“Periyar Asked Us To Think” Sings TM Krishna, Netizens Dig Out EVR’s Contradictory Statement

TM Krishna released a song today titled “Sindhikka Sonnavar Periyar,” which means “EVR told us to think,” in contrast to what EV Ramasamy Naicker told his Dravidar Kazhagam followers.

Vaikom in the Kottayam district is famous for its past associations with stalwarts of the Indian Freedom Movement and the epochal Satyagraha, which heralded a social revolution by allowing ‘untouchables’ in Indian society public access. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his Tamil Nadu counterpart MK Stalin have agreed to join forces to commemorate the centenary of the Vaikom Satyagraha, a historic agitation that paved the way for the Temple Entry Proclamation in Travancore.

The nonviolent movement that began in March 1924 to demand the right of lower caste members to walk on the roads leading to the Vaikom Temple, which is now located in the district of Kottayam, will celebrate its 100th anniversary next year.

Despite the fact that the social movement was spearheaded by various leaders from the Indian National Congress, particularly George Joseph alias Rosappu Dorai, the Dravidar Kazhagam and other stockists portrayed EV Ramasamy Naicker as the sole protester in the Vaikom Sathyagraha.

While Rosappu Dorai has become an unsung hero, EV Ramasamy Naciker, who has never led a temple entry movement in Tamil Nadu, has been projected as a hero by Dravidar Kazhagam and Stockists who led the temple entry in Travancore, when the true history is otherwise.

In this context, controversial musician TM Krishna has released a song titled “Sindhikka Sonnavar Periyar” to honor EV Ramasamy Naicker and commemorate the centenary of the Vaikom Sathyagraha. However, EV Ramasamy Naicker always wanted his followers not to think and just follow his orders like a military organization.

R Muthukumar, known for writing biographies on EVR, stated in his book Thamizhaga Arasiyal Varalaaru, “Dravidian Kazhagam is like an army; They say it is a union of volunteers bound by leadership. Periyar wanted it that way as well.

He quoted EV Ramasamy Naicker as saying, “Even if those agreeing to my opinions are idiots, let them alone be with me. I don’t want any intellectual to advise me.”

Therefore, TM Krishna’s song titled “Sindhikka Sonnathu Periyar” has been mocked on social media as it contradicts what EV Ramasamy Naicker has told his followers.
