During its regime, the DMK faced criticism for allegedly using police complaints, defamation cases and criminal proceedings to target political critics, journalists and social media commentators. Now, just weeks after assuming power, Vijay’s TVK is facing similar accusations as Youtuber Maridhas was arrested today.
YouTuber Maridhas was reportedly arrested at his residence in Madurai by the Chennai Cyber Crime Police on Monday (8 June 2026) morning and is being brought to Chennai for further investigation.

According to reports, a team of more than 10 police personnel arrived at Maridhas’ residence in the early hours of the morning and conducted a search before taking him into custody. The operation was reportedly carried out by officers attached to the Chennai Cyber Crime wing.
The arrest comes amid a series of complaints filed by members of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Complainants alleged that Maridhas had uploaded videos and images containing defamatory content against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, TVK ministers, MLAs and party functionaries. The complaints further alleged that some of the material circulated by him involved AI-generated images and false accusations.
Police officials reportedly searched electronic devices and other materials at the residence before taking Maridhas into custody. Sources indicated that he was immediately transported to Chennai following the arrest.
Reports also stated that TVK supporters began gathering near Maridhas’ residence after news of the arrest emerged. However, police had already removed him from the location before a larger crowd could assemble.
When contacted, Cyber Crime officials reportedly confirmed only that further questioning would be conducted in Chennai. No detailed statement regarding the specific charges or sections invoked had been officially released at the time of reporting.
The arrest has generated considerable attention on social media and within political circles, given Maridhas’ prominence as a right-wing commentator and his recent videos targeting Chief Minister Vijay and TVK leaders.
