Villagers Near Sivaganga Request TN Govt To Renovate Ancient Dilapidated Perumal Temple

Devotees and local residents of Singampunari have requested the Tamil Nadu government to renovate the 500-year-old Yoga Narasingha Perumal temple, which is on the verge of collapsing.

The Singampunari area of Sivaganga district is home to many ancient temples, including Kunrakkudi Devasthanam, Sivagangai Devasthanam, HR&CE temples, and village temples, all of which are well-known in the town. There is an ancient Yoganarasingha Perumal temple in SV Mangalam, also known as Mattiyur, that is said to have been built more than 500 years ago.

It is said that 500 years ago there was a village on either side of Paalaru River; Matiyur in the North and Aruviyur in the South. The villages of Matiyur and Aruviyur were ravaged by war by the then-kings, and anecdotal evidence suggests that great temples were destroyed and looted.

The present Yoganarasingha Perumal temple, which is the only Perumal temple in Matiyur, is located in the Dindigul-Tirupattur road. Many devotees from the surrounding villages come here for darshan. This well-known temple has become dilapidated due to a lack of maintenance.

The pillar of the hall in front of the temple is also on the verge of collapsing. It has caused hardship for devotees as it can collapse at any time during the rainy season. Therefore, devotees have demanded Tamil Nadu government and HR&CE department to repair this ancient temple.
