490 acres of Temple land encroached; Notice sent to encroachers on HC order

A recent report has stated that 490 acres of land, belonging to the Vennaimalai Murugan temple is Karur has been encroached. The Vennaimalai temple is situated on the way from Karur to Salem at a distance of 5 Kms.

The temple has shrines of Idumban, Vinayagar and Malaikaavalar. Avvaiyaar  has sung the literary history and greatness of this temple in Moovaramaanai. The property of this famous temple has been in the hands of encroachers for quite a few years now.

Social activists have revealed that 490 acres of land belonging to the temple have been encroached. Quite a few complaints have been issued with the HR&CE department with regard to this issue. The HR&CE have issued notices to 37 people related to the encroachment of the temple land.

1n 2018, Radhakrishnan, the founder of the Board of Trustees, filed a case in the Madurai High Court alleging that 497 acres of land owned by the Vennaimalai Murugan temple had been occupied for a number of agricultural practices and by buildings. The court subsequently ordered the district administration to survey the occupied lands and file a report.

As a result of the step take, 73 acres of land worth ₹1000 crores, identified as encroached, were reclaimed. Now, the HR&CE has sent notices to the encroachers to reclaim the remaining 490 acres of encroached land. The encroachers have been asked to vacate the land by January 12th. Police action will be taken against those who violate this notice.
