Shocking allegations have emerged that Balamurugan and Jayapal, functionaries of the Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), took a woman from the Srivaikuntam area of Thoothukudi district under the pretext of securing her a job, drugged her in a car, and subjected her to gang rape at a private lodge.
Based on a complaint filed by the victim, the Srivaikuntam All-Women Police arrested Balamurugan – the West District Youth Wing Organizer of TVK and his associate Jayapal and remanded them to custody.
Amidst this, it has emerged that another woman from the TVK Women’s Wing was also a victim of this gang rape. Furthermore, accusations have surfaced claiming that MLA Annai VG Saravanan is the root cause of the entire incident.
The victim stated that she was not the only victim, but she did not bring the other woman into the public eye because that woman fell at her feet, pleading that her life not be ruined. Additionally, a sensational allegation has been made that MLA Saravanan was involved in the sale of illegal lottery tickets.
Meanwhile, as various political parties demanded justice, former Minister Geetha Jeevan met the woman to offer support. The victim subsequently met the press on May 5th. Speaking tearfully, she recounted that she had been a fan of actor Vijay since 1997. She stated that for two years, she had been working alongside MLA Saravanan, and alleged that it was through this association that she met the man who—despite addressing her as “Akka”—gang-raped her.
She further alleged that seven months ago, a man named Bala promised her a commission for facilitating sales for the lottery business run by MLA Saravanan. She said she refused, knowing lotteries are illegal in Tamil Nadu, and stopped communicating with him.
According to the victim, seven months later, she saw Bala again during election duty. She said he told her he had arranged a job for her through Saravanan’s lottery shop, acknowledging her debt. She stated that he invited her to travel to Ramanathapuram to meet an agent. Trusting him, she said, she got into his car. During the journey, she alleged, they spiked her soft drink, after which she lost consciousness. She tearfully recounted that he and another man then sexually assaulted her.
The victim said that when she confronted them, they told her that Saravanan had instructed them to bring her. She claimed they threatened to kill her child if she spoke about the incident. Three days later, she said she went directly to MLA Saravanan and told him what had happened. According to the victim, Saravanan told her over the phone not to make a big issue out of it, suggesting that he could speak to ‘Bussy Anna,’ who would speak to ‘Vijay Anna’ to arrange a job and resolve the matter.
The victim detailed that she had been a passionate fan of Thalapathy since 1997 and had worked with the fan club from 2014. She said that after the election, Bala called her on May 3rd and said he was getting her a commission from Saravanan’s lottery. She stated that she asked Saravanan himself, who reportedly replied, “Yes akka, it’s Annan’s thing.” She said she was picked up in a white car, and after drinking several juices given by Bala, she felt dizzy and eventually lost consciousness. She claimed that at a lodge in Ramanathapuram, Bala assaulted her. When she woke up shouting, he threatened her and told her to seek justice from Saravanan.
She stated that when she later confronted Saravanan, he advised her not to blow it up and promised to arrange a job through intermediaries. She also alleged that Bala and another man, Jey, threatened to harm her child. She said that since the local police did not act on her previous complaints, she approached the Chief Minister’s Special Cell, which took action.
The victim alleged that the same people had taken money from other women, and because she refused to cooperate, they targeted her out of anger. She asserted that another girl was also affected, but she did not expose her to protect her marriage. She demanded severe punishment for Bala and noted that no support had come from TVK party headquarters. She requested the Chief Minister to take legal action and give her an opportunity to meet him.
She stated that Saravanan was the messenger for the entire incident and requested the police to conduct an inquiry into him as well, noting that both accused were arrested at Saravanan’s bungalow in Kerala. She alleged that Saravanan runs a lottery business and provided shelter to the culprits.
When asked about party support, she said no MLA or minister from TVK had contacted her. She demanded that Chief Minister Vijay address the atrocity as an elder brother and inflict punishment similar to that portrayed in his film Theri. She stated that if anything happens to her, Bala, Jai, and MLA Saravanan would be responsible. She also requested protection for herself and her children, citing threats.
The fact that allegations have now arisen against MLA Annai VG Saravanan—who had previously announced the removal of Balamurugan and Jayapal from party posts following sexual harassment complaints—has caused a major stir.
