The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) is reportedly weighing a strategy to strengthen its presence in southern Tamil Nadu by targeting Nadar community votes, according to a report published by Junior Vikatan.
The report also claimed that the party is considering announcing that there would be no restriction on toddy tapping, as part of its efforts to consolidate support in the southern districts.
The discussion reportedly comes against the backdrop of questions over the timing of the next local body elections in Tamil Nadu.
According to the report, the TVK leadership is currently not planning to hold local body elections immediately. Instead, it is reportedly considering running local administration through officials after dissolving elected local bodies.
The party is said to be waiting for the outcome of upcoming by-elections to assess the public mood before deciding when to conduct the local body polls.
The report further claimed that the government is preparing to remove Tamil Nadu State Election Commissioner Jothi Nirmalasamy from her post before proceeding with the election process.

Focus on Southern Districts
The political column said the TVK leadership believes the party is relatively weak in the southern districts. Against this backdrop, it reportedly wants to target Nadar community votes.
As part of this strategy, the leadership is said to be discussing whether to announce that there would be no ban on toddy tapping.
The claim comes as political parties in Tamil Nadu continue to assess caste and regional voting patterns ahead of the electoral cycle.
