An 11-year-old boy died following a routine throat surgery at a government hospital in Tiruppur district, with his family alleging medical negligence and demanding an inquiry into the circumstances leading to his death. This comes just as Joseph Vijay TVK government has rolled out the gold ringh scheme.

The deceased, identified as Prashanth, had reportedly been suffering from stomach pain and poor appetite for the past two weeks. According to his family, they took him to the Government Hospital at Vellampalayam for treatment, where doctors informed them that a growth in his throat was causing the problem.

The family alleged that doctors assured them the condition was minor and that surgically removing the growth would permanently resolve the issue. Based on this assurance, the boy was admitted to the hospital on Sunday, and the surgery was scheduled for Monday.

According to the boy’s father, the family was informed after the procedure began that Prashanth had suffered a cardiac arrest during surgery.

“They told us it was a simple procedure and that he would recover completely after the surgery. We admitted him trusting the doctors. But during the operation, they suddenly said he had suffered a heart attack. My son was only 11 years old. I still cannot believe he is gone,” the grieving father said.

He added that the family had opted for treatment at the nearby government hospital instead of travelling to Tiruppur Government Medical College Hospital because they were assured the surgery was routine.

A family friend, Shaktivel, said that after the cardiac arrest, doctors advised that the child be shifted to another hospital. However, instead of immediately transferring him to a government tertiary care facility, the anaesthetist and ENT surgeon allegedly arranged for him to be taken by ambulance to a private hospital.

According to him, the child remained at the private hospital for nearly three hours before doctors there advised that he be shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Tiruppur. He was subsequently transported by ambulance to the government hospital, where he died approximately two hours after admission.

The family has alleged that they were informed about the boy’s deteriorating condition only after a significant delay and questioned the sequence of medical decisions following the surgery.

They have demanded a thorough investigation into the incident to determine whether there was any lapse in treatment or delay in providing emergency care.

Hospital authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the allegations.
