20 DMK cadres booked for assaulting police officer in Krishnagiri district

Police have registered a case against 20 DMK cadres and arrested one, for assaulting a Sub-Inspector of Police near Singarapet.

Sub Inspector Karthikeyan, Chief Constable Raja, PC Pushparaj, and Pachaiyappan arrived at the scene after receiving a complaint that some group of people were involved in a dispute in Kottukkaranpatti village in Uthangarai circle of Krishnagiri district.

The group had gathered near one Natarajan’s home. When police ordered them to disperse, a DMK functionary named Karpurasundara Pandian questioned whether section 144 was in force.

This triggered an argument between the police and the group headed by DMK functionary Karpurasundara Pandian.

Enraged, Karpurasundara Pandian, DMK deputy organizer of the party’s youth wing and union committee member Kumaresan, along with Karpurasundara Pandian’s nephew Mohan and some others attacked SI Karthikeyan. The SI sustained injuries in his cheek, ear, neck, and chest. The group snatched the cell phone from the police who tried to record the incident and chased the police away.

Upon coming to know of the incident, additional forces were sent to the scene. The group fled with the police’s cellphone upon seeing them. The injured SI was rushed to Uthangarai Government Hospital for treatment.

After receiving a complaint from the victim SI Karthikeyan, Inspector Ravichandran filed a case under five sections of IPC against 20 DMK members, including Karpurasundara Pandian, Mohan, and Kumaresan.

Meanwhile, the police arrested Karpurasundara Pandian in this case last evening.
