car. What is worth mentioning is that Mubin was driving a petrol vehicle and not a gas-fueled car.

The blast which got him killed could’ve been triggered by mistake before the intended timing or destination. What further adds substance to the terror angle is that the gas cylinders were filled with nails to inflict maximum damage on people.

While the Tamil Nadu police have been prompt in investigating and identifying the other culprits, they along with Dravidian Stockist media in the state have been downplaying the incident as an “accidental cylinder blast” and not an act of terror.

DMK Liquor Min Threatens Legal Action Against Woman Journo For Sharing Details About Deebavali TASMAC Sales

Tamil Nadu Minister for Prohibition & Excise V. Senthil Balaji has threatened to take legal action against a journalist of The Hindu who had published details about liquor sales for Deebavali through the state-run TASMAC outlets.

On 25 October 2022, Sangeetha Kandavel of The Hindu had posted on her Twitter about the revenue earned by the Tamil Nadu government from liquor sales through its cashcow TASMAC.

Reportedly, the Tamil Nadu government earned a whopping 708.29 crore in the days leading to Deebavali.

Just on Deebavali day, the Tamil Nadu government sold ₹244.08 crores worth liquor through TASMAC.

For furnishing these details in public domain, DMK Minister V. Senthil Balaji who is minister in-charge of TASMAC has refuted the details calling it as false information.

It is worth mentioning that even DMK family-owned Sun News had published the same details.

BJP Tamil Nadu President K. Annamalai has condemned the DMK Minister for threatening and gagging the journalist.

In a social media post, Annamalai wrote “The Liquor Minister, who had no time to talk about the suicide attack in Coimbatore, will take action against the journalist who pointed out the income from TASMAC”.

“Is the liquor minister afraid that the commission he gets through these sales will be revealed?”, he had asked.

He had took a jibe at the Minister saying “if the DMK Minister has guts to make a living by selling liquor, imagine what it takes to be a journalist receiving a monthly pay to bring real news to people.”

He also asked if whether journalists have to take permission from DMK for publishing news.

Annamalai further added that the DMK Minister may take action against him rather than going after the journalist.

“Burst Lots Of Crackers, Support Sivakasi People”: Annamalai’s Msg For Deepavali

At a time when every tom, dick and harry has been radiating wokeness calling for cracker-less, noise-less, pollution-free Deepavali, BJP Tamil Nadu President K. Annamalai has given a clear message to burst lots of crackers so that the people of Sivakasi can have a Happy Deepavali.

Addressing a press meet, the BJP Tamil Nadu chief wished people for Deepavali emphasizing that bursting crackers is a part and parcel of Hindu culture.

“I wish everyone a very happy Deepavali on behalf of BJP Tamil Nadu. Let this Deepavali be a happy, peaceful and prosperous one for everyone. Burst a lot of crackers. Our friends in Sivakasi are working hard. Buy a lot of crackers and burst them. 8 lakh people’s lives are dependant on it. They are all struggling to make a living. So let us all burst a lot of crackers this Deepavali.”, he said.

“It is our culture to burst crackers. Make your children burst crackers. Don’t be bothered whether it is green crackers or not. Don’t be concerned about pollution for a day. That isn’t a problem. People are going in vehicles daily. Many educated people today are not buying crackers for their children citing pollution. Nothing will happen because of bursting crackers for a day. Sivakasi should live. Tamil Nadu should live. 95% of crackers in the country goes from Sivakasi. So, burst a lot of crackers.”, BJP Tamil Nadu chief Annamalai said.

It is worth noting that earlier in the day, G Sundarrajan of anti-development NGO Poovulagin Nanbargal, who has now been appointed as a member of the Tamil Nadu Governing Council on Climate Change had given a clarion call for banning crackers saying it causes pollution and harmful effects on people.

“Will Cut Off Your Sacred Thread”: Dravidian Stockist Suba Vee Spews Hate On Brahmins Over Badri Seshadri Controversy

Badri Seshadri is the publisher of several quality books through the publishing house ‘Kizhakku Pathippagam’.

He also takes part in a number of debate shows and is well recognised for his Indic perspectives.

Between 1996 and 2005, he served as the Chief Operating Officer of CRICINFO. He graduated from Cornell University and IIT. He was roped in as an advisory committee member for Tamil Virtual Academy by the MK Stalin government.

Badri found himself mired in a controversy over a tweet about former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK founder CN Annadurai.

A Twitter user B.S. Naseem had quoted the Hindi movie ‘Brahmastra’ and said on Twitter that there are no proper words in Hindi for things related to magic and science. Vinod Kumar, a journalist who retweeted this, said, “That’s why our former Chief Minister CN Annadurai said that you can learn Hindi in three months, after that there is nothing to learn from that language.”

Badri Seshadri responded to the tweet saying, “What a ridiculous statement! If CN Annadurai had indeed made this statement, he too should be called an idiot.”

Following this tweet, Dravidian Stockists started harassing Badri online.

DMK MP Dr. Senthil Kumar, who spearheaded the onslaught on Badri, even held a Twitter poll with both the options as “Badri should be sacked”.

Later, an executive order of the Tamil Nadu government dated 19 October 2022 announcing the members part of the advisory committee for the Tamil Virtual Academy saw Badri Seshadri’s name dropped while retaining the rabid anti-Hindu abusive troll Kannabiran Ravishankar.

In the situation, another rabid Dravidian Stockist Suba Veerapandian, who runs a fringe outfit Dravida Iyakka Tamilar Peravai, while addressing a crowd from stage adorned by DMK MPs and Ministers said,” Poonool (janeu) which was hiding so far has come out and given courage to Badri to call Anna an idiot. Remember that if the arrogance continues, the poonool will be cut.”

He went on, “I was so enraged that I told DMK MP TR Balu of the incident. TR Balu sought the video and questioned how someone could have the temerity to refer to our leader Anna as an idiot while we are in power. Within 15 minutes he (TR Balu) replied that the issue was taken to MK Stalin. Today Badri is sacked from advisory board.”

Finally, he said, “We were kind enough to continue allowing them (the Brahmins) to hold public office while we were in power. Do not test our patience.”

This speech of his has gone viral on social media with many Dravidian Stockists and DMK supporters hailing Suba Veerapandian and justifiying his speech unleashing further Nazi-style hatred against Tamil Brahmins.

https://twitter.com/lordShardT/status/1583792386593128450

One anonymous handle wrote “Do you expect cajoling if you call Anna an idiot, you Steppe parasite?”

https://twitter.com/tamilgramsi/status/1583696146354298880

Another person wrote “If you throw mud at one of the founding fathers of this state, then you have to face the consequences”

https://twitter.com/Naanepaaavam/status/1583711480163479552

Many on social media have called out the hate spewed by Suba Veerapandian asking if Tamil Nadu Chief Minister will take action against him given that the Supreme Court has asked state governments to take stringent action on hate speech.

Vatican Appointee For Kerala’s Syro-Malabar Church Faces Boycott

The Catholic community including 450 priests in southern India’s Kerala-based Syro-Malabar Church have severed all links with their apostolic (appointed by the Pope) administrator Andrews Thazhath, which has further escalated a five-decade-long liturgical dispute within the Eastern rite Church.

The term ‘Liturgy’ for churches and Christianity, is used to define and describe a standard set of procedures or practices to be followed in a certain prescribed manner, while conducting public worship or ceremonies, in a church.

Liturgical practice is akin to following prescribed rituals in a certain order, during public worship in a church.

Examples of ‘Liturgy’ include, veneration of relics of saints, visits to sacred shrines, pilgrimages, processions, rules for rosary worship, prescribed ritualistic worship especially during important observances of the Christian faith such as birth and death of Christ Etc , including ceremonial processions.

The priests accuse Andrews Thazhath, of misleading the Vatican against their petition in a long-standing liturgical dispute. They have been opposing the imposition of a liturgical pattern that requires priests to face the altar of worship with their backs to the congregation (where worshippers are seated) during the Eucharistic prayers. ‘Eucharistic’ refers to Christian prayer rituals and ceremonies, commemorating Christ’s Last Supper, with his didciples, before his arrest by the authorities eventually leading to his death.

When Andrews ordered priests to conduct the church ceremonies in the Vatican approved manner, most publicly defied him and continue to conduct church ceremonies the traditional way, by facing the people.

The Vatican had appointed Archbishop Andrews Thazhath on July 30 with a mandate to settle the dispute between the traditionally conducted ceremony and what is now being prescribed by Papal authority.

The Archbishop, in a video message, said he was merely following instructions from the Vatican.
The defiant Kerala church group said they would not report to the Vatican appointee or obey his instructions with regards to church traditions and customs.

The priests in a resolution said that “the administrator, Andrews Thazhath or his acolytes ( asisstants or followers ) would not be invited to any Church-run institutions.” An expert in Church Canon law, who did not want to be named, said the development should be seen as “a very serious move” and may amount to defying the Supreme authority of the Pope.

“Canon” law refers to the laws governing the affairs of a Christian Church, the law created or recognized by papal authority in the Roman Catholic Church.

The Syro-Malabar Catholic Church is an Eastern Catholic church based in Kerala, India. It is an autonomous church in full communion with the pope and the worldwide Catholic Church, with self-governance under the Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches (CCEO). The Church is headed by the Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar, currently George Alencherry. It was supposedly founded in 52 ACE on present day Kerala’s Malabar Coast, reportedly by one of Christ’s disciples, Thomas the Apostle. It is reportedly one of the oldest church denominations in India and Asia. It is headquartered in Mount Saint Thomas, Kakkanad, Kochi, Kerala.

When EVR Fell At The Feet Of Jinnah And But Got Snubbed In Return

E.V. Ramasamy Naicker (hailed as ‘Periyar’ by his followers) was someone who opposed the very idea of India and was dead against the Indian National Congress and Mahatma Gandhi.

He had called for a Dravidistan along the lines of Pakistan and also tried to collude with Muhammad Ali Jinnah for the same.

EVR had met Jinnah four times – once at Bombay, twice at Madras and once at Delhi.

EVR’s Demand For Dravida Nadu

EVR with his anti-Hindu tirade was able to closely move with Muslim leaders which increased considerably during 1930-40.

When the third Majilissul Ulema Conference was held in Erode, Islamist leaders like  Maulana Mohammed Ali, Maulana Shaukat Ali (aka the Ali Brothers of Khilafat Movement), Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad, Hakim Hajmal Khan, Chuadhrikali Kussaman reportedly stayed at EVR’s house.

In December 1938, EVR made the demand for a separate Dravida Nadu in his presidential address at the 14th Confederation of S.I.L.F. He met Sir Stafford Cripps and put forward the demand of Dravidanad in 1939.

Jinnah declared that the Muslims should observe December 22, 1939 as “Day of Deliverance” to mark the cessation of Congress Governments, which was supported by EVR who called upon his party cadres to mark the Day of Deliverance on a “grand scale” to rid the country of the “menace of the Congress”.

A separatist conference was held in June 1940 at Kanchipuram when EVR released the map of the proposed Dravida Nadu which comprised of the Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada areas.

A meeting of EVR, Ambedkar and Jinnah took place on January 8, 1940 in which the leaders had apparently discussed about humiliating Congress and Congress leaders by urging Muslims, Scheduled Caste and non-Brahmins to leave Congress and join non-Congress parties. All of the agreed to create more problems for Congress while EVR extended his full support to Jinnah for the Muslim cause.

On March 25, 1940 at Lahore session of Muslim League, Jinnah gave a clarion call for a separate Pakistan and and within seven months, on 24 August 1940, the EVR at the Tiruvarur Provincial Conference called for a separate Dravida Nadu.

EVR and Jinnah met in Madras atleast twice (once during the Madras session of the Muslim League in April 1941) and discussed about Dravidastan and Pakistan. It is said that Mohammed Ismail, the convenor of Muslim League in Madras had arranged for the meeting between Jinnah and EVR.

EVR supported Jinnah’s demand for a separate Pakistan, salivating for support from him in return. However, Jinnah saw him as a threat to his own plans and showed EVR the finger.

How Jinnah Treated EVR

Initially, Jinnah had extended his sympathies to EVR’s cause. In fact, when he had come to attend the 1941 Madras session of Muslim Leage Jinnah propounded three nations – Hindustan, Pakistan and Dravidastan for Hindus, Muslims and Dravidians respectively.

However, Jinnah had to separate himself from the separatist movement of Dravidians because of pressure from Ulema as according to them, anybody who was not a Muslim was a kafir, thereby watering down the cause of a Muslim nation.

From then on, Jinnah’s reply to EVR indicates a luke warm reaction and lack of sufficient interest in the objectives of EVR’s Dravidian Movement.

On 9 August 1944, EVR wrote to Jinnah to take up the issue of Dravidastan along with Pakistan.

In his letter to Jinnah, EVR wrote “My dear Jinnah, I have been watching carefully the proceedings of Mr Rajagopalacghariar’s formula towards solving the dead-lock and your desire to receive Mr Gandhi at your residence in Bombay on your return which will probably be about the middle of August. It is welcomed in political circles. Though I have no full hope, there are signs of change as our opponents have come forward to settle the Hindu-Muslim questions, especially in relation to Cripp’s offer.

He said that “Congressites are experts in twisting words” and that “they can say anything and give meaning in whatever manner they think”.

Kindly excuse me for reminding you about our discussions relating to Pakistan and Dravidasthan while we were at Madras and Delhi and your assurance that you would plead for both as one. Here in South India, I considered the questions as one and done my best to solve the problem as far as possible.“, EVR prostratingly wrote to Jinnah.

Replying to this letter on 17 August 1944, Jinnah scathingly wrote to EVR calling him “undecisive”.

I have always had much sympathy or the people of Madras 90 percent of whom are Non-Brahmins, and if they desire to establish their Dravidasthan it is entirely for your people to decide on this matter. I can say no more, and I cannot speak on your behalf.“, he said.

I have made the position clear to you and your colleagues when I was in Madras more than once, but hitherto I have noticed that in your activities you have been undecisive. If the people of your province really desire Dravidasthan, then it is for them to assert themselves.“, Jinnah replied to EVR.

The Takeaway From The Episode

The letter is reflective of the personalities of the two people, their extent of inclusiveness of the other’s community and their support of each other’s divisive and separatist objectives.

The letter is reflective of Jinnah and the Muslim League’s attitude towards the request of Hindu leaders and Hindus in general. While EVR’s support for Jinnah, the Muslim League and India’s muslims, was straight forward, open, unconditional and unwavering, Jinnah’s support of EVR’s Dravidian Hindu cause was quite the opposite – Jinnah makes it clear that his sole interest is his objective of Muslim welfare and muslim statehood.

Jinnah is blunt and makes it clear that, EVR’s fight (the Dravidian Movement, social equality for the Hindus and a separate Dravidian statehood) is not his fight and that he would not be extending the kind of support that EVR expects from him.

On a lighter vein, one can appreciate Jinnah’s straight forwardness but it is important to note that he prefers to keep the Muslim cause separate from the Hindu cause, in spite of EVR’s unconditional, inclusive support for the Muslim cause. Jinnah keeps his Muslim cause separate even though EVR’s Dravidian statehood cause and the equal opportunity and social equality Hindu cause, is one that is inclusive of Dravidian Muslims. EVR does not exclude Muslims from his Dravidian causes but Jinnah does not hesitate to promptly disassociate himself from the Dravidian cause which incidentally is non-Muslim.

EVR and his likes, solidly supported the Muslim cause. Jinnah rode on the support of a divided Hindu, “secularist” vote and achieved his objective of a separate Muslim homeland. On the other hand, EVR and his secularist/atheist gang did not garner significant support from the Muslims, did not accomplish their objectives and continue to struggle with meeting their goals, to this day.

Jinnah as well as the British had identified an opportunity in the consistent pattern of a lack of unity among the Hindu communities and took advantage of it, in every possible manner. They rode on the back of misguided or supposedly “aggrieved” Hindus, accomplished their goals and secured significant wins at the expense of the larger Hindu community.

E.V Ramaswamy’s obsession with dividing the Hindu community across caste lines, rather than staying united while addressing social injustices within the community had worked to the advantage of non-Hindu leaders and their communities.
