PFI Madurai President Arrested By NIA In Pazhani

The NIA apprehended Mohammad Qaiser, the Madurai Regional President of the Popular Front of India, in Pazhani. For the second day, NIA officials are conducting an investigation.

Mohammad Qaiser (50), from Pazhani in Dindigul district, runs a tea shop in the temple town, and is the Madurai regional president of the banned Popular Front of India.

Officers from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested Mohammad Qaiser at a tea shop on Pazhani Gandhi Road around 12 pm on Monday (16 January 2023) and took him to the Pazhani Police Station. A team of 5 NIA officers from Delhi is conducting the investigation.

On September 22, 2022, National Intelligence Agency officials raided more than 100 locations across the country belonging to the SDPI and Popular Front of India.

Raids were carried out in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Delhi, and Rajasthan, and 106 people were apprehended.

The massive raids, dubbed ‘Operation Octopus,’ were carried out at the homes and residences of people suspected of involvement in activities such as funding terrorist groups, organising training camps, and inciting people to join banned movements, as well as the homes and offices of PFI national, state, and local leaders.
