An alleged racket involving the diversion of subsidised urea meant for farmers has come to light in Karur district, with a video claiming that fertiliser is being repacked and transported for industrial use.
The incident was reportedly recorded at Nalloorampatti in Sembianatham panchayat, under Kadavur Union in the Krishnarayapuram Assembly constituency.
The video, released by a person associated with the We The Leaders organisation, shows a large quantity of fertiliser bags reportedly stored inside a shed at the location.
According to the video, the subsidised urea from the central government is reportedly being removed from its original bags and transferred into other sacks before being loaded onto a lorry.
The video specifically points to bags labelled “Technical Grade Urea – For Industrial Use Only.”
It is alleged that urea supplied by the Central government to farmers at subsidised rates is being diverted from the agricultural supply chain and transported for industrial use.
The lorry shown in the video is claimed to have a capacity of around 400 bags when fully loaded.
It is further alleged that a shed has been set up at the location to stockpile the fertiliser before it is transported elsewhere.
Calling for immediate intervention, the person urged the Karur District Collector to investigate the alleged diversion and take action against those responsible.
The video also called for police action to prevent subsidised fertiliser meant for farmers from being illegally diverted.
