Is Kamal Waiting To Ally With The DMK? Here Are Some Indications

In January 2024,Chief Minister MK Stalin unveiled ‘Maha Kavithai,’ a composition by Dravidianist poet and #MeToo accused Vairamuthu. Sharing the stage with them was MNM Chief Kamal Haasan.

In December 2023, Kamal Haasan blamed the heavy rains for the deluge that the city was grappling with. Kamal Haasan posted on his X handle in a manner that seemed to blame the cyclone for the entire problem while turning a blind eye to the mismanagement, poor or absence of preparedness from the establishment.

He later met with the press today making even more controversial and insensitive statements. He went to the extent of saying that despite the best efforts of the government, the city had faced floods. As the founder of a party that claimed to do clean politics, Kamal Haasan has been repeatedly found to be subservient to the DMK government. He also went on to blame the people for purchasing houses in low-lying areas.

In September 2023, when the eradicate Sanatana Dharma remarks were taking the internet by storm, Kamal refrained from condemning DMK Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin for his hate speech against the Hindu religion and said that the man is entitled to his views. In a social media post, Kamal Haasan said “The hallmark of a true democracy is the ability of its citizens to disagree and engage in continued discussion. History has repeatedly taught us that asking the right questions has led to important answers and contributed to our development as a better society.“, added that Udhayanidhi Stalin is entitled to his views on Sanatana and refrained from using the word Dharma along with it, going by the Dravidianist claims of there is no ‘Dharma’ in Sanatana.

In May 2023, the Tamil Nadu Champions Foundation (TNCF) was officially launched, and the Chief Minister’s Trophy 2023 logo, mascot, and theme song were unveiled at The Leela Palace in Chennai. M.K. Stalin, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu (TN), was the chief guest of the event. Udhayanidhi Stalin, TN Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development, also presided. Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was invited as the guest of honor. Praising Udhayanidhi Stalin in this regard, Kamal said on his X handle, “It is a pleasure that the Tamil Nadu government has organized a huge sports competition named “Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Cup – Kalam Namate!” so that people can improve their skills and compete in the field.”

In February 2023, Kamal said that his friendship with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin went beyond politics. Kamal stated that he and Stalin have been friends since the latter was introduced to him as M Karunanidhi’s son. “We may not be close friends, but we have remained friends and demonstrated that our friendship extends beyond politics whenever the opportunity arose,” he stated.

To commemorate Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin’s 70th birthday last year, Kamal opened an exhibition titled “Engal Muthalvar, Engal Perumai” (our chief minister our pride) in Chennai. Kamal recalled how Stalin had progressed from being a DMK cadre to becoming the state’s chief minister. “Despite being by his father’s side his entire life, he had never sought anything for himself. This is history that must be preserved,” Kamal stated.
